I am vegetarian and so ordered the "coach house curry" with vegetables which was an astonishing €20.95. This curry comprised of exactly the same veg as my mum had on her plate mixed in what tasted like instant powder curry sauce on top of some rice, the type of generic brown curry sauce you get on chips after a rake of pints. This is the signature "Coach House Curry".4 hours later its still repeating on me. When paying the bill I commented that the curry was extremely bad value with cooked veg mixed with packet curry sauce for €21, the barmaid commented "well I like it". I grew up in the area and its decades since i was in the Coach, and may be again afer that experience. Terrible terrible food experience which was grossly overpriced.

They have big screens too if you want to watch football and there is usually a good atmosphere for the bigger games. The Sunday carvery in here is not particularly good in my opinion, I only had it once but I never had it again purely because it was dry and tough and not very tasty the first time I had it. It is a very local pub for those living in ballinteer and you will always get your regulars in here but you don't get an unwelcoming sense when you come in like you would in other local pubs.

The Blue Light - me and the girls enjoying blue light

Great food served by the best staff in Covid safe environment…read more The Blue Light has long been renowned for creamy pints of Guinness and amazing views of Dublin City but it's also a great spot for Covid safe dining this Winter. Meals are available from 1pm each day, the quality is excellent and the staff are genuinely friendly and helpful. There's a range of indoor and (covered) outdoor areas so you can find somewhere suitable even on a cold, damp day. Booking would be recommended at the weekend.

After we drunk the coffees some musitians arrived, so we decided to stay for some pints. We waited for the waiter to come and take a new order but he kept running up and down without considering us. Eventually, around 16:10 the manager came asking in a rude manner if we were to dring something, so we said yes and ordered some pints. Right after the waiter came to place a "reserved" plate on our table. So I asked what's the meaning and they answered that there were customers coming at 17:00, I replied back that we were customers already sitting it that place, he said they have a policy for customers drinking only to stay max 2 hours at the table. I went to speack with the manager and the answer was the same. I felt unwanted and poorly served. I believe such rudness cannot be forgiven. Never again in such place where they do not know the basic rules of savoir-faire, quality service and politness. Moreover, the place was dirty and the coffee quality was questionable!

The staff and the crowd of regulars at this charming pub are among the most welcoming we have experienced in all of Ireland! They were as excited to tell us about their country and as they were to ask about ours! They were funny and friendly and the highlight of our day. Now that takes some beating. McEvoys is one of those places that is just made for one of those ultra-rare-not-a-cloud-in-the-sky days. Set right on the canal just outside of Celbridge is this gorgeous pub. Full of walkers who have come along the canal on a stroll with their dogs plus lots of locals and even some lucky houseboat owners. The mood is always friendly and jovial, with an atmosphere that's second to none. Here you will find: - A pre-pint walk along the canal - A load of benches with a view of the boats and the water - A super cosy and comfy bar inside if it gets a tad chilly in the evening (you know it will!) - A great pint of the black stuff - A dog friendly bar To be honest, whether it's raining or shining, I'd still recommend this spot. Gwan the outskirts!
