Yet another good olde English Pub…read more This pub is just down the road from my grandma's house, so I have taken her here a couple of times. The food is A-OK, and good value. My grandma always seems to go for the fish and chips which is huuuuge and comes with mushy peas. Last weekend I had the 'sizzling salmon' from the specials and it was gorgeous - served on a pile of red peppers and caramelised onion with huge potato wedges and salad. The best things about this pub, are the friendly staff and the views of the sea/boats out of the window. I was also impressed that my round of drinks for four people cost less than a tenner!! I've never tried the deserts as grandma always wants to make us some kind of sweet-thing before we head home... this time I was so full, I couldn't even eat grandma's waffles! It must've been good!

Friendly service and good beer were complemented by some fine food, possibly a little pricey for a pub but well worth it. Breaded mushrooms and breaded whitebait for starters were in plentiful supply and went down well; the grilled gammon also disappeared with some speed though by this time my companion was flagging and had to leave some chips. I did better, my sirloin steak being one of the best I've ever eaten tender, succulent and cooked exactly as I like it, a little to the rare side of medium rare. I was eventually defeated though, and also had to leave some of the splendid chips despite my best efforts not to. Added to a couple of pints of rather nice beer, George Gale's 'Seafarers' bitter', this all made for a very pleasant evening. Definitely somewhere to visit again if I'm in the area.

It is also great because you can book which means unlike other carvery's you don't have to wait an hour in the bar area to get served on a Sunday. The price on Sunday is £8.90. This is one serving of meat but unlimited veg and other items. In with the other items are sausages wrapped in bacon. So if like my partner you can eat loads after one dinner you can get another and use the sausages wrapped in bacon as your meat! Desserts are not fantastic but are good as are the Irish coffee's! Weekends are very lively and there is always something going on. Monkeys fist ropes hang from above the bar so that you can steady yourself after a few too many (genius!)
