This was a fun place for a date night! We started off smelling various scents to see which ones we wanted for our candle. We were gonna try all of them, but as I smelled more and more scents, it was too much for me. I suggest not trying everything but just smell the ones you're interested in (maybe even like 30-40, but definitely not all). The process for making the candle was actually really simple. It took less than 10 minutes to make it, but at least 7 days for it to set. Also, make sure you can come back within 2 weeks to pick up the candle. Otherwise, it will be donated! The service was definitely 5/5! The staff were so friendly, and one offered to help us take photos at the end! Overall, I had a great experience at Wick Lab. However, it is pretty expensive (~$22 for one candle). Going there once to try it out was good enough for me, and I probably won't go back because of the price. FYI, make sure you make a reservation early if you plan to go there. I passed by the place twice before without a reservation, and unfortunately, it was full both times :( But it really depends on when you go. You can check the availability on their website. read more

We came here before dinner for our two year wedding anniversary. Overall it was a fun experience to have with each other. We loved sniffing all the scents and picking our favorites. A few things that could be improved: 1. There is no seating at the front with the exception of a wooden bench and had cobwebs all over it and looked like you'd get a splinter in your booty if you sat. So sorry folks, standing room only until you get some help. The bathroom wasn't super clean and seemed a bit run down compared to the rest of the place. 2. After we picked our scents, we noticed they were out of the cheapest choice (clear candle holders). We asked if they had anymore and they simply said "no sorry" and thus we were basically forced to default to the more expensive option. This was 430pm on a Saturday. It'd be nice if they were better prepared with stock, especially if they take reservations like we had. 3. Your experience building your candle will weigh heavily with your chandler that you receive. Ours happened to be pretty blunt and didn't smile much. The couple next to us seemed to have a bit more fun with their friendly and talkative chandler. BUT we had each other so we just made the best of it! 4. One of the gals working literally ate a sandwich in front of everyone behind the candle making counter. It doesn't seem they have a break room but that kinda of killed the vibe and experience. All that said, they really have something going here, I mean it's a great idea and fun little niche. My husband said when he went to pick up our candles the staff was much more lively and friendly so maybe they were just having an off day, who knows. We would definitely come again and give it another go! I'd like to bring my Aunts next time they visit! As far as the candles, they don't have the best throw. It's definitely not comparable to BBW candles type of throw but I think the fact that it was made by you it's just what makes them fun and special! The cold sniff smells great though! read more

This place is so fun! The Wick Lab is a must-try for everyone. It's DIY, it's easy, it's creative, and it doesn't take long at all. And the staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. Our experience was seamless. If you're sensitive to strong smells, this is your official warning. The scents are STRONG within the walls of this shop. And you're asked to smell multiple candles before your candle-making begins. Ultimately, I think this place is a tad overpriced but still worth trying. I love any experience that you can share with other people and take something commemorative home. Something to note: You do have to wait ~24 hours for your candle to be ready for pickup. So don't expect to leave with your candle in-hand on the same day as your reservation. read more

Rating (maximum points = 5) Value for money: 3 Cleanliness: 3 Food Quality: N/A Customer Service: 5 Look and Feel (Ambience): 5 Thank you, Come Again?: 4 The Wick Lab is a great option if you are looking for a fun date night, a girl's night out, or just an overall unique activity. Creating custom candles with unique scents is another alternative to activities like "Painting With a Twist", "Color Me Mine", and "Dipped Haus". Key Recommendations: 1. Incorporate coat hooks underneath the table (for bags, purses, and light outerwear) or have a dedicated area for them. The guests are offered to sit on bar stools during the candle build process but there isn't a place for people to hang their outerwear anywhere except the floor. Floors can get pretty nasty. 2. For sanitation and safety purposes, provide gloves to the staff and the guests. The gloves help ensure everyone's hands are clean from the scented oil but it protects them from the hot wax if that accidentally gets spilled. I didn't see a hand-washing station but the staff did provide wet naps for the guests. Wet naps aren't very effective since the oils can linger on the skin for a couple of hours. If it's a bad scent, then it can cause irritation to the guests. 3. Explore other add-on options. $2 for a glitter upgrade is highway robbery. My party and I were joking that we could get a small bottle of glitter across the street at Michael's craft store for $5 and share it with everyone. Overall, my party and I had a great time mixing scents and assembling one-of-a-kind candles. I would be very selective about who I would recommend this activity to. If your friend, spouse, or loved one can survive being in stores such as "Lush" or "Bath and Body Works" for an hour, then I would recommend taking them to Wick It as well. This shop is not great for people with sensitivity to smells. The scent options were adequate but there were a few favorites (~5 out of 100) that were unfortunately out of stock. The price is a bit steep for ~$19.97-$32.50 per candle but I understand that the price takes into account service, labor, and cost of materials. The final cost is dependent on the upgrades and the container selection Would you go? Let me know. Follow me for all the Salt City sips and trips. read more

My sister and I came in here earlier this month, and had so much more fun than I expected! They have a really well thought out set up, where you start by sampling different scents. From there, you get to choose your jar and wick, and sample different combinations of scents before mixing the oils and waxes to create your own custom blend. What really set this experience apart was how hands on and interactive it was. It also felt like the girls who were working at the store were so incredibly knowledgeable and professional, and they really went above and beyond to talk you step by step through the process. Overall, I would say this is an excellent option for a girls night out, birthday party, or a date night! We each spent about $25 per candle, but you could do it for as little as $20 (more if you do upgrades, such as a fancy jar/wooden wick/lotion) Special shout out to our candleier (I forgot the term), Addy! She did an excellent job and was super helpful! read more

I love smelly things-seriously, my sense of smell triggers so many emotions, memories and feelings. I sniff everything. Always. So when I heard that I could go to a place and smell All. The. Things. and make my very own candle, you bet your booty I was all about it. I brought my reluctant, anti-sniffer wife along with me. She is sensitive to smells and prefers light scents or fragrance-free living. The things we do for love, right? (Spoiler alert: she had so much fun and says she wants to do it again. Ha. Candle convert.) When you first arrive, you fill out a waiver, select your candle jar (there's a sliding scale based on what you select), then hit the Wall 'O Smells. There are dozens of scents you can stick your sniffer to and write a list of your favorites. (I ended up with about nine that I fell in love with, then I asked for some guidance on which ones to combine into my final masterpiece.) Once you've elected your scents, you belly up to the bar. There are a few nice staffers ready to walk you through the candle making process. Lucky for me, I had a nice young lady that looked at my list of fragrances and made some suggestions-otherwise I would have been overwhelmed. You can select up to three scents per candle. Making the candle was the easy part. We selected our wicks (I got the traditional one while my wife picked the newer wooden stick.) You mix your oils into a cocktail jigger-but don't let that trick you into drinking it. After you get the oil concoction just right, you pour it into the melted (hot) wax and stir for a few minutes. It was fun to see and smell what everyone around us was making-there sure were lots of different combinations! We poured our mixed and melted wax into our jars, then put a sticker on the jar which bore the name we had invented for the candle. This might have been the most difficult part-especially for the creative challenged, like me. Now, we wait. Our works of art were placed on a shelf to cure and harden up for a few days. We will return next week to pick them up and bring them home. If we forget, like lots of people do, those candles get put up for "adoption" and other patrons can purchase them at a discount, with 30% of the proceeds going to charity. We were told that we could have the candles shipped, if we wanted. Nah, I'll just come back so I can smell a few things again. And maybe start the whole process over again. read more

HUGE selection of scents to choose from! It was fun to make a candle, but also a quick quick date night. The process was super simple, which is why it was such a short date night. Worth the experience but I didn't love it. Great service though. Our host was very kind and tried to make the experience fun. You leave your candle there to dry and come back to pick it up a day or two later. Candles that are not picked up are put up for adoption. So we adopted some candles while there too. It was fun to smell the creations that others came up with. read more

Ok so with a candle place, obviously you want good quality scents and this place DELIVERS. This place is so much fun! My mom, friend, and I made a reservation on their website and came here right when they opened at 11am. When you walk in, they have you fill out a form with your name and number, and then you guide yourself through all of the candle scent options they have (which is a LOT!) They have you write down all of your favorite scents, keeping in mind your top 2-3 per candle you're making. They recommend 1-3 scents to be combined into one candle. Once you pick your scents, you start mixing the oils together to create your own candle! We spent a little bit of time sampling the scents and which ones went well together. They provide the wax, you select your candle holder, wick, and then mix the oils in and voila! You have your own handmade candle. They do require you to come pick your candle up within a few days, and I believe you have 14 days after they message you to come pick the candles up, otherwise they're donated. This is a great date night idea or a fun thing to do with friends! We made two candles each and the whole process was about 45 minutes to an hour long. We were one of two groups there right at 11 so we got one on one attention from one of their "chandlers" (which is what they call the staff there). This was a really fun and cute thing to do and we had a lot of fun! read more

What a cool experience! My wife and I made it into the Wick Lab, and it was such a fun time. Start by checking in at the front and make your way to the smelling wall. Probably 5 BILLION different smells here people. I'm talking all the classics: vanilla, fresh linen, sandlewood, lavender, all the citruses, etc. Down to the WTF: bacon, old library books and so many more! Pick your top 3 scents, and mix your scents to match the fragrance you are looking for. We went with the OG amber glass for our candles, and upgraded to the wood wick and added some glitter to our wax. Made our way to the Black Sheep for dinner, and the completed candles were ready for pick up before we finished our meal. Perfect for a date night out, or getting together with friends for a celebration. read more

For my boyfriend and I's anniversary, we wanted to do something fun so we made reservations here. It was such a cool and fun experience, and I felt like it was reasonably priced. You start off by smelling all of the candles on the wall to determine what scents you like, and then you get help from a "chandler" to make the actual candle. Our chandler was super helpful and kind! She made the process easy and even offered to take a picture of us at the end with our finished candle. In total (with tip), it was around $30 (we also got an upgraded candle jar and wood wick for extra, so it very easily could've been about $5-8 cheaper). It was such a fun and different date night activity, and I already want to go back! Would def recommend. read more

Create-your-own-candles done right!! The Wick Lab really is such an experience from the moment you walk in and see the cute set-up and beautiful candle wall. The employees are super nice, and they are so helpful during the entire process. Once you fill out their waiver, you are handed a cute little clipboard with a paper for taking notes. This is where it starts to get fun!! You have the next 30 minutes (or however long it takes you) to smell away and create your signature scent! The giant candle wall has like 200 candles on it, each with a unique fragrance. You can create your own combination of whichever fragrances you want. Once you have your scent combination created (I chose grapefruit and peppercorn -- weird but sooo good), you tell the employees, and they grab the fragrance oils for you. Then, you get to pour the fragrance oils into the hot wax, stir it up, put the wick in the candle jar that you chose (they have a few colors and styles to choose from), and pour the wax into the candle. Ta-da!! Now your candle is finished!! THEN, you have to go take a cute picture with your friends in front of their cute neon sign wall. And then you leave and come back to pick up your candle in 24 hours. Seriously, such a fun activity. $20 is kind of pricey for a little jar candle, BUT it's totally worth it for the experience. If you go (and you absolutely should!), make sure that you take your time perfecting your fragrance. And have so much fun! read more

OH MY GOD! I love this place!!! When I first walked in, I was admittedly a little overwhelmed by how STRONG the smell is when you walk into the store. Of course, it's a candle shop, so idk what I was expecting, lol. We went through EVERY single candle scent. Thankfully, there are coffee beans to cleanse your pallet after a while because there are a lot. We settled on a list & Christi brought us every scent combo we asked for!! She was such an amazing person to help us through the process. It was so fun & we will 1,000,000% be returning to make more candles in the fall & winter!! They really DO have 100 different scents! The hours are really restricted. Due to traffic, there was only one employee on site. Within the first fifteen minutes, everyone for the 6pm class arrived and 30 people came to pick up candles. It was madness. The barstools were ridiculously tall. If you are in a wheelchair, they don't want your business. I had to ask for a chair because there was no way to vault up to the counter. You can't choose your wax color, but you can add glitter. The make your own labels only allowed sharpie markers that smeared everywhere. I have taken perfume making classes in Paris. This place is suited for preteen birthday parties. Parking sucks. read more

I loveeee the wick lab. This place is perfect for dates. And isn't crazy expensive. One candle will cost about $20 but you're also paying for the experience which to me is worth it. On the topic of timing, for the low side you could be there for like 30-45 min and on the high side you could spend like an hour to an hour and a half doing the whole experience. If you like all the smell good stuff then this place is literal heaven for you. The second you walk in you are hit with an wave of aroma of various smells. There is an entire wall where you can smell individual scents and write down which ones you like the most. By the end of the candle wall you have the option between different colored vases and wicks. Then you can choose up to 3 different scents that you like the most and combine them to make your perfect candle! If you're having a hard time deciding, the staff is super patient with letting you test out different ones before you actually combine them. After you combine the scents with the wax and put it in your vase, you then get to decorate the sticker to put on the front and name your candle! After a day or 2 you can pick it up and then light it up at home!! Seriously one of my favorite spots in Provo and I've even gone there just to make candles for my loved ones as gifts! Lastly they have the iconic wick wall that everyone knows and loves to post about. read more

Went for a work girls night. It was a different type of activity I've never thought of doing but it was so fun! Probably will go back.

The Wick Lab doesn't care about its customers, it just cares about a money grab. The candles are overpriced and an employee named Breilly had extremely awful customer service. The lid for the candles are an extra charge (as well as every other thing) and I paid for a lid. However, my candle didn't have a lid with it when I went to pick it up and Breilly claimed that I was lying about paying for a lid and wouldn't give me the lid I was charged for (which by the way is an extremely cheap quality plastic lid). She was very inconsiderate and refused to help me out. The situation left a very sour taste in my mouth which will lead me to never recommend this place to anyone ever. read more

We visited here last when they first opened, so although I just posted this review, it's more reflected a few months ago. We were greeted from the moment we walked in, and the place was so cute! You pick a glass candle jar (white, black, or amber), then you pick out your scents! They give you a sheet of paper to jot your favorite ones down. You'll sit at the counter and someone will help you choose which smells would go well with one another. You get to sniff them, but I don't know if that's still happening with covid-19 precautions. You get to mix your scents into the wax and pour your wax for the candle. You'll have to come back after a few hours if you want to take it home the same day so that the wax will harden. The candle shouldn't be lit until a week later due to preserving the scents, but we didn't light ours for several months later and it still smelled soooo good! read more
