Even when you receive an order that is nothing like what you asked for!!! I am incredibly impressed with the customer service & beautiful flowers from The Wild Orchid! I needed a flower delivery from a distance, and would 100% use them again. The communication was impeccable - very available and helpful by phone and text. Kelly discussed her different products with me to help me pick the best bouquet for my mom. She had the product delivered right on time and sent a photo to confirm as promised. As asked, she included chocolates -- and even remembered to include only dark chocolate since I mentioned my mom did not like milk chocolate. At first, I was hesitant based on some other reviews, but I am SO glad I gave The Wild Orchid a try. It was top notch service and a beautiful, colorful, fresh bouquet of unique tropical flowers. If I could give a negative review I would. The worst florist ever. It seems if you get married in the fall there is only fall flowers available. Ordered white, peach and dahila flowers and I got red and burgundy with Kale for greenery. Then tried to blame Covid for not getting correct flowers. Will not respond and I do not understand when you request pictures of flowers before she starts to arrange them she states no! She knew she was in the wrong a d Will not work on a partial refund when you have to run to another florist to get the peach and white flowers. BBB bureau is next on my list for this company $350 stole from me. I recently ordered what I thought was represented on The Wild Orchid's web site called "Funky for Fifty" which is represented as a beautiful bouquet of flowers. The product they delivered was not even close. It was a plant that is to be cared for. I called to inquire and spoke to Karen who was very unpleasant and rude to talk to. She kept interrupting me and was definitely on the defense as opposed to listening to a customer concern. I do not recommend using this florist. I will never use them again. read more

We live in Arizona and we ordered the "Funky for Fifty" bouquet, as shown on their Grimes Iowa store website, for my MIL's 90th Birthday. The bouquet as shown was beautifully designed with many different types of flowers. When delivered it was a HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT! The shop thought substituting the beautiful multi-flowered bouquet with a single flowered plant was a good idea---IT WAS NOT. We contacted the owner and were told that we should have read the fine print. We read the fine print, it has no verbiage indicating that the owner may substitute a single flowering plant for a huge multi flower bouquet. WE DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS FLOWER SHOP!!! read more

One star because in order to write a review it was required. I ordered a plant and cookies for my daughter for Nurses week. I asked to have them delivered at the hospital ER in Des Moines where she was working that day. My daughter called me to say thank you and I asked her how the cookies were, and she replied, what cookies? Let's go back to the beginning now....when I placed the order, the woman on the phone insisted I pay by Venmo because she had been hacked and would only accept a direct form of payment. I understand now why this was so important to her - I know of no way of getting any refund from her at this point. After speaking to my daughter, I texted the woman to inform her that the cookies did not arrive and that I would call the shop in the morning to follow up. Her reply was, "cookies were delivered, hmmmmm," to which I politely said, "maybe they were left on the truck or something, we can talk tomorrow and figure it out." She then proceeded to call me and say that she had personally delivered them and that the employees in the ER probably stole them when they were delivered - also told me that no one at the hospital who even knew my daughter. I thought it was the strangest conversation and then she began yelling at me about how busy she was and that she had seen so many people, and how could she remember everything! I ended up hanging up on her because she was completely out of control and very rude, and unprofessional. I phoned my daughter back and she told me that the people in the ER and at the entrance all know her and are her co-workers. The man at the entrance swore up and down that only flowers were delivered and even said he would call the woman to discuss if my daughter wanted. Needless to say, we both agreed to chalk it up to bad service and a woman who had a BADDDDD day! I hope she finds some peace with herself and maybe thinks of purchasing a planner. Do not use this company. They confirmed my delivery for Friday afternoon but my family never received the arrangement. I called Monday and they claimed the delivery was left with the neighbor. They then called hours later to say my family member never answered the door when they brought "fresh" flowers over despite them working from home all day. After multiple phone calls with a very confused and less than friendly employee, they again left flowers with the neighbor. They finally made it to my family (thanks to the neighbor who walked them over) and they were nothing like what I paid for. Choose someone else for your flower needs. read more

BE CAREFUL - OVER-BILLING NIGHTMARE I ordered flowers a couple times for my daughter in West Des Moines for $74.95 then hit got hit charges for 10 times that amount a 5 weeks after the initial purchase. This is the SECOND TIME. The overcharges were $749.50 the first time and $795.50 the second time. I never complained about the flowers or service. There was no other dispute. I just got ripped on over-billing. So I googled the problem and found Jolene K's comments 9/9/17. SAME PROBLEM! I called Wild Orchid this morning. I was told she never heard of this problem. She mentioned accounting systems problems in the past and promised to contact her accountant but since it was Valentine's Day and they were busy, it might be a while until I heard back. I told her I had bank records and would gladly handle with the accountant directly, but she said the owner would be charged money by the accountant. I asked if she would call me back Monday. She said no. When I asked for owner's name, she refused bc it was confidential. I asked for her name - on the phone with me right now - and she hung up. I called the West Des Moines police this morning and they told me to file a report with my local police station in Chicago. read more

It is an absolute shame that such horrid customer service is allowed at would be an otherwise decent florist. My lovely girlfriend purchased a terrarium for me as a surprise, and at first, I was quite pleased with what I received. Then I was told how they treated both my girlfriend and my mother for asking basic questions regarding the order. Not only was the final order missing flowers, but it was apparently delivered late. I received this today on January 7th, But the 4th was the agreed delivery date. On Monday when my partner inquired about the delivery status of the order she met with rudeness and hostility. She was told every single day that it would be delivered and then told that it would need to delay until tomorrow with no real reason given. With this "store" the worst thing you can do is call to check on an order. My partner called to request an update on the order, as one does when one wants to ensure that a gift for a loved one is of the highest quality. She was snobbishly told to stop calling because her interruption was ruining their work and that as the experts they knew what they were doing. They in fact did not know what they were doing. I am convinced that this place is run by 7 feral raccoons pretending to be a person because no human with even a modicum of experience in society would ever talk to a person, let alone a customer the way this store does. Simple questions are treated as deep personal attacks, which is almost comical considering they barely let you say three words before huffing and interrupting as rudely as possible with the halitosis ridden trash hole they call a mouth. In the order, a purple order was specifically requested, as it is one of my favorite flowers. Apparently this is a task far too great, as a plant "with slightly purple leaves" was used as a replacement. Their failure to procure this item was not meet with an apologetic nature though, they simply tried to gaslight my partner into believing she had never requested the flower. This was surprising considering she was told that these experts would make no such mistake. I would be hard-pressed to trust these abscesses of humanity with lawn clippings. read more

Worst flower shop ever! Don't waste your time. We called from out of state to have a plant delivered. The plant was delivered as ordered. However, we discovered recurring charges on our account to amount to over $3,500! When we called the floral shop and explain what we discovered, the owner was rude and non apologetic. As a result, we had to close our account so that future charges wouldn't occur. Of course, we disputed the charges. The owner indicated that they too discovered the error of the recurring charges BEFORE we did, but then never contacted us nor tried to make it right. Again, worst service and experience ever. I only gave it a 1-star because the plant that was ordered and delivered met the needs of what we were wanting. It's interesting when you read a post from 11/15, the author commented on recurring charges and the owner replied that they were fixing the issues. Well, it's 9/17, and it appears they never fixed the problem. They appear to be scam artists. read more

I ordered chocolate covered strawberries and they looked as somebody just bought a strawberries from store and dipped in chocolate. Nothing especial. When I complained on the phone the owner started yelling at me and then she called my daughter and started yelling at her. I wrote a review on Google and this owner called me 3 times at work and also called my husband to complain because she said I lied about her. Nothing I said was untrue and then she got someone to write a 5 star review contradicting word for word my 1 star review. I had to threaten the BBB to get her to stop calling me at work. She told me she was given my number at work which was a lie because the only number my husband has is my direct number and she called the main number. I wanted to order something unique to congratulate my brother and his fiancee on their engagement from out of state. I called The Wild Orchid and asked for some advice, and got someone who was in the greenhouse. She texted me photos of different options until I chose one that I loved. I mentioned the one I chose would match their color scheme, and she then put it in a pot that would match as well! She then delivered the orchid that night on her way home from work. Excellent service! I needed to have flowers sent within a narrow time frame; these guys went above and beyond what you'd typically consider good service. I wanted something unique for a dear friend; their suggestions were great and even called back during the design process to make sure I liked what they were pulling together. They were also priced very competitively and didn't include any "surprise charges" like I've experienced in the past ("oh sorry - we used a more expensive vase we thought you'd like"). As a man in his fifties - I've been around long to enough to be able to identify retailers that have a "heart of a servant." These guys nailed it - I'll be using them again. JR read more

HORRIBLE, UTTERLY LOW-CLASS EXPERIENCE. LOOK ELSEWHERE!! They are rude, unorganized and delivered a disappointing experience from start to finish. I selected this florist shop to deliver an arrangement and a bottle of wine to my mother for her birthday. As is usually the type of scenario when someone is sending flowers - I live across the country from my mother so it was extremely important to me that what I sent would make her feel as special and as loved as possible on her special day. What happened instead was that I paid a huge sum for them to instead make her day memorable for delivering completely sub-par product and then insulting & harassing my mother and myself in the 'follow-up'. When I first ordered over the phone, the person took my payment information and was about to hang up on me before I'd even told them what I wanted! That was my first red flag. But I went ahead and explained what I was looking for, specifying that I wanted peonies in the arrangement. I also requested a bottle of wine of a certain type and value. I relayed my message for the card, spelling of names, etc. and I was assured, twice, that they would call my mother to arrange for a delivery time when she would be at home, as they said it was not their policy to leave them outside in the event no one was at home. On the day of the delivery, my mother's actual birthday, I got a call from the delivery person, very frustrated with the fact that no one was at home. No one had called to make any arrangements with my mother before-hand and the driver did not have her contact information with her. Somehow, the frustration of their mistake was being directed at me. We then scrambled to have them delivered to my father at his workplace instead. I later learned from my mother (along with photographs) that a number of the flowers were already wilted and/or in their final days. Nor were there any peonies at all in the arrangement. If the florist did not have any peonies, the right time to discuss that with me would have been during the ordering phase when I was describing what I had in mind. If they later learned that was not possible, a call back to me would have been much appreciated. My name and my mother's name were misspelled on the card and the message was not complete as I had relayed it. The bottle of wine was half the value of what I had said I wanted it to be (but you better believe I was fully charged for what I had indicated I wanted to pay - they had no good response for this). When I called to, initially calmly say that I had some disappointment to discuss about this entire transaction, the person I spoke with on the phone responded with an immediately exasperated response of 'Oh my god, one second' then put me on hold, came back on instantly argumentative about why, in her view, I had no reason to be upset. In her words, there was just 'no way' they would ever deliver flowers that were already 'half-dead', no matter what I was trying to explain or the photos my mother sent them. She was defensive to the point of insulting my mother for informing me of the quality of what she received! My mother should have been more thankful and pleased, I was told, instead of complaining to me. My mother is a very gracious and caring person who also knows about flowers, flower arranging and quality of product and she was concerned, as mothers tend to be, that I paid a lot of money on my modest income for something that did not represent the value I paid for. The person I spoke with on the phone had no interest in making it right when they spoke to me, she was entirely focused on being defensive, speaking over the top of me and trying to disqualify every comment I had about all the elements that were off the mark. Basically, every piece of this entire order was in some way wrong or below standard. Immediately after getting off the phone with me - that same person called my mother, presumably to follow up, but that person actually ended up berating my mother for 'complaining' to me instead of just receiving the flowers and 'being grateful'!! Are you KIDDING me?! They told her that they 'were going to do something for your daughter but now we're not', apparently because my mother was being 'ungrateful'. That's really, truly the most outrageous and despicable version of customer service I've ever experienced in my entire life. As far as my experience goes, it appears that this place is without a single dash of grace or class. None. I will NEVER again, under any circumstances, use this shop to send any gifts to my family or friends. You shouldn't either. *UPDATE* - I received a voicemail from the proprietor, letting me know that as a result of my reporting my experience here on Yelp, they would definitely do nothing to rectify this utterly despicable situation of their own creation.
