Nice wine sampling I just drop in on while making a visit to this area. The customer service was good. There was a sommelier introducing us to some reds and whites. Although I am a lover of reds I do still favor a good white one. I do plan to visit again to pick up the one that I found to taste delicious and would go so good with some salmon or fresh sushi. A woman who I would think was the owner told me that they post a selection on fine wines on their Instagram so I will be sure to follow and explore. The BEST service you will ever receive at a wine shop. Every employee genuinely wants to help you choose a wine you will enjoy and are incredibly knowledgeable. Plus, I went there telling them I was moving and they spent an extraordinary amount of time not only gathering boxes for me (A LOT!), but also taking the time to pack them together with a string for easy carrying. This place is not only ideal for their vast eclectic selection of wines ranging from perfectly affordable to higher end, but their employees are incredible. I take a mile walk (despite much closer wine stores) to come here to get my wines! Worth it, genuinely cannot say enough good things about this spot. read more

This is my favorite wine shop in Harlem. Conveniently located right off the B/C subway, they carry wines from all over the world and are very well organized with the inventory. They also give descriptions of each wine next to the bottles. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and I love the tastings they do. I did one with Eric on wines from Africa I would of never tried before the tasting. I've also independently found some of my favorite forever wines right from this little shop. Prices vary so there is a wine here for all price points. Make sure to make an account with them, they will keep track of the wines you buy In case you forget the names of your favorites. read more

The winery is located next to the 116 St stop on the B/C lines. I found the bottle, and I was out the door within three minutes. The man that helped me was very kind and gave me a Cabernet suggestion based on both what was popular and my taste. He offered help without being too overbearing- which is a hard line to tow. When I lived in Harlem this was my go to place. Interesting wines, well-curated, and very fairly priced. I moved away and hadn't been back in in years until today. Could it be that they're even better? Yes. Do they have rare grapes you've never heard of? Have you ever heard of, say, a Getariako Txakolina? Something about the water--or the wine--that the staff in the store drink that makes each and every one of them rude, pretentious, negative, and just generally people you'd rather not do any business with. Just look at the reviews in this forum: there's so many that say the same thing. That the manager has an attitude, that he's rude that he's mean that he's negative etc. It's interesting and curious how these people don't get the message and try to improve things. Perhaps a personality is not something you can change, perhaps the owner hires like-minded people, but I'm not sure. All I know, is that every time I been in there in the past-- and that's been probably about 10 times over the several years I've lived the neighborhood--I've always felt it was a negative experience. I don't go there anymore. Wine is supposed to make you happy and enhance your life, and I don't want the purchasing of it bringing me down. read more

It's a really nice store however, I'm going to have to agree with the other reviewers saying that the customer service seems a bit awkward. I didn't get a particularly friendly vibe at all on a Friday evening after a pretty rough trip from Costco/Target across town. Carrying around a case of gatorade and 2 watermelons is no fun. I came in to pick up some liquor on the way home (we live by Port Authority where there isn't a shortage of liquor stores). I love how they've set out bottles of wine for customers to sample. The sign said "please help yourself (1 oz pours)" and as I'm pouring myself a tiny sample (think measuring cup size from cough syrup) the guy standing there looks at the sign and then comments to another customer "oh I just wanted to make sure I had the right sign out". That seemed like a snarky remark. I understand it's a tough to run a business, but if you're grumpy your customers can sense it. Drink a glass of wine or two and chill out. read more

I really love this wine shop. Very easy to get to no matter where you live on the Upper West Side or Harlem, as it is located right off of the 116th Street train stop. And the shop keepers are very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. They are really willing to work with you to find something that you will like. They also keep records of everything that you buy...that way, if you really enjoy something but can't remember the name of it...they can just pull it right up in there computer! I love that. They also have tastings every Friday evening. A great way to unwind after a long week, stop by here with your significant other to taste some new wines and then take home a nice treat. A small, but well curated selection is a big draw here, as is the beautiful space. The employees are very knowledgeable about their craft and make good suggestions. Be prepared to pay a little more than you would at a typical neighborhood wine store, you're paying for the curation and the ambiance as well as the quality of the product you'll receive. I'd love to come back for one of their tastings on Friday or Saturday night. They do have a very small selection of spirits in the front and some glassware, but it's very marked-up. This is the first time I'm writing a review, and unfortunately it's a bad one. We went to this store a few days ago to purchase a bottle of Malbec and took a $20 bottle of wine recommended by one of the nice employees. When we got home, I started opening the bottle and the bottle was corked, and the cork began deteriorating as I turned the corkscrew, so I stopped. Smelled the wine that was protruding out of the bottle, which smelled putrid, so we decided we would return and exchange it. When my husband went back to the store he was met my a very condescending person who claimed to be the owner named Eric White, who not only refused to exchange the bottle, but also proceeded to open and drink out of it and then gave it back to my husband to take home. When I called this person on the phone to explain that I believe it's a spoiled bottle and would like him to exchange it, he began to give me his school lesson on wine, and to tell me why it's ok for him to not only taste the bottle, but that he doesn't believe it's spoiled so he won't take it back. To make matters worse, Eric says he opened another one to see if it was in fact spoiled... why would you be ok with opening another bottle for your own sake but not ok with exchanging one for a customer? We are a family that purchased 2-3 bottles of wine per week... If this bottle were purchased at a restaurant, it would have been immediately replaced if these things occurred. Very bad business and customer service. My husband left the bottle in the store and we will never shop there again. I do hope to reach the owner as well to let him know how horribly his establishment is being managed. Buyer beware of this place. read more

I love this little wine shop right outside the train station on 1/16 it's beautifully lit the workers are very nice and pleasant. Everything is neatly organized and easy to find. They also keep a few bottles on chilled and offer a cold wine at the register. I love the convenience of keeping my name and a card on file to make check out easier. I have no desire to go anywhere else the wine is delicious and always available. This establishment feels like home. And it will to you too. I didn't consider myself much of a wine person a few years ago and came here to discover something I may like. I've been a loyal customer for almost 3 years, even getting my old office to consistently order from you for our weekly happy hours in an effort to support local businesses. You, specifically your manager, always exuded an air of pretension and rudeness I never cared for. Your saving grace has been one guy who works there who has always been kind, friendly, and helpful. Unfortunately, he wasn't there today. Manager: "That's $15." Me: "I'm sorry. I thought this bottle was $12." Manager: "Well you've got tax, don't you?" He then proceeded to lecture me on the tax rate and how the United States works. Your condescension blew me away, right out of your shop, before I got the chance to give my lesson to you. 8.875% of $11.95, good sir, is $1.05 not $3.05 Please take the $2 you overcharged me and put it toward some lessons in manners. I stopped by The Winery on a Saturday afternoon a few weeks ago, expecting to purchase a couple of bottles to bring to a dinner party that evening. To say that the woman sitting behind the register was rude would be a understatement. She didn't greet me or ask if I needed help. She didn't even look up from her text message conversation when I walked in. Her body language was hostile (yes, I know that is a very strong word, but it is fitting). Unsurprisingly, I walked out of the store without buying anything. There are very few things I feel more strongly about than supporting local businesses. I live in the neighborhood and, until now, have had nothing but wonderful experiences interacting with local business owners. However, to walk into a store and feel like your mere presence is inconveniencing to the staff is not a great way to make a first impression. The first time I walked in to buy a bottle of wine, I was a little put off by the staff. Three of them were huddled by the cash register talking about spirit animals; crows and ravens in Central Park as I wandered around in a complete haze of confusion. I quickly grabbed a bottle of white and left. I decided to give it another chance, so I went again and again, and again. I haven't seen "spirit animal" woman again, but I have met the owner and other staff members. They're all friendly, very knowlegeable and eager to talk wine, teach wine and learn about wine. I had been to an event and had Polo Roger champagne, never heard of it before. When I went into the store to pick up a bottle of Granacha, I bought a bottle of Mirone $9.99, very well balanced with a hint of dark cherries, I mentioned the champagne to the owner. Next thing I know, he's googling it up and we're chatting away about different champagnes. Now that's service. They have deals on cases of wine, they have boutique wines, some tried and true wines and there's always a tasting going on. If you go to their website, they have a list of wines that they carry. I have been to this store on several occasions and never had an issue. Unfortunately, today will be my last time here. The attitude of the working today was totally not necessary, or warranted. The wine I usually purchase was not in the location it usually was, but there was a post it that said ask the staff. I asked the guy was he was he not getting more (or something to that effect), and he snapped "yeah, that's why the sign said 4". I looked at the sign (post-it) again, and there was a scratch out on it, but not clear. He also gave an arrogant shrug too. Really... I brought three bottles of wine. I wouldn't let his attitude stop me from my purchasing my libations, but I will no longer be a customer. I am all for supporting small businesses, but I will not support an attitude. Because the Winery believes in connecting its customers to the traditional and sustainable family-owned vineyards from around the world, to teach us about the land where the wine came from and the people who made it, one bottle at a time. How does it do that exactly? It delivers wines with rich history, with integrity to its production, and with superb quality as a result of the two - all at astoundingly affordable prices. It's not just another wine shop around the corner. It's a place to find wines with cultural value, and wines that will broaden your sense of what wine means to you. Of course, this magic all happens with the incredibly knowledgeable staff. They really do know every single bottle that they sell in the store and in fact, have visited the growers and their vineyards. They give fantastic recommendations and unlike many other shops' staff, they don't try to trick you into buying a more expensive bottle. As I said, they simply want to connect you to the small family wine estates and to give you exactly what you want in your bottle. As you browse through the selection, you'll notice that some wines' description labels have star stickers next to them. Green sticker means the wine is organic, and red sticker means the winemaker is female. I was really impressed that the staff would be conscious of these issues and help us support winemakers that find difficulty entering the market despite their amazing wines. Look, I'm no wine snob, but within 2 minutes of walking in here, I knew I would be well taken care of. Let's face it, very few of us know enough about wines & sparking wines to make an educated selection beyond whatever the price on the label says. Some people gave bad reviews because they were put off by "attitude". But it sounds like they were only seeing the reflection of the attitude they gave off when they walked in the door. I found both the guys working here to be extremely knowledgeable, cool dudes who were willing to share their knowledge with you - if you were willing to listen. And as someone who can put his own pride on the shelf and admit that I know jack about choosing good wine, that's super-valuable. The reason I'm giving them three stars is because of their pricing. I'd rather make the commute to to the Trader Joe's wine shop and buy wines of the same quality for half the price but as I said it's great if you're in a pinch or want to try out something new.
