UPDATE: The Wheel Inn is a pub and restaurant in the picturesque village of Ticknall. The off road car park is of a medium size but fills up very quickly. The car park leads straight into the bar area, which has a very contemporary feel, bold and bright colours with a mixture of different types of seating including luxuriant sofas, perfect for a relaxing drink. The upstairs restaurant has a similar feel, bold colours, spacious wooden seating and large floral prints on the walls. We visited on the off chance they had a free table on a Saturday night, they did, we got the last table in the bar! The menu has a good variety of dishes from steaks, fish dishes to vegetarian options. There is however, also a copious board of daily specials. After we decided that we could probably eat any of them, they looked so tempting, we decided on the Duck Faggots with mashed potato, onion gravy and fresh seasonal vegetables, and the Flounder with chips and seasonal vegetables. Whilst the dishes took about half an hour to arrive, they were definitely worth the wait. The faggots were full of flavour, completed perfectly by the creamy mash and crunchy vegetables. My wife's flounder was an entire fish, with a copious serving of hand-cut chips, another great dish. Of course you've got to have a dessert after such a great meal, its name 'Chocolate Junkyard' chocolately mousse, biscuit base, topped with flecks of Snickers, accompanied by vanilla ice cream. Two strong cups of coffee to round off the meal, and a resolution to return very soon! The Wheel Inn is a great place to have a relaxing and tasty meal, for a decent price. read more
