Looking outside it looked like a great pub so we decided to go in and get some food. Expecting traditional good quality food, we were very disappointed at what was served to us.
I ordered fish and chips, which cost around £10. The food was obviously very cheap and looked exactly the same quality of a kebab takeaway shop. No overstatement! The fish was overcooked and tasteless and so were the chips.
My girlfriend ordered mac cheese for around £8. She said, unfortunatly, it was the worst mac cheese she'd ever had. A worse quality than tesco microwavable mac cheese. There was little pasta in the dish and was swamped with runny cheese sauce and a thick layer of stodgy melted cheese to top. She's a fan of stodgy tasty food but this just tasted cheap. The salads consisted mainly of limp lettuce and onion..
All served to us by a teenage 'chef' dressed in tracksuit bottoms, although well mannered.
We were in the pub at about 6pm, at that time the pub was empty other than the 2 teenage bar girls who spent their time chatting to their friends who'd come in for a drink. No sign of management at any point.
I ordered a Jeremiah Weed beer which was served to me in the bottle, and not offered the cool Jeremiah Weed 'Jam Jar' glass to have it in. I checked and they did have many of the said glass hanging from the bar.
Furthermore, when my girlfriend asked if the mushroom risotto was suitable for veggies the bar girl went to the kitchen and returned only to tell us that they dont know.. it just comes in a pack.
From the outside, the place looks like a quality traditional pub, the service and food, on our visit, was very disappointing. I feel cheated spending £10 on a dish that probably cost them £2 to get in. read more
