I've been out of ERA for 4 years now. I was there for 16 months and saw the program go through many changes so I think I can vouch for the genuine experience better than the parents reviewing this, whose children are simply telling them what they want to hear in order to come home. Not a single night goes by that I don't have nightmares about my time there. My peers and I were abused daily. Children as young as 12 cry themselves to sleep every night, only to wake up the next morning and repeat it all again. You are lucky if you see your therapist once during a week, and half of the rest of the staff are 20 year old college students at Dixie State. The vast majority of the staff who aren't college students are members of three extended families. This all leads to a complete and utter lack of accountability or even basic knowledge. One of the nurses was caught SAing multiple of the boys during my stay, and she simply quietly quit, no legal action, not even fired. Why? Because her mother is one of the therapists. There are many stories like this from my stay. Kids are pitted against each other to keep them in line; it truly is the ultimate panopticon. Any "progress" you see is simply the children being beaten into submission (sometimes literally). If you are a parent considering sending your child here, I BEG you not to. Consider intensive outpatient therapy instead, where your children will still be able to communicate with you if they are being abused. At ERA all of your child's communication is monitored and it is made abundantly clear to them that if they say anything negative, visits/calls will be immediately terminated. If you are a parent of a child currently attending ERA-- I'm sure you've been told all kinds of things about how your child will manipulate you to go home. Maybe you went to seminar 1 and they sold you hard enough to keep your kid there until they finish the program. I beg you to put deep thought into this. I know you sent your kid away because you love them, but I can promise you this is not the way to help them. I won't be surprised if they respond with some PR ad-hominem comment on this. I hope anyone reading this will take the time to genuinely consider what I have said. It haunts me every day that there are children still there suffering. I understand that you, as a parent, are doing everything you can for the child you love. Unfortunately, ERA has lied to you and taken advantage of that love. read more

I am a former student who graduated this program, and i would not recommend this program for any struggling child. My previous review was removed so don't trust the ratings, and my experience aligns with Bridgett's earlier review. The staff are untrained and unqualified, with high turnover and frequent abuse of power. One of the first goals of the program is breaking the students will to resist the program and follow the culture, however the lengths staff and the program will go to make students buy into the program are unhealthy, inherently manipulative and mentally traumatizing. For example, one such punishment is restricting diet to plain oatmeal for breakfast lunch and dinners until they comply to rules. They are also forced to strip naked and be subjected to a visual cavity search by an adult staff upon arrival to prevent contraband, and all manner of humiliation rituals are common as learning exercises to make the student receptive and compliant to the ERA program or staff's instructions. These harsh measures leave the child with few options but to fake accepting the program and better behavior to convince parents to let them back home asap. meanwhile they are surrounded by fellow troublemakers who they can learn further tricks from and laws to break once released. Students physically fighting eachother or staff is common, with one of the few trainings staff undergo being how to grab and pin a students arm painfully without leaving bruises as evidence. Before sending your child here speak personally to an adult former student to see if this is your only option for changing their environment and situation, as i promise signing away parental rights to an out of state institution is not the 1st, 3rd, or 10th best place to look unless legally forced here to avoid jail. I left here 7 years ago and still occasionally have nightmares of abandonment and wanting to Go home.. this place is truly traumatizing even in my adult life and insane to even think about. My mind has blocked as much of my 18 month experience out as it can, just give your kids attention, that was the stem of all my issues that ended me up there was my parents didn't give me enough attention and I sought it out in dangerous ways. They lied to my dad and admitted me without his permission and told him I was NOT there after I had been there 10 days. My dad did NOT want me there and he was lied to on multiple levels. They're a bunch of greedy liars and really don't care about your kids. The staff just sit around and do nothing but criticize/ taunt your children and eat outside food in front of them and play on their phones. Everyone is encouraged to be a tattle tale it really is a rip others down to make you look better/be a favorite and get out kind of an environment. If you want your kid to resent you and probably get restrained and get their wrists broken then definitely send them here. This place is a shithole I'm surprised it's still open. Once a staff member I believe TJ was his name, was giving me 'group feedback' and started talking shit about my mom? Saying she was a bad parent ect and it obviously upset me, it was my 1st month there, I got upset and threw his phone at the wall and then I was restrained on the floor for 4 hours. They taunt and taunt and kids are expected to just take everything. This place teaches you, to not stand up for yourself and rip others down. We had cockroaches as pets in our soap boxes and would smuggle food in for them. At least they loved us back. read more

I was a sent to Eagle Ranch last year and spent 6 months here. Do not believe the bullshit you see online they are full of it. After i left i was looking at the recent ¨graduates¨ and the people i saw in the pictures weren't even at the facility when they apparently finished the program. I can almost guarantee your child will come out more rebellious than he or she went in because of how much BS they will be forced to deal with. Some kid decided to literally shit on the walls so they made me and 8 other kids sit in a room on the floor staring at each other and they wouldn't even let me use the bathroom. You arent aloud to use the bathroom on your own schedule here. Imagine having to take a piss on someone else's times. Once your child is there they are literally forced to keep their mouth shut about all the bad that goes one so that the parent will believe the staff instead and keep you there as long as possible. And if you don't keep your mouth shut they will take things like shoes, food portions, and sleeping in a bed privileges. One time my pod was put on strict and they took our privilege of speaking. WE WERE NOT ALOUD TO OPEN OUR MOUTHS. You spend most of your time filling out paperwork with those packets you hear about. And sometimes you don't even get your therapy session for the week. And the daily staff including the higher ups take out there personal issues on the students. It is a seriously fucked up place. I was asked one time how i was doing as a whole and it was only because my mother was trying to take me back home. Do what you want with this information but this is first hand experience. read more

Eagle Ranch has one of the best programs for Troubled Youth Schools. My good friend had a daughter that needed a lot of help. She was addicted to your Cell phone and started getting into trouble with drugs. Over time my friend had enough and couldn't handle her. She looked at a lot of different programs and decided Eagle ranch academy would be the best fit. She liked the 3 core values. It turned out to be a great decision. She highly recommends them to any parent who has a struggling Teenager and is looking for help. It's not an easy decision, but a necessary one. Good luck read more
