As a first-time dining experience, the White Marlin was a great one! From the moment we arrived until the moment we left; it was all in all a pleasurable experience. The host/hostess staff immediately greeted my friend and me when we arrived and confirmed our reservation. She thanked us for being first-timers and seated us right away. We sat at a table where the Oysterette bar is located. Our server (Tim) was great! He had a witty sense of humor, was friendly and engaging, and attentive but not overly attentive. To say the food was delicious is an understatement. We started with martinis that were made exactly as we'd asked. We both had Ceasar Salads. The dressing was phenomenal. Just the right amount of dressing, a generous amount of cheese, and tasty (freshly made) croutons. Our entrees were the House Creations Filet Mignon with Robuchon Potatoes and Asparagus and the King Crab. Both were Chef's kiss perfection. Sadly, there was no room for dessert, so we passed on it. But the options sounded great! The atmosphere was energetic. There were families on Spring Break and birthday celebrations going on. The view of the outside deck/seating area and the view of ocean only added to the evening. We couldn't have asked for a better first-time at White Marlin. The only minor hiccup was one of the salads was served on a plate that had chips on it. We brought it to our server's attention, and he apologized for the mishap. It certainly didn't ruin the salad or our experience. Minor thing in the grand scheme of things. Would we return to WM if ever in PSJ...absolutely would! This is my 3rd year visiting the area and my first time eating at the White Marlin. This is the fanciest restaurant I've been to in this area. Most places around here are pretty low key due to the sleepy beach town vibes. You can wear sandals and bathing suits to most restaurants in Port St Joe. This was a special meal for our family and we would have felt out of place if we didn't dress up a bit. You will be fine here in your favorite t-shirt but most folks got a bit more dressed up than that for dinner here. The restaurant itself is beautiful inside and out. There are some amazing views out the back windows and plenty of outdoor seating in the back as well. The staff was so kind and friendly. We never got that snooty feeling that you sometimes get at fancier restaurants like this. Staff bent over backwards to make sure everything was to our liking for the entire time we were there. Bread was brought to the table straight away. The waiter recommended the meatball appetizer to go with it which was also very good. I got half a dozen raw oysters and they were great as well. I got the swamp martini which went really well with the oysters although some may find it off putting to look at (it looks like a swamp, its right there in the name). My wife got a "maverick" which was a spicy vodka drink garnished with cucumber that she really enjoyed. For dinner, 3 of us got filet's and my wife got the tuna steak. I got Crab Diane and scooped it over the top of the filet which was awesome. For dessert we split a piece of key lime pie. It was a perfect cap to a great meal. It's easy to eat too much when everything is this good. The whole family loved it. My teenage boys didn't feel out of place here. We stepped out onto the deck for a picture of the sun setting after dinner and I slept like a baby that night. Best meal I've had in a while. Great ambiance, great staff, and great food, will definitely stop here every year when we are in town. read more

Reservations made via Open Table for our party of five on Thanksgiving Eve. We're "framily" visiting Port St Joe for the week from Ponte Vedra! Seated immediately at our outdoor table - a bit chilly, so eventually we got a fire lamp placed nearby. Served early with olive bread with a balsamic glaze was a nice touch as we awaited our drinks. Bartender Tracy served up some delicious drinks ... an old fashioned, sangria, day at the beach! Server, John was hustling to get all the customers taken care of ... there was a bit of a delay - but we chatted amongst ourselves ... there were a few other servers topping off water and running food. Oysters were a hit! And coconut shrimp delicious. Entree's were filling and healthy portions. The fish of the day was Mahi-Mahi ... fresh and seasoned perfectly. The scallops were large. The Chicken Marsala was unexpected with bone-in ... and the seafood pasta was delicious. Happy we got an opportunity to eat here while on vacation... at the forgotten coast! read more

What an incredible experience. Spent my 33rd birthday dinner here, solo, and it was beyond exceptional. My waitress, Jessica, was attentive, kind and personable. The ambiance was fantastic, especially as the sun set, what a stunning sight. I ordered the filet steak with Brussels and fried calamari strips as an appetizer. The steak was the most delicious steak I have ever eaten, and that says something, my father makes a wonderful steak. Since it was my birthday I was offered a free cookie/ice cream scoop or a crème brûlée, but I chose the Key Lime Pie, as it is a tradition for my birthday each year. We have been fairly regular diners here-- year round. I always make a reservation and we have never failed to show. We were late for our reservation by 10 minutes (I thought it was for 6, and it was for 5:45). The parking lot was empty. The hostess laughed and said there were no tables available. Not a wait. Not a "we will see what we can do." No tables available. We left. I looked at open table and I could have made a reservation from the parking lot for 10 minutes later. How is that acceptable??? The last time we dined we were told there was no bread... while we watched loaves of bread leave the kitchen. This used to be a great restaurant-- now they just have a nice patio with a pretty view. This was beyond a 5 star experience. We had a reservation so we quickly got our table upon arrival. Dana our waitress quickly greeted us and got us going with drinks while we looked at the menu. Dana made the best recommendations and made sure we got just what we wanted. The bourbon espresso martini that was on the dessert martini on the menu, was one of the best espresso martinis I've ever had; smooth and great flavors. We started with appetizers: calamari, coconut shrimp, and Rockefeller oysters. All were done to perfection and so tasty. I'm not a big oyster person but the oysters Rockefeller with the spinach and cheese was the best! I personally had the brown butter scallops and they were huge and some of the best I've ever had. The lobster tacos were loved by all. The Parmesan crusted grouper was a hit with my friends. And the sushi roll was fresh and made exactly to order. When we asked for a key lime pie, Dana also brought us out a special treat for our special girls night celebration. The views were so peaceful and gorgeous. Had 5:30 reservations on Friday. Seated right away. Josiah was our server and was attentive and efficient despite having tables both on the inside and outside on the patio. We sat inside because at this time of year, you never know how cold the weather is going to be outside. The sunset view was gorgeous and we were treated to a very beautiful sunset. There were four of us in our party and we had the following meals: Scallops with truffled risotto- 4 huge scallops perfectly seared on top of a large portion of risotto. Topped off with a parmesan crisp. The presentation was beautiful and my father-in-law raved about the taste and the portion Fish of the day with mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables. The fish was wahoo. When we inquired about the fish of the day, the waiter told us when they did the pre-tasting, it was a bit dry. My mother-in-law ordered it. A large portion of fish grilled with mashed potatoes and really nice seasonal veggies that were cooked perfectly. Coconut encrusted grouper with caribbean rice- Beautiful presentation with a large piece of moist coconut encrusted grouper. The grouper was perfectly cooked and very moist. The rice was spiced well and was a great compliment to a lovely piece of fish. A drizzle of a lemon aioli was also on the plate. Swordfish with goat cheese mashed potatoes- Another pretty plate with lemon aioli and a balsamic glaze. Perfectly cooked swordfish. Again, a large piece of fish over a huge portion of amazing mashed potatoes. No way I could get anywhere close to finishing the potatoes but they were amazing. The potatoes were rich. I never had thought about adding goat cheese to potatoes but man-oh-man what an addition. Everyone was too full to have dessert so maybe next time, we will split an entree and enjoy dessert too. Good wine selection by both the glass and the bottle as well as draft and bottled beer. One of my favorite things is to have bubbles by the glass available and White Marlin has several available. Everything was 5 stars except the Key Lime Pie (which was like a 1 star). The environment and setting was very nice even though it was a cloudy night and we didn't get a sunset view. The staff was helpful but spread thin (maybe 3 total servers for the whole place?). The meal was good. The appetizer of flatbread came out quick and was tasty but not spiced anything special; would get again. The coconut snapper was excellent and the sauce on the side allowed us to control the sweetness of each bite. The filet was cooked perfect to our order and the potatoes and Brussels were an excellent addition. The key lime pie....was a let down. It clearly wasn't made fresh and the taste profile was flat and not really worth it. The fresh aspects of it clearly were made to dress it up, which was a solid attempt but our palate didn't appreciate the lack of lime flavor. The orchid flower and the crumbled graham crackers garnish were the only fresh items on the dish, the crust which is supposed to be graham crackers clearly wasn't and didn't even taste remotely like graham cracker. read more

I don't know if you can give an establishment zero stars, but I am going to try. Unfortunately, we never got a seat or a meal. I was told upon entry that my service dog was not allowed inside. When I explained he was a SERVICE DOG, the young lady got her manager who then told me she would provide a table on the porch for me. It was a very cold and windy evening. We didn't want to cause a scene, so we left. Not sure how far my complaining might go. DOJ investigates complaints that violate individual's rights regarding disabilities and service dogs. White Marlin - Disappointing Execution Despite a Promising Atmosphere... I stopped at White Marlin for the first time after noticing it on my drive from Pensacola to St. George Island. The exterior and ambiance looked fantastic, and with the beautiful weather, I decided to sit at the outdoor bar. The bar service was excellent--I had a margarita and an Irish coffee, both well-made. Unfortunately, the quality of the food and the handling of an issue with my meal left a lot to be desired. I ordered the calamari "fingers" and the filet mignon stuffed with crab. The calamari was overly chewy, though not entirely inedible, so I didn't mention it. The bigger issue was with the steak. I ordered it medium-rare, but it arrived closer to medium-well. I showed the bartender, who agreed that it wasn't what I had ordered and had the kitchen remake it. The second attempt came out nearly raw in the center--well beyond rare, with cold streaks of unrendered fat throughout. When I raised this concern with the manager, the response was baffling. Instead of offering a proper resolution--whether that be making another steak correctly, offering an alternative, or even removing it from the bill--she repeatedly suggested putting the scraps left on my plate back on the grill so I could take them to go. Not only was this an odd and impractical suggestion, but it also demonstrated a lack of care for customer experience. The fact that the steak was supposedly "temped three times" before serving, while visibly raw, tells me that either their kitchen is struggling with basic execution or that management is more focused on justifying mistakes rather than fixing them. For the prices they charge and the upscale presentation they strive for, I expected better. White Marlin has the atmosphere and service potential, but the food and customer resolution approach don't match the setting. With so many great options in the area, I wouldn't return unless I heard of serious improvements. read more

My husband and I made reservations here for my birthday, which was mentioned at the time the reservation was made. Once we got there we were hurried outside to a two top in the sun. Our waiter, Alex, came and took our drink order and brought some bread. Bread was delicious. He took our food order, and then he got really really busy. I think it took like 30 minutes for our food to arrive, no problem. I had the twin lobster tails and my husband had the surf and turf, filet with scallops. Again both were great. This is where everything goes downhill. We sat at our table for at least 45 minutes with empty plates and glasses. We were never asked if we wanted another drink. Never acknowledged by anyone it was my birthday. We finally got our waiter to put in a dessert to go and to bring the check. He brought the check before he brought me the dessert. Again, no big deal. Like I said, he was REALLY BUSY. While we waited for our dessert, a woman came over to our table. I assume she was management, not sure. She was dressed very inappropriately for the restaurant we were at. She said she wanted us to know that the table that we were at had another reservation waiting for it and to let her know when we left. There was a table next to us that had never been seated the entire time we were there. We have been to restaurants all over to eat and I have never been told to basically get up and leave, while waiting on food!!! That was beyond rude. I never saw her outside helping any of the wait staff the entire time we were there. The food here is a 10 the customer service is a 2. It's a beautiful restaurant with great food, but their customer service let us down. For starters, we had a 9 top table and they brought us 4 slices of bread for the table. I'm like can we get enough bread for everyone to have at least have 1 slice, they said no, more bread is extra. So fine, we paid for more bread for the table. Others in the restaurant had a 1 top table and they also got 4 slices of bread. Next, we had a baby in our large group, we called ahead and got reserved a table. They sat us outside in the only area with no shade. When I asked to move us somewhere else in the shade they refused stating it was impossible. See the below attached picture, I counted 15 open tables in the shade. We were almost the only ones there. We got there before 5:00 and still no was the answer. When your group spends close to $1000.00 on a dinner and you include 20% gratuity in the bill one expects a certain level of customer service that was not provided. They tried to cheap out where they should not have. They sat the large group in the worst possible location in the restaurant and refused to help us sit in a place that was better or at least in the shade for our group and still charged us a 20% gratuity, it was laughable. It was not the waiters fault, she did a good job. Management here needs to read a self help book about how to treat their customers because they have lost their way. They ruined what could have been a magical evening. Shame on you! read more

TERRIBLE HOSTING STAFF! Skip this restaurant they don't deserve your $$$$. The chefs and waiters were good. But we had a terrible experience getting seated. My Dad is 80 years old and they gave us a bad table for an elder with a cane. They sat us at a 2 person table against a wall and THEN gave teenagers 4 teens at a 6 top after we questioned them on it. Thinking about my elder Dad and his accessibility I requested a more accessible table for him. They straight up were like "no"....even though their restaurant was empty and tons of tables available. The hostess was a bratty 18-20 year old host was incompetent, had zero empathy, and respect for elders. Multiple hosting staff, am assistant Managers came over and were just as terrible echoing "no" and making a scene about an accessibility request. INSANE! I say fire the hosting and management staff. Keep the waiters and chefs. A restaurant will never survive hiring incompetent staff like that.... This is not simply a matter of courtesy-it touches on compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which requires businesses to make reasonable modifications to serve patrons with mobility impairments. Failing to do so can be considered discriminatory. I WILL NEVER go here again, despite the food being decent for Port St Joe....which doesn't say much. read more

Absolutely beautiful aesthetic, picturesque in every way. Beautiful lighted trees in the back with a huge porch & fire pit. Inside has a gorgeous design. Absolutely breathtaking. The staff was attentive & appropriate for the environment. The food was fabulous & though much more was tried than pictured, it was all phenomenal, no disappointments. We did have an issue with a moscow mule that was ordered as it was on the menu & we were disappointed it did not have ginger beer in it. However they quickly attempted to make it right even though they did not have any ginger beer. Other than this little hiccup we enjoyed our time immensely & it seems this immaculate restaurant is exactly what this small town needed to spice it up & bring people in from all around!!!! I had the tuna salad and my daughter had Parmesan baked oysters. They were both very good. The waitress service was great and we didn't have to wait long for our food. Make reservations and even then you may have to wait. We had to wait almost 20 minutes for our reservation.
