SonderMind was a complete waste of time. I paid $183 for a 20-minute session that wasn't worth it, and the billing experience afterward was even worse. I've been contacting them since October trying to resolve an insurance issue, and only now am I being told there's a problem--something no other provider has ever had trouble processing. The communication is terrible, slow, and inconsistent. Instead of proactively helping, they dragged this out for months and then dumped it on me. I declined the rest of the refund because at this point it's not worth the hassle. Between the poor communication, delayed responses, and the overpriced, low-value session, I would not recommend SonderMind to anyone. read more

I have found a great therapist through Sondermind. The client portal is terrible. I can't schedule appointments through my portal, the support team isn't helpful, the app has so many updates it can be hard to navigate, appointment remainder & calendar sync are inconsistent. The billing times and amounts aren't always the same. Curently ive been aggressively emailing Sonderimd to resolve my scheduling issues. Every time I go to schedule a session, it says my providers shcedule is full when in reality it isn't. I also had an appointment get canceled, I went to reschedule through the email I got, and received the same message. This is extremly fustrighting and interrupting continuation of care. I have emailed support@sondermind.com 10+ times, and every time my message gets ignored, an extremely late response, and the person responding doesn't fully understand the depths of this issue. My provider is absloutly wonderful! As of now, my appointments are being scheduled through my provider's portal. read more

Horrible App. I am, after 8+ weeks, STILL WAITING FOR HEADSPACE/SONDERMIND TECH TEAMS TO RESOLVE ISSUES SO I CAN SKED A PROVIDER APPOINTMENT ON MY END. I & my husband have emailed/called/contacted SM for the last 8+ weeks because of relentless tech issues with SonderMind/Headspace. It took you 4 weeks to resolved their iPad issues so I could sign in. Then another 2+ weeks before I could get a provider appointment. The fun didn't stop there! After making an initial appointment, the SonderMind app abruptly cancelled it. We made another and received notifications about rescheduling after that.. ??? On top of that, logging into SonderMind from any device is glitchy; it sometimes takes 2 days to read a message from my provider. Then, SM wouldn't let me schedule another appointment! My provider is terrific! I was able to get a follow up appointment (She found a workaround!) The SM provider, btw, had no info on me, insurance, etc. They're flying blind on their end because no one at SM no ones what they're doing. Still can't make appointments on my end; still takes 1-2 days to get in to read messages from provider; and STILL ,after 8+ weeks, no word from SonderMind on fixing these issues. read more

I have been using Sondermind services since February and was extremely satisfied with the providers until June.In June I was matched with a therapist with whom I had 3 sessions. The therapist was friendly and knowledgeable and I felt we were a good match. Previously, the practitioners I saw filed insurance claims through Medicare , my primary insurance carrier. There has never been a problem. Recently my Visa card was charged for the three sessions in June. After numerous attempts to find out why my claims weren't filed with Medicare I discovered the therapist Sondermind recommended to me was not an approved Medicare provider. Now I am stuck with almost $400 of charges on my Visa bill. Be aware you cannot reach Sondermind by phone if you have a billing issue. I was clearly off my game when I first researched SonderMind after the VA referral. (I am a researcher by training and profession.) There are no about-us or mission statements on your website. I realized just today that SonderMind is simply a brokering site for counselors/therapists that think they can help people, including Veterans. Right now, SonderMind is the "Amazon of mental health care providers"; you can buy whatever you want but there is no guarantee of quality. Our SonderMind couples-counseling provider decided he couldn't be bothered with waiting for us to recover from 4 weeks of Influenza A and pneumonia during mid-January and early February 2025. He "dropped us" even though he knew we were gravely ill, because I sent him a text indicating that we had to cancel a scheduled appointment and explained why. I was extremely disappointed, if not disgusted, by his uncaring decision, to say the least. I guess that level of unprofessionalism is something with which he was and probably still is comfortable. I had no idea Sondermind as a company was a complete scam, and am truly disappointed to discover this. The provider I was matched with canceled on me multiple times. When we finally did meet, she was over 45 minutes late. I was then charged $120 for a 5 minute phone conversation. It was supposed to be $20 with my insurance. So, I reached out to billing and they didn't respond to me for over 2 months. I have attached the response from their customer service team that I received. I have been seeing my therapist for four and a half years. She was not a part of SonderMind until a bit over two years ago. I have not had issues with insurance, or any part of the overall process. Aimee Moore is a VERY good fit for me and I feel very lucky to have her to talk to about issues in my life, relationships etc. She is very down to earth and suggests exercises you can do to work through a problem, or just be there to listen. They make money by disempowering newly licensed therapists and convincing them that they can do better what the therapists can most certainly do themselves, in terms of starting a private practice. It also sounds like the owners are focused more on the bottom line than on what actually matters, like the therapeutic alliance and fair and transparent billing practices. Not a fan, I would go elsewhere for therapy or convince your therapist to get an office space on their own. read more

This company quite frankly doesn't even deserve one star. I had care from 3 different therapists last year and they all seemed to be unfit to provide therapy services. It felt like more of a space for me to vent and then have them ask me if I felt "better"... There was not one therapist who asked me to dig deeper into things, and one even cared more about the drama between my family members than actually helping me cope with that drama. My last therapy session was in early November of 2024, and there were no outstanding balances on my account from any session, as the money got pulled from my bank account a few days after each session. These therapists were also ALL within network for my insurance. in April of 2025 I get emailed saying I am going to be charged over $500.00 for the total of the sessions because "something happened" with my insurance. I contacted my insurance and they assured me that all therapists I had were in network, and that everything seemed fine on their end. I"ve been trying since APRIL to get these charges removed as I've already paid my dues, and NOT ONE representative has been able to help me. My issue has been getting "escalated" for the last 3 months and I have not received ONE single email back, until yesterday when the payment they were charging me for was missed. Suddenly I got an email back within 2 hours, and still, they said nothing about handling my issue further. Also, when your issue is "escalated" it takes 14 business days to get handled, but regular emails get handled within 8 days. HUH???? I have threatened to take legal action, and I absolutely will be doing so if this company can't get their shit together and resolve my issue soon. If you are thinking of joining Sondermind, don't. It's a waste of money, time, energy, and effort. They care more about your dollars than actually providing you with the mental care that you may need. I have had similar issues with them around billing.Please, as I did , submit a complaint to State Attorneys office, Phil Weiser . What Sondermind does is insurance fraud. They need to be shut down. The app is terrible. It won't let me schedule appointments, see messages, or really do anything it is supposed to do. While the therapists are awesome, the app itself is, at best, worthless, resembling something I would fail a computer science undergraduate for submitting in a web development course. For the front-end developers at Sondermind, I can only say that you have crafted a tool so abysmal in its performance that I intend to use it as a demonstration of what NOT to do when creating a web application, and may you step upon many Legos in the dead of night when you least expect it. read more

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. They make it easy to start, but hard to stop. They don't communicate well with you at all - especially when it comes to billing. It's a hassle to reach anyone in customer support - you have to write an email and they don't get back to you for weeks. They charged me three times in one day, for sessions that were months ago, and it really put me in a bad spot with a bill I had coming out. I also thought my insurance was accepted and being used, until I found out that it was not. No one communicated this with me, of course, and I would have gone with another company that actually accepted my Insurance had I known this in the beginning. I was constantly bombarded with messages and emails about perfect matches with therapist and every time go to check they were just via video and not in person. I called in to customer service multiple times to reiterate that in person therapy is the only type of counseling I am looking for and multiple times they said they would address it. After a little over a month, they finally addressed it and I got a list of therapist in my area that do in person therapy. I found one that matched what I was looking for and sent her a message about me what I was looking for and the days and time of day that would work for me. The next day I recieve emails and messages that I have a scheduled appointment with some other therapist that I did not click on because she was not a good match. As well as the time of day that they scheduled without talking to me was during the time of day I would not be available. Then I was emailed and texted that the appointment was now canceled by someone again other than me. When I went on my account, none of the in person therapist that I had a list of were available to click on now, and apparently the therapist that I had found to be a good match was not listed anymore and my message that was sent out was erased in the system. and also some of these constant text messages and emails that came multiple times throughout every day. We're constantly reminding me that this was my last reminder to act before my referral would be cancelled and I would receive that message every day. At this point, I told them to cancel my referral as my frustration and anger with Sonderman would ruin any potential relationship with a therapist from their service. and looking at the reviews of this establishment, kind of reassured me that my decision to just drop trying to get help through sondermind was a good decision for my mental health. And of course, this is the establishment that the VA sends me to. Same gross standards or lack there of. read more

Therapist was great but SonderMind is horrible. I had sessions for over a year before I started getting emails about billing issues and more than two years later am still dealing with it. I think if you have the most basic simple insurance this might work but anything but probably avoid. When you do have a billing issue they seem like they don't communicate very well to resolve and things get prolonged unnecessarily. I've sent and responded with detail, bills, etc. and no one seems to get back to me on my questions they just respond months later with an automated message about something else. read more

I could give negative 800 stars I would. The care I received was fine. Their billing practices are predatory and criminal. I have been triple and quadruple billed many times. I had to do all the leg work of disputing the charges. They blame it all on a system glitch in early 2024 so in August I was billed $500 all at once. then $800. then $300 the next week. EVEN IF THOSE CHARGES ARE VALID you have to give people time to prepare for that kind of unplanned expense. I had to fight tooth and nail to get them to refund the multiple billings (had to quit therapy long before they refunded). Then it happened AGAIN. multiple $300 charges. Sondermind is an absolute joke. My claims were not submitted through my insurance they just billed me the entire amount for my sessions. You call their number and are NEVER able to speak to a human in their billing department. "That's not how it works." "There is no one for you to speak to." "I can submit a request for them to schedule a call with you." It may take them 8 business days to contact you. I have submitted 2 separate tickets in order to get this billing issue resolved. This has been going on for over 2 months now. Instead of refunding me the money I have been over charged for they just continue to automatically withdraw money from my account. This is unacceptable. Letter Submitted to Sondermind: Supervisor/Manager at Sondermind Subject: Complaint Regarding Breach of Confidentiality and Unprofessional Conduct by therapist CANDACE ROMERO, Texas. To whom it may concern, I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to bring a serious matter to your attention concerning the conduct of one of your therapists. I am a patient at Sondermind Therapy and recently received my first therapy session from this therapist. In the course of our first session, I briefly explained to the therapist I had been a childhood victim of abuse by the hand of a family member some 40+ years ago. For the sake of explanation, this person has not been a part of my life for over 35 years, and neither have I seen or spoken with them in all these years. I know nothing about this person's life, or even if they're dead or alive. In fact, I only learned of this abuse 10 years ago when I began to have memories and flashbacks and then confided in my sister who shared she had the same experience. I have confided in many therapists over the years, and all of them have assured me there was absolutely no reason to report these past events unless I knew a child was in imminent danger or if I was still in imminent danger, which I am not. I am deeply disturbed by the recent actions of the therapist and her complete ignorance of reporting and confidentiality laws for her profession, and am now taking necessary action to seek your intervention. On Wednesday, July 27, 2023, during one my therapy session with the therapist, she breached confidentiality by reporting sexual abuse that occurred 40 years ago to the police without seeking my consent or permission. As a result of her actions, the police showed up at my home, causing immense stress and re-traumatization for me and my children, who were present at the time, and who were startled and distressed by the sudden and unexpected visit from the authorities. My children were previously unaware of my past trauma, but because the police visited my home and asked specific questions, I was obligated to tell them about my past...something I was not planning to do in that manner. Needless to say, they were tremendously shaken and now have to undergo counseling themselves to process the trauma it caused. The breach of confidentiality by the therapist has left me feeling violated, betrayed, and unable to trust the therapeutic process. Her actions have not only negatively impacted my mental well-being (I can't sleep, eat, and am once again having flashbacks and nightmares of the abuse and panic attacks), but also disrupted the sense of security and privacy within my family. ***Sondermind had someone call me and they said it is "never Sondermind's intention to cause any type of harm" and "We are sorry that you are upset by the situation" I was never refunded for the appointment and was told I was denied the refund because my appointment was 'medically necessary' Please, avoid this company at all costs. read more

Love my therapist but can't stand Sondermind. Customer service waits are unbearably long and reps seem to have no idea what is going on. Billing is behind--sometimes, they don't bill me for a month; other times, they bill me 3x in the same day for sessions 2+ months ago. I had to call them when I hit my deductible so they would stop charging me for sessions that were covered. I also requested a psychiatrist and the first time I completed the form, nothing happened. I had to do it a second time, only to get 2 recommendations for nurse practitioners. They also raised prices without sending out any updates about the increase. What a mess. read more

Their quality of care is very good. Their back office is completely incompetent. At the start of 2024 they charged a credit card on file for multiple sessions all at once without running insurance. This year they have already treated 2 more as self pay. We have confirmed that the correct insurance was on file the entire time. They absolutely will not answer their phone. On multiple occasions we have stayed on hold waiting as it tells us less & less callers are in front of us until finally it just disconnects. They have an option to be called back when your turn comes up. We have selected it on multiple occasions. None of those times has the phone system called us back. In a few business days they do respond to emails. But sometimes you just want to talk to someone. I've been told to wait 30-45 days for the billing department to run insurance & try again on each of 2 cases I sent them via email. So here we wait. Out the 100s of dollars just hoping they get around to fixing it. read more

On the rare occasion they do answer, they aren't willing to help in any way and will charge whatever they feel you owe without any required authorization. Whole Sondermind does have some very good therapists, and their customer service reps, are very polite, if you could ever get in touch with them, the overall quality of support to both clients as well as therapists has been declining over the past year and a half. It does that make sense. They keep more money than any of the other therapy billing services, and they have more people working for them than any of the other services I know of. They are keeping too big of a cut of the hard work that the therapists are putting into their clients And they're producing inferior support and quality of products. read more

Used services and was late to virtual appointment. Still logged in and therapist wasn't there. Was charged co pay (which should be illegal since I didn't receive service and it isn't being filed against insurance) as well as an $85 charge when I was there. Reported to BBB. Do NOT USE. GO IN PERSON TO SOMEONE AND NOT THESE CROOKS. If you are in person and are late you get seen. Here they take copays without filing and charge you additional fees against your card without knowledge. There are plenty of places out there. Do not use this one. I will be following up with insurance and BBB to co pay charges since there was no appointment due to them not being there.
