We came here fresh from the ferry and were told the room wasn't ready, so we came back again an hour before check-in and it still wasn't ready. So then we had lunch and came in after check-in, and it was ready. To all the people who tell me you can check into hotel's early... I think you're crazy; this has happened to me maybe twice in my entire life and yet some friends claim they can do it almost every time? Methinks not.
PROS:
-Free linens and towels provided.
-Neat, tidy room.
-Awesome location, near downtown, so it's near a bunch of restaurants, pubs, etc.
-The breakfast was effing fantastic!! I can't express how delicious it was, because it really was just so so delicious.
-I loved how personable the owner was, he even talked to us after we checked in, and subsequent days to make sure our stay was going well.
-Pub downstairs is delightful; small and intimate.
CONS:
-On a bit of the small side, while the one double bed was fine for two people who were never in the room, if you're making plans to be in the room a lot, it won't work for you. It was a bit crammed with us, plus 2 weeks of luggage.
-While there WAS wifi, it was super spotty. Occasionally working, and other times not being read at all by our phones. (I've noticed this to be pretty common in accommodations like this.)
-Extremely hot inside. I woke up several times just because I was sweating so much.
THE VERDICT:
There's a neat little pub downstairs, and two restaurants here. I sort of wish we had come back for dinner, as the breakfast was amazing. The room we got was a single double bed, so pretty small but able to fit the two of us on there. It wasn't terribly comfortable, but it was adequate for two petite women on the smaller side. As far as I could see, there was no AC, but there was a window that partially opened but it still didn't manage to circulate air or cool off the room much. I noticed on the website that for this particular room, it mentions that there IS an AC, but we searched our room and were incredibly hot so maybe it was busted when we were there? The second night, we found a fan tucked away in a cabinet, and yet... There was actually no way to position the fan or place it somewhere where it would blow on us at night; the best we could get was it sort of blowing on my shoulder. Neat, tidy room, it included internet and a flat-screen TV we did not use, as well as a private bathroom.
Now let me tell you about the breakfast... If you're on the fence, GET IT. It was included in the Expedia booking we did, and It ended up being some of the most delicious food I've ever eaten in my life, much less in the UK. And I'm SUPER into food, so I've eaten at a lot of great places. The first morning, I got a full English breakfast, and it was just so incredibly delicious. The second morning, I got Eggs Royal, and it was also amazing. I'm so glad we stayed here, just for that delicious food! read more
