This is a nice hotel right in downtown Calgary. This hotel lives up to the brand's good reputation. The room was comfortable and satisfactory with quality bedding though it wasn't the most spacious two twin bed room and the same can be said for the bathroom. Their location is very convenient particularly for tourists as it is within an easy 10 minute walk to the vibrant and popular Stephen Ave Walk restaurant and shopping district. Our tour group also enjoyed a nice, enjoyable, and very good dinner that included 2 drinks (I had the merlot on hand), a salad, a beef short rib entree, a dessert, and a decaf coffee. Their breakfast buffet was also top quality and satisfying. Overall, this Westin provided for a very satisfactory one night stay for us and I'll go with 4.5 rounded up to 5 stars. read more

So glad we stayed here for our one night in Calgary! The airline lost my luggage so I had nothing, and when it was mentioned to the lady at the front desk, she gave me a goody bag with necessities (toothbrush, toothpaste, mouthwash, razor, shaving cream etc). She was the sweeter and truly incredible. The hotel itself was in a good location and was super clean! Had on site parking, and everything worked out well. This hotel is in a great location in downtown Calgary. I stayed here during winefest as I was working a booth there. The hospitality of the staff is awesome. They are helpful when you need help and so great at recommending places. A lot of airline pilots were staying at this hotel and that's always a good sign. They have a Starbucks in the lobby which is awesome for breakfast. They also have a restaurant in the lobby as well, the Keg!! The food is delicious in both spots. Parking is available for $40 a day for valet or $30 a day for self park underground. It is safe and secure in this hotel and walking distance to so many things!! Highly recommend this hotel if you're looking to stay in downtown Calgary in all the action. read more

Came here for the Stampede and everybody was decked out in cowboy stuff, from the janitorial staff on up. How fun! A Stampede info desk was located right near the elevators for easy assistance figuring out the events. The gym and pool are in the penthouse of the other tower - it feels awkward to have to walk through the lobby to go workout but there's a secret back channel via the 2nd floor (skybridge level) to avoid being awkward. Great views from the pool over the city! The room itself in the older building faces toward the Eau Claire Mall, not much to look at otherwise. It was a comfortable stay in any case. The internet is sufficiently fast for Zoom meeting and the staff was super accomodating for my late checkout so that I could attend a noon zoom meeting before heading back to the airport. read more

Valet driver hit a pole with my truck and now their insurance company wants me to go through my personal insurance where I am considered at fault because I allowed a valet driver to drive my vehicle. The only way is to pay out of pocket and the Westins insurance company then chooses what to reimburse me for. I have been quoted by two auotbody shops and there is at least 12000 damage and 2- 2 month rental vehicle required. For the size of the company I have no idea why they just can't fix the damage they caused and pay for what they have damaged. I am not asking for anything but for them to pay for the damages and not go through my insurance. read more

As a frequent traveller I visit the Westin Calgary often. Every time you are welcomed in a very personal way and all staff are very friendly. Recently Bless (front office) remembered my birthday and surprised me with a birthday cake! It doesn't get more personal than that! This is a busy Westin in downtown Calgary with city views and an ideal location to walk to restaurants, shops and the nearby Bow river. They offer valet parking or self-park, which is an underground parking garage connected to the hotel. Just off the lobby, they have a Starbucks and also a restaurant and bar that stays open late. This hotel is large, but caters to airport employees and has contracts with numerous hockey teams so depending on when you visit, you may not get your first choice requests. I was most impressed with Faiz Habib, who helped check me in on Christmas Eve, and also some of the other employees we interacted with. They are kind, helpful and very cheerful. Due to the number of people in our party prior to arrival, we first requested 1 room with two double beds and a cot. We called nearly 2 months before arrival and were told they don't offer cots. Later, I came to find out that was untrue. However, we booked two connecting rooms with two double beds in each. When I arrived, Faiz explained he didn't have connecting rooms with two double beds in each room at the standard rates. He explained our options clearly and we made our choice and a cot was delivered to our room. The second time we stayed there, a week later, the hockey teams were also there, and although we put in our requests over 2 months ago, we were not so lucky to get two connecting rooms at the standard prices, instead they only had a suite room, which was very large with a patio and TV built into the bathroom mirror, connected to a standard room, which would cost extra. So, keep in mind, if you have complicated requests like we did, they may not be honored. Overall though, we enjoyed our stay here and would visit again. read more

Solid high class business hotel in the heart of downtown Calgary. Stayed here on the very last night of our 9 day Canadian Rockies trip. Unlike where we stayed the previous 3 nights, at the 100 year old Fairmont Banff Springs and Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise, this was not an historic hotel, but a modern business hotel. 20 story skyscraper hotel with interior corridors. Calgary has long cold harsh winters, so no balconies, except for the corner suites for the fat cats! Our room on the 3rd floor faced the river, and away from the traffic on the streets below. We were too low to see the river, and had a close view of the building roofs of nearby buildings, hemmed in by even taller skyscrapers, marred by smoke from late summer forest fires. Two queen beds, with a large window, strong AC, multi prong electrical outlets right on the desk, 40+" flat screen HD cable TV, free and stable wifi, electronic safe, mini refrigerator, but no microwave. Expensive looking furniture, elegant floor fixtures and lamps. Spacious room, with dresser, counter space, night stands, sitting chair, daytime and blackout curtains, bath robes, deep bathtub. Large bathroom has 1970s sink countertop type, instead of granite. Very comfortable bed, easy to fall asleep, with minimal outside noise. Did not get a chance to use the indoor heated pool, nor the fitness center. Large lobby area to wait for rooms, business center to print out boarding tickets, multiple conference rooms, several pricey restaurants on ground floor -your business picks up the tab! Inexpensive $1.75 CAD soda machine on ground floor. Exemplary service by all uniformed hotel employees, who were approachable, friendly, knowledgeable, courteous, and went out of their way to be helpful, even to me in my T-shirt, shorts and sandals. Walked 4 blocks and 10 minutes to the Eau Claire Mall. The buffet breakfast was not part of our stay, so ate breakfast at Horton's across the street, lunch at the Spaghetti factory 3 blocks away, and dinner at Joey Eau Claire 4 blocks away. Walked a mile to Glenbow Museum. Wanted to see the Military Museums, but no easy transportation to get there, 4 miles away, taxi $26 CAD before tip. No Yelp in Calgary. Standard rooms run about $140 USD in low season October, but soar up to $432 USD during the Calgary Stampede in July. Interior pedestrian walkways connecting to other buildings across the street, handy in the long harsh snowy winters. Would stay here again, preferably during the international fireworks convention displays in late August, 2018. A 1pm checkout arranged in advance by our tour group, prior to our ride to the airport, so that we wouldn't get thrown out on the street at 11:01am! read more

In Calgary for work and overnighted at the Westin. This is an older hotel right in downtown Calgary. The location is great if you need to be in downtown Calgary. There were positives and negatives on this stay. The rooms are quite small but well furnished with good quality beds. The fitness area was in a separate tower with only one functioning elevator. My bathroom was so small that I had challenges maneuvering around the position of the toilet. And there was a loud fan that started up, would run for 10 minutes then shut down for 10 minutes. And it cycled like this...all night long. It was not a positive experience and I have no plans to return to the Westin, the next time I have to overnight in Calgary. read more

The hotel is in downtown Calgary, dining choice can be sparse during the weekends, so I just ate at the hotel. The food was excellent. Hotel is modern and rooms are very large. When you see Westin, you generally know and expect quality and this one is no different. We stayed at the Westin due to a pitstop in Calgary and since my friend was a SPG member. Check-in was seemless and straightforward from valet to getting our cards. There are SPG floors and we managed to have a corner room that was spacious and complete with a living room area in front of the beds, a balcony, and a fairly big bathroom that had a TV in the bathroom mirror! Some other perks included waters and this lavender essence oil one can apply to themselves. Sadly no mini-bar. Breakfast, depending on your room, may or may not be included. Location is good as its walkable to the fanfare and good restuarants around 3rd. Overally, a nice pretty luxurious stay. read more

Good Location! Near Prince's Island Park and Eau Claire Market (just a couple blocks away)... and then a few more blocks (maybe like 4-5) in the other direction is the popular shopping avenue (aka 8th Avenue / Stephen Avenue) which is then not far from the Calgary Tower. All very walkable. Good Room! Good space so that we didn't seem like we were on top of each other. Nice bathroom size that we could both have our own little space. Beds were comfy, and the air temp was easy to control. There was a mini fridge in our room too. Good Service! Folks at the desk were nice and professional... they weren't gooey sweet, but they weren't stiff either. They seemed relaxed and confident... a good combination to answer questions and deal with people efficiently all day long. Taxis were queued up, and at our service as soon as we asked the valet/bell folks. Good Food! Breakfast was included as part of our stay. The buffet was very good! They had a cold section that included fruits, breads, cereals, yogurt and hard boiled eggs. All were fresh. And then they had a hot area including made-to-order eggs. Everything was prepared nicely and wasn't stale or dried out. The chef even came out to say "hi" and speak with everyone for a brief time to get their feedback, and be on hand should there be any questions or concerns. The main restaurant, The Keg - serves food at the bar so this was easy and nice as we didn't really want to do a "whole dinner" thing. We just wanted a drink and a couple appetizers... Perfect at the bar! Bartender was very nice and had good timing on helping everyone....He never stopped moving, but he never showed a moment of rush or stress. Nice rooms, comfy beds, decent sized bathroom. The staff were all polite, and helpful. The views are okay, it's downtown so you're mostly looking at other buildings. There are two restaurants and a spa here along with a gym and pool. Room service offers plenty to choose from too. I like the Westin's as they tend to be clean and cozy. This was is a bit smaller in terms of the rooms than some of the others I had stayed at. But the proximity to spots downtown is perfect and it's connected to the +15s. I'be loved Westin not just bc of their most comfortable bed, but they're awesome consistency of great customer service. The rooms smells good and super clean, so kudos for the housekeeper. The amenities are superb. I asked if they have a microwave where I could heat up my food bc I just wasn't in the mood to go out right away bc I was just too tired since I woke at 3am that morning and needed a quick nap. They've came to my room and brought me a microwave. The hotel is centrally located to all of what you love. Food and shopping! China town is just right around the corner and Starbucks is right downstairs. Hotel has tunnels that connect to other buildings all the way to shopping and restaurants so you don't need to walk in the cold if it winter time or hot on summer time. We just completed a week long stay at the Westin. Overall the hotel is nice and staff friendly. However they have a MAJOR problem with key card system, we literally had to visit the front desk on a daily basis to have our keys rescanned. It got so bad we asked for 8 room keys to be scanned because one key would work on the elevator to select our floor but then not a single key would work on our room. Occasionally we couldn't even use the elevator, it was extremely aggravating and they kept blowing us off by saying we must have kept the keys near our phone or credit cards etc- however with 8 keys, we deliberately kept them in different pockets away from anything else and it was still an issue. Almost each time we had to visit the front desk, there was another guest doing the same thing, so clearly a bigger issue. One smaller complaint we also had, when we requested some extra hangers- they showed up with a messy pile of wired hangers. Not exactly the type of hanger or level of service we have ever experienced at a Westin property. Unfortunately we don't plan on returning for our next two trips into Calgary this month- purely as a result of the nightmare room key situation. We just don't have the desire to be running up and down from our room to get our keys to work. read more

My Company's Regional HQ is right across the street, which makes this Hotel a very convenient place to stay. And from the time one of the nice guys in Western wear greet you at the front door, you know that you're home in Calgary. I have stayed here many times over the years and through various refurbishments, the Lobby area, Service, and the rooms have really improved over an already high standard. At the same time, if you want a little more room and luxury, go over to Sheraton Suites (a sister property) just down the street. In any event, you're close to downtown, a stroll along the Mighty Bow, and a hike over to Kensington. read more

Not my first stay but definitely my last. Checked in after a 9 hour flight from Europe, front desk girl could have cared less about customer service. We had two rooms, one of our party's room had dog food sitting on top of the fridge, our room was an upgraded "suite" with an adjoining door in which we could hear a baby screaming (not the babies fault) but there was no buffer between the rooms. Another couple was trying to move rooms because of the same situation. We were moved to another "suite" where we could hear a group of partying girls. And the smell of marijuana permeated the hallway. The rooms are very dated, dingey and dirty for a Westin, the patio was filthy with no where to sit. We had to call for extra slippers and in room dining menu as neither was in room. The in room dining menu is rather lacking, very poor choices. The coffee was terrible and old and breakfast was disgusting. Was brought to the room in a paper bag. As a bonvoy elite member would definitely never recommend this property to anyone. read more

Not a bad Westin, just not anything you would want to write about. They recently redecorated the hotel, so its quite pleasant inside. A couple of decent restaurants (Keg, Ki) and a Starbucks moved next door, so the morning coffee and after flight meal is sorted. The rooms are always quiet, very clean and have a nice ensuite, comfy bad and flat screen. Then again, its around $400 per night and the building is rectangular, gray and exposed concrete. read more

The things I liked about this place included the central location, friendly staff, cleanliness, and the nice rooms. The only two things I noticed that could be improved were if they offered an airport shuttle, and if their bathroom products (like the shampoo) were more natural and eco-friendly- with less unpronounceable ingredients. My friend and I stayed at the Westin in downtown Calgary for one night last weekend. We paid $150 (tax included) for a standard room with two queen beds. For being right downtown (literally a block from Eau Claire Market), and for being a last minute booking during Folk Festival weekend this wasn't a bad deal. Checking in the reservation was quick and easy, and the lady at the front desk was really nice. Westin charges for in-room wifi, but if you are a Starwood Preferred Member (their loyalty club, it's free to join) you get free wifi in your room for 4 devices. The hotel room itself was nice. The view wasn't anything amazing, but I don't really care about that (mostly saw construction and a parking lot, but you could kind of see some of Eau Claire Market). The beds were super comfortable, and the decor was light and modern. The bath product line the Westin uses, has a really nice green tea scent and isn't too perfumey. One thing that was weird about the room was the bathroom. There was no door for the bathroom, which I'm not sure if this was an intentional choice or if a door hasn't been installed. Instead, right before the bathroom is the closet with a sliding pocket door that you can close. So if you need to use the washroom you have to walk into the closet, close the door (if was very heavy and hard to move) and then do what you gotta do. The closet door doesn't lock either. For a night this was fine, but I would be curious to know if all the rooms in the Westin have this odd setup, or if it was just our room (1024). Safety and security in the hotel was quite good. It's on a pretty main street (4th) downtown, and felt safe. The room doors have the standard lock and bolt, there's an in room safe. Plus you need a room key to access any of the guest floors in the elevator. There's a Starbucks in the lobby, but it was closed by 5pm so we were not able to use it. They also have a Keg and another restaurant, but there are a lot of other restaurants nearby if you don't want to stay in the hotel. One thing that did cause a little issue for my friend and I was the parking. Parking is available in an underground parkade, and when we went in it said all vehicles need to have a ticket. So we bought a ticket for the weekend and paid at the machine. Our room had express checkout, but I wanted to verify charges on our bill (always a good idea) and was told the hotel charges for parking, we didn't need to pay at the pay stations in the parkade. It was a bit confusing, because there are no signs anywhere in the parkade saying that hotel guests will be charged parking in the room rate, and that they just need to register their vehicle. We were able to get the Westin parking charges removed, since I paid about the same amount at the paystation as I would have if the hotel had charged us. read more

I have stayed at the Starwood and Fairmont at Calgary and this one is certainly the newer hotel of the lot. It's at a nice convenient location (the others are too). Service is fast and the staff is friendly. The Keg Restaurant is next to the hotel and is a nice place to dine in. There's a StarBucks down too and there are a set of taxis waiting downstairs (even if you prefer Uber it is faster). Overall, a good place to stay. read more

Wow - after a really awful week I canceled all of my future stays here and will now split my time between the Sheraton Suites and the Cavalier. My inbound flight misconnected in Seattle, and I missed the last flight of the day to Calgary... Of course this was past the cancellation window, no worries - rules are rules, I'll pay for an empty room in Calgary and stay with friends in Seattle, at least I'll have a place to drop off my bags and have a quick shower before showing up 4 hours late to my client... Little did I know... I showed up at 11am and attempted to checkin - "Im sorry Mr. Allen, we don't have any rooms ready" ... Really? You charged me for one last night, maybe I can get a key for that one? ... She mumbles about the cancelation policy... "Look, I don't need an upgrade or anything, I just want to drop off my bags and shave" .. "Again sir, I'm sorry but we don't have any rooms available, I could give you a key for the gym and you could shave in the locker room? I stayed at this hotel weekly for most of 2009, we're talking at least 90 nights, and I'm shaving by the pool. Awesome. The icing on the cake came later in the week though - it was raining and I asked a bellhop for an umbrella - "no problem"... an hour or two later I needed to run up and grab something from my room; I was stopped at the door: "Need to take your umbrella sir" "Oh that's fine, I'm just running up to get something in my room and I'll be back out in 3 minutes" "Sorry but you need to leave the umbrella here" "What if another guest comes and takes it?" "Well then you're out of luck, umbrellas are first come first serve" This guy seemed to be confused by the whole 'doormen' concept - at nightclubs doormen are free to be pricks and abuse guests... at hotels doormen are paid to suck up to guests and carry their luggage. Compare that exchange to 3 weeks ago at the St Regis Washington DC - I came in for the night and attempted to give the umbrella back to the doorman, he said with a smile "please feel free to hang onto it sir, it might rain tomorrow" I want to like the Westin Calgary, hence not deleting the positive aspects of my previous review, but some of the frontline employees at this property need to find employment outside of the hospitality industry. read more

I stayed in a room in the Business Tower for two nights over a weekend. The breakfast buffet (which you pay for) is at Essence and its terrific! Ahhh I loved the buffet so much. The staff were very kind and did everything they could to make my stay pleasant. I found the downtown area to be pretty dead in the daytime on the weekends. The parking isn't included in the rate, but interestingly enough you get free long-distance calls anywhere in North America if you stay in the Business Tower. From what I understand, the rooms in the older tower are pretty outdated. read more

Continuing my tour of Calgary hotels, I had the pleasure of spending a night at the Westin on New Years Eve. They were hosting a party that I attended with some friends and offered a reduced rate to anyone who was going to it. I thought this was an innovative way to show some responsibility and try to cut back on the number of drunk drivers. Good on the Westin. I was however, honestly underwhelmed with the hotel itself. There was nothing glaringly wrong but some of the facilities left something to be desired when this place is being marketed as high-end venue. First off, the pool was gross. We had arrived early to take advantage of the hotel's facilities and part of me honestly wishes we hadn't. None of the in-pool lights worked and since the room mostly relies upon natural lighting, this was somewhat unpleasant once the sun started going down. The level of chlorine in the pool was also definitely too high. Even after showering, my friend and I both felt itchy and had red blotches from the harsh water. The party venue later in the evening was incredibly boring. I know a lot of decorating is up to those hosting an event. However the hall itself couldn't have been more generic if they tried. The pizza buffet was also really gross. Finally, I HATE hotels that charge extravagant fees for wireless Internet access. If I can go to Starbucks for a $5 coffee and use free wifi, it shouldn't cost me $12.95/day to use the Internet when I've already paid for a room. I get that you might have to charge for security purposes, but that much is ridiculous. read more

Unbelievable friendliness and service at this hotel. Amazing people from valet to housekeeping. But one person made our trip unforgettably relaxing. Max at the front desk is the kind of person I would hire to be the face of my business. We had come to Canada for my wife's 30th birthday and travelled all over Alberta for 5 days with our young baby. As anyone knows, traveling with a baby is an experience. Our two nights at the Westin was the bookend to an amazing trip. The valet was more than helpful with our mountains of luggage. Housekeeping has already prepped our room with a crib and we were set to go We came well before the normal check in time but max made sure that he did everything he could to expedite getting our room ready. He kept us in informed and let us know places to go in the meantime. He watched over us to make sure our baby wasn't getting impatient by bringing him some crayons and a coloring book. Everyday in the morning he was there to greet us and for such a huge hotel that was hosting several conventions, max made us feel like home and that the hotel wanted us to know we were not just a room number. read more

I need to be upfront with this review. I am a Starwood Preferred Guest and generally choose to stay in Westin and Sheraton Hotels in North America. I also need to declare my interest and knowledge of the hotel industry. I have worked for a five star hotel group, and have developed five star quality hotels in Africa and Europe. I am therefore very tough on hotels when I experience bad service. Hotel Service is a direct reflection on the quality and attitude of the Manager. lousy manager, lousy staff, and a lousy experience. The Westin Calgary is a fabulous hotel. Well managed, well run, with great staff. It's probably one of the best located downtown hotels, with easy walking access to restaurants, businesses and cultural facilities. Walking around downtown is the most important consideration when I choose a hotel. They have wonderfully large contemporary rooms, and have very comfortable beds, pillows and mattresses. I judge hotels by the quality of the mattress and the pillow! Also the HVAC system is crucial to my comfort. No screaming and vibrating fan coil units in the ceilings. And no sound transfer as a result of guests slamming their doors when they return from The French Maid at two o'clock in the morning. They describe their beds as "heavenly" and I agree, the experience I have with Westin, is usually heavenly! An added bonus is having the best Keg in Calgary attached to the hotel (will review separately) and those who want to feel special and superior, can drop downstairs for an over-roasted and overpriced coffee at Starbucks. A great hotel and highly recommended by a seasoned travellor. read more

The hotel is quite new and there is a Keg that is right attached in the lobby. Another plus is that there is a Ki right beside the Keg you can go to if you feel like sushi instead of steak. I love the Ki in Toronto and tried in here with the bf and loved it too! The only reason why I gave it 4/5 is because of the location...if the hotel was more downtown, it would be perfect! Very comfortable beds. Freezing lobby, but pleasant front desk staff. Our conference breakfasts were rather lame, but I'm not sure if that was the conference organizer's selection or the available options. The buffet items at lunch were good, and the evening tapas had a nice variety of choices. Quick room service, reasonably good choice and quality for the in room menu. Unreliable Internet, regularly lost connection and asked to pay more than once after signing up for a multiple-day package. They comped the Internet when I let them know, but as a business traveller with tight deadlines this service is critical. read more

3 dogs, 2 adults and walking distance to everything. Prices are high but summer in YYC is crazy anyway. Decent room, clean and modern. Construction made parking a bit weird but valet was courteous and quick. Check in was a bit slow bit a lot of people were there for some reason. Close to some great restaurants. Duration of Stay: 2 nights Floor: 16 (SPG floor) Connected to the +15. Consistently Westin. Heavenly bed and clean renovated rooms. They have ear plugs and a cute note booming Calgary business. My favourite things that I have not seen anywhere else, is the shower - where the lever to turn on the shower is on the side wall, so you don't end up getting sprayed with cold water when you turn the shower on! (might be a little confusing reading this, but sure you will understand when you see it!) TIP: They have a great Green program here, where you can get 500 Starwood points (or $5 off food/beverage - but the starpoints are a better deal) for each night that you do not need housekeeping, which is very easy to do for one person (there's more than enough towels!) and I usually don't like anyone in my room anyways, when my clothes are flung everywhere! You just have to be sure to hang the notice on your door, in exchange for a voucher to tuck in with your room key at express check out! They actually still refilled my complimentary bottled water, but left everything else alone. read more

I will have to say that of all of the Westin's I have stayed at this one is pretty middle of the pack. There isn't a whole lot that is super flashy about the place and it actually reminds me more of a Sheraton than a Westin. There are a couple of redeeming qualities. First of all it is in a great location. Not too far from much of anything and close to some nice outdoor cafes. As stated before the breakfast is great as well. Finally, while much may not be open late the staff at Keg is open until early morning and are more than happy to put up with you and your group. If you are looking for a nice place to stay this is a good one. While it may not be a W it certainly has all of the trademarks that makes Westin a great place to stay. And they have a Starbucks! read more
