I really wanted to be able to give this place 4 or 5 stars. The location is spectacular, right on the waterfront, and the views from the 1st floor are wonderful. The pub also has a great atmosphere and was quite full when I visited with colleagues on a Thursday evening.
Fundamentally, the place is let down by the food and in the case of our visit, the service. The choice of starters is limited. Two of the five main starter choices are mushroom based, with soup and two seafood options making up the remaining three. Not particularly diverse. The mains are standard pub fare and to be honest, not exciting.
Service was a great disappointment. The starter for one of our group was clearly forgotten and eventually turned up 3 minutes before the mains. Drinks orders were taken, only to be chased 10 minutes later with drinks eventually arriving some 15 minutes after ordering. And a dessert order was forgotten, by which point we'd given up on the whole thing. I know large groups can be challenging to manage but we had booked ahead so should have been expected.
Great location but on this occasion, poor food and service let the whole thing down. read more
