in early March of '24, I went to The Way Barber Academy for an inexpensive haircut and tok provide experience for the students. tudent gave me the trendy haircut of a 30-year-old guy. I am a conservative guy in his 60s, and I didn't want sides shaved short all the way up and long on top, a type of "Mohawk." Still, I was kind, paid for it, and tipped the student. To allow for some growth for possible fixing, I waited 3 weeks and called the owner to ask for a repair---a little blending and shortening of the top. He asked me to come in and he would fix it. Upon arrival, he said he doesn't cut hair; only the students cut hair. So, he assigned me a skilled student, who did a pretty good job of rectifying the blunder, though he did not shorten the top. Knowing this was a repair of a bad haircut and thinking the trim would be gratis, I tipped the student generously, but the owner still asked for a regular haircut payment. I paid it. The point is not that the haircuts there are cheap; the point is that one of the first things that should be taught to barbering students is that not all men want a young, trendy haircut, especially traditional seniors! Unbelievable. read more
