One woman at the front desk actually sighed when we walked in... spoke to us like we had personally offended her, and wouldn't repeat herself despite us asking different questions. She then proceeded to give me such issues with my service dog that we debated leaving. I understand the stigma around PETS in hotels but when you have all documentation and behavior needed? It was wild. Employees could be trained to better handle those situations. If you have a service animal this is not the place for you. It's a bummer to see one employee cloud an experience. Otherwise room was okay, location was great, and downstairs parking felt secure. read more

By far dirtiest hotel ive ever been in, every extra sheet we got had stains and/or foreign materials. The stoves coil was popped out, the couch was outward when we arrived, and there was hairs in the bathroom. There were crumbs EVERYWHERE, even on the door handle. You could make a room made out of chewed up wax and it would look better than this hotel. 0/10 experience read more

This is a crap hole!! Dirtiest best western ever. Ceiling leaking, rooms are from the late 80's bubbling wallpaper everywhere which probably has mould underneath it only has two small elevators to get the whole building up and down just really really a bad property. I don't even understand how best Western can put their name on such a dump. I would definitely choose anything else, but this hotel. read more

Good location, friendly staff, and free parking. Rooms were nice and big with a kitchen. Mini fridge, microwave and sink. Beds were comfortable. Rooms were a big outdated though. Dark carpets, some holes in black out carpet and creaking bathroom doors. But everything was clean so that's good. Breakfast was whack though. One day they had pre made eggs wrapped in cheese to make something. Some people can't eat cheese. And it looks disgusting. Another day they had pre-made egg patties to make egg sandwiches. It was pretty bad. Location was great. You were a few blocks from 17th and walkable to Stephens walk. Very good for the price for rooms here. And very friendly staff. We were able too check in early too. read more

Best Western is usually a solid choice, but not in this case. The beds are hard as boards and I have a tension headache from sleeping here three days. That wouldn't be enough to warrant one star, but when we went to us the ice bucket there was remnants of throw up from a past guest. That was utterly disturbing. Continental breakfast was pretty good and the pillows were nice but that's about it in terms of positives. read more

its older. dated in the hallway. lobby is smallish. staff seems nice. out room is okay. king bed. bath tub. small fridge, coffee maker. nice view. 10th floor. 2 elevators. we are here for stampede, so it might be a bit more noise than normal, but not bad for a downtown hotel. bed is good. pillow good. room is spacious. price was good , considering inflation and demand and staff shortages. read more

I stayed here June 2018. The only reason this hotel gets a single star is because of its location. There a minor pros - free breakfast and free parking; however, this does take away from the fact this hotel is extremely overpriced for what you get and the level of service provided. I picked this hotel, because I was staying in Calgary for a month on business. Therefore, I wanted to be at a hotel where I didn't have to rely solely on eating out for every meal. That being said, the utensils supplied in the ketchup were inadequate, old, and lacking. There was no chopping board, no chef's knife, no cookie sheet for the oven....I'm not expecting anything fancy, but it should have the basics and none of the rooms had the basics. When I called down to management to ask for some of these items, I was told that they expected people to bring those items from home. If you're looking for a place in a good location and don't care about the comfort of your stay, then stay here. Otherwise, I recommend finding someplace else to spend your hard earned money on. read more

Great location and reasonable price for a hotel in Calgary. It's only a few blocks away from 17 Ave where you can find tons of restaurants, cafes and shops. Plenty of people watching to be had. Our room was clean & spacious and came with a kitchenette! Bonus for those who prefer to make their own meals while away. The rooms come with complimentary Continental breakfast and free parking! read more

Ambiance: Good Room: Good Service/Concierge: N/A (not used) Parking: Free Location: Average This place turned out to be a surprise. The location though farther from downtown is decent especially of you have access to a car. We were here during the holiday period and most of the hotels were charging a fortune for rooms. The rooms were quite nice with a good sized main room and a decent mini kitchen. The washroom was clean and a good size as well. There are plenty of dining options nearby so can't complain there. You can also walk to the main downtown drag if you are inclined. parking is free which is a huge plus given what you pay for it in downtown. I think its a decent bet for people staying long term or on a last minute getaway. read more

Don't be fooled by the exterior of this hotel. It looks like a high rise apartment and likely was at one time. The hotel staff are competent but not the friendliest. You need your room key to go up the elevator which I like the security. I've stayed in a few rooms including queen bed with a bathroom, sitting area, and a kitchenette with burners, microwave, and fridge. The other room was a 2 bedroom, bathroom, full kitchen with a stove and full sized fridge. The living room was big, with a sofa and tv. The larger room also had a tv. I really liked that there were temperature controls in both bedrooms and the living room. You can see into the office building across the street through the sheer curtains. The breakfast is enjoyable but you need your room key to get in. There's a selection of bread, english muffins, and pastries, fruit fresh and fruit salad, eggs, potatoes, and sausage (or bacon), cereal, waffle makers, selection of juices, coffee, and tea. The gym is in the basement and not heavy traffic. There are 2 treadmills, elliptical, bike, and weight machine. The free weights are in the sauna area. There are vending machines around, if you crave a late night snack. The location is close to restaurants, Safeway, and about a 10 min. walk from the train station. read more

The hotel is totally torn apart for renovations and loud teeth rattling jackhammering from 10-5pm. The lady at the desk made no attempt to communicate with all the noise and kept repeating "I cant hear you" and smirking. If you are considering a stay make sure you call them and this is over! She said no refunds with our booking for 4 days although we were not aware of these renovations. The noise is inescapable throughout the property. I called pricleline who I booked through and got a refund. HA! This place is in a decent location. And if the reno's are done may consider a budget stay, however the staff was very rude! read more

I stayed here for a week for work. Interesting layouts for rooms, they all have kitchenettes, which was nice. Really comfortable beds, workout room was ok. Breakfast was decent but some of the eggs were weird. Who puts cream cheese in an omelette?? Gross. The coffee was terrible. The hotel was pretty quiet and there's lots of parking underground and above. Staff leave something to be desired, pretty charmless service. Probably wouldn't stay here again. read more

This hotel in the heart of downtown by 17 Avenue SW is your best bet for service, rooms, price, location, and service. I made a (to me) very complicated reservation for a group coming in on different days on a Friday, Saturday girls' weekend with a suite booked, some double queen rooms booked, a king room booked, all on varying days, and they got it all right and NAILED it. I am SO IMPRESSED!!! read more

horrifying customer service, terrible response time, absolutely horrible management, zero empathy or consideration for children. not happy at all. careless with valuables, and rude. read more

Older property, looks a bit shabby on the outside, the inside is very clean, well kept, spacious and comfy. Superior location downtown Calgary, new brew-pubs, a great donut shop, coffee shops and hipster 17th. Easy parking, and a better breakfast than most B+W's. read more

I stayed here with a friend, when I visited Calgary earlier this year, and I really enjoyed my stay. I booked a room with two double beds online and got a decent price. When we arrived, the front staff was really courteous and helpful, and we had no problem with my reservation at all. The room was spacious and it came with a small kitchenette. The mini oven and sink were so cute! The decor in the room was quite nice. I liked the art that was hanging on the walls. It made me feel like I was at home, rather than in a hotel. There was wireless Internet in the room, and there was even a computer terminal with Internet in the lobby that you could use for free. The room was fairly clean, except for a really long hair in the bathtub. The beds were my favourite part. They were so comfortable, especially the overstuffed pillows and comforter! I wanted to take these home. Our room was facing the street, rather than the parking lot, so it was a bit noisy at night, especially during the weekend. This hotel is also in a shady area, but we didn't have any problems. We walked from our hotel to the downtown core, and this didn't take long at all. I was going to stay here again, when I was in Calgary last month, but unfortunately, it was all booked. read more

Got accused for making noise in the hallway with one warning, then if we had another warning we would be kicked out of the hotel. Very rude, not nice employees. Apparently everyone thinks they're paying for a quiet room in a hotel. HOTEL!! I am here paying money like the rest of the people here to work in this country. Thanks but no thanks first time in Calgary I will not forget. You. read more

St Patrick's evening down town and I new I didn't want to drive home after, so picked up a deal at the Best Western. Service was curt but effective and it does look worse on the outside than it actually is. Rooms are a good size with very nice firm beds. Breakfast and a workout room were a nice surprise. Free parking and decent internet access make this a bargain. This is great value and I would recommend it to all guests to Calgary. read more

I've spent many nights in downtown Calgary hotels, and Best Western Plus downtown has become my go-to favorite. I've probably stayed there 70 or more nights in the past 12 months. It's aging a bit, but it's well maintained and clean. The first thing I love is the staff. From the front desk to the housekeeping, everyone is friendly and work hard to ensure you have a great experience. It doesn't matter what hotel you choose, issues will occasionally arise, and at this hotel those issues are promptly resolved and the management and staff ensure you are completely satisfied. The free breakfast is consistent and good. The in-room internet is available as both wireless and wired, and I've never had any issues with the internet connection (and I'm a heavy business user). The hotel is conveniently located close enough to downtown Calgary that you can easily walk, and only a couple of blocks from the activity of 17th Avenue (plenty of great restaurants and night clubs) Great option if you need to be close to downtown, but don't want to pay the over priced downtown hotel rates. read more

Very clean, great service, a older but decently maintained. They have different things served for breakfast every day of the week & it's a pretty decent breakfast. Their kitchenettes are good, they provide the basic kitchen tools needed to throw together something to eat. read more

First off, either that's an old picture or someone snapped a generic one lol. I can assure you it's not as country-style like that; in fact, it's one of the older-style with brick facade all around. But the rooms are nice, as it is their "Plus" level, so a few more bells and whistles. Nice furnishings, wifi, breakfast and free, small gym/jaccuzzi, no pool, surface-parking only. IMHO, it doesn't feel as safe with minimal lighting but there's a camera. In the back, it's all apartments anyways. Nice seating area at lobby. At this time of year, it's $110 weekends, $127 weekdays. read more

Had a great stay here for two night! They upgraded me to a newer room so that I could stay with my friends on the same floor. Free wifi and parking. Free breakfast, not the best quality, but it's free! They are doing some construction to upgrade and can be noisy at times... I had to call down at 10pm because they had a drill going! And I had an early flight to catch! Noise stopped right away so thanks for the great service! read more

The Good: 1.CLEAN I have serious issues with cleanliness and organization. I am neurotic when it comes to sleeping in hotels. It usually takes one hour for me to inspect, disinfect, and organize everything. I turn the entire room upside down to ensure that there are no bed bugs (mattresses are flipped and furniture is moved). My face turned into a maniacal grin when I realized that the mattress was actually encased in a zippered cover. 2.ROOM The hotel is very clean and comes with a fridge, tiny stove, sink, and everything you need to make/eat a meal. Out of all the hotels we have stayed at in the last few years, this hotel had the best bed. It was unbelievably comfortable. 3. SERVICE I don't care how helpful the staff is because I come to a hotel to wind down at night and sleep, not make friends. The reception staff is average. The continental breakfast is great and the waffle machine is my new best friend (all hotels should have one). The staff that works in the dining room is phenomenal. The Bad: The internet connection is non-existent. It states that wi-fi is free but after my own experience and reading reviews online, there might as well be no wi-fi. It is slower than any dial-up connection I have ever used. read more

I arrived in town late and tired. We landed at this hotel and got a suite with a bath tub for two. It was better than expected. Rather than a simple room in a 5 star we got a suite in a 3-4 star and we were so happy. Bed is wonderful, two tvs kitchen king bed and the best tub EVER....we stayed in bed and bath all day! read more

Stayed here for a get away with friends on a Sunday night. Great location! Staff was very nice and efficient during both check in and check out. Our room was not ready so we got upgraded which made my day and after having been in the bigger suite, I think I'll book a few more stays at this hotel. Having a kitchen makes such a difference! Continental breakfast was an added bonus. The hotel is undergoing renovations and certain things seem a bit outdated However everything was clean and it had a friendly atmosphere. read more
