The wax loft was the first place I had been to receive any type of waxing service, and have been going here for years now. They are so phenomenal here. They answered any questions I had, and also gave me tips and tricks for aftercare after my service. I have had a variety of services done here, but I mainly get face waxing and Brazilians. Every time they treat me with care and provide excellent service. The results afterwards always look and feel great. The salon is very cute. They have music playing and just overall has a good vibe. Since my very first waxing, I've been to other salons, and the level of care they put into their craftsmanship has yet to be matched. That's why this is the only place I go to, or recommend when I'm in Ann Arbor. The location of the salon is downtown, so parking can be a little tricky. I recommend parking in the forest avenue parking garage, and just taking a quick 1 minute walk to the salon. Pretty disappointed. I was really excited to see all the great reviews about people and their waxing experiences, so I decided to go ahead and give it a shot. I went in to go and get my eyebrows done ($17), and was hoping they would at least try and shape my brows. I left my brow appointment with my eyebrows just looking a pinch more clean. They didn't give my eyebrows any shape-- she literally just waxed off the excess hair that didn't go with my natural brow shape. Afterwards, I saw that my eyebrow hair was not even (the lines didnt match up, so one part of my brow line was higher than the other), and her excuse was that "oh, I just waxed the hair on top of it, so I didn't really do that". If you're going to spend $17, go ahead and get it done at Ulta. They do a way better job than this place ever could. read more

First time visiting this place, and I don't think I'll be seeing another during my time here in Ann Arbor. Everyone was so lovely and chatty that it made the experience less painful and just all-around more enjoyable to look forward to. Sounds crazy, I know! Waxing anywhere is painful, but Stacy and her team have made self-care so much more enjoyable in this aspect. They've also been great at following up, handling reschedules, and scheduling you in advance so you don't have to worry about going in at regular times. They're also super cognizant about student schedules -- e.g. they knew by default when fall break was and decided to schedule the week after and not during! COVID safety measures are followed, and there is no dearth of hand sanitizers and general cleaning supplies if you felt paranoid. Great place! :) read more

Post COVID review. The salon is back, using very appropriate COVID safety measures (sanitizing between clients, masks, hand sanitizer provided, and limiting capacity). It was always clean before COVID too. My previous aesthetician has moved on but I was very pleased with my appointment. Co-owner Rebecca got me in the next day, was quick to correspond to clarify services I requested in my online appt request, and the service was efficient and friendly. She even checked in the next day to make sure I was doing okay and pleased with the service. So... I almost went back to the Wax Loft to complain about the rash they gave me, but I was certain that would be awkward, and would get nothing accomplished. I mean, what are they going to say? We'll do it again for free? No, thanks. I'd rather try my luck somewhere else. Three days ago I got a standard bikini wax. The waxed areas are still red and sore. Additionally, the actual waxing hurt much, much more than I remember from previous waxing excursions at other establishments. And I've only ever gotten full Brazilians before, so it's certainly not because I've become increasingly squeemish. Perhaps I'm more sensitive to the "strip" method? My previous waxer used a different method. She had a giant piece of taffy-looking wax, which she would stretch onto the area, and then yank off without the use of paper strips. If anyone out there is familiar with someone in town who uses this method, please let me know! That said, I was a walk-in, and I was being waxed in 20 minutes. Perhaps that should have been a clue? The student discount is awesome. The staff was quite friendly and I felt comfortable in the waxing room, if you ignore the searing pain. read more

I had heard great things about the Wax Loft so I decided to try it out for myself. I went to get a simple eyebrow wax that I was in desperate need of. Let me tell you ladies: you MUST have a good esthetician for a successful eyebrow wax. Last summer I went to a place that was not so great and he took off half of my eyebrow. FYI, eyebrows take FOREVER to grow in. So I was stuck with 1.5 eyebrows and some weird looks for several months. Never again. I was SO HAPPY after getting my brows done at the Wax Loft. Stacy did my wax and she was personable and chatty. She waxed all around my brows and then plucked the little hairs that the wax missed. I was in and out in 10 minutes, which was perfect for my busy schedule that day. The ambiance of the place was great too. Excellent price for a bikini wax at $25. Very clean and comfortable. Looks modern and very friendly service. I had Rebecca who was very personable and quick. There was no waiting time and they provided disposable waxing underwear, touch up tweezing, a warm damp cloth with wax remover as well as aloe vera gel. I really liked this place. I mostly give it 5 starts because of how quick this girl did the work. This girl was done with my brazilian in 10 minutes! it was great. A brazilian will never be fun so why try to go slow with it? just get it done. The owner did not care to know anything about me, she was absolutely quiet as she did it, which might be what is ticking people off so much about the place. She may come off as pretty rude. But really, this girl is just waxing your privates, she doesn't need to be your friend so get over it, I had better waxing here than I've had at places where the waxer wants to know everything about me. I did notice more irritation than usual afterwards, I'm not sure if it is the after-wax lotion they provide. They use a combination of hard and soft wax. I will definitely be going back. read more

Ive gotten multiple brazillian wax in where I'm from, in NY, and even those top notch ones were less expensive than this place. Without going into too much detail, I had put off finding a new waxer since moving to A2 in August and had refriended my razor. Every time I shaved, I imagined the disapproving look on my previous esthetician's face and vowed to make time in my schedule to do my research and find a new lady (imagine how hard it is to find a new hair stylist and multiply that by 10 because we're talking about hair down there!) So yeah... 5 months later, I'm still shaving. Then, as if it were meant to be, waxing came up in conversation with another one of my girlfriends who also recently moved for school. She said she's been getting everything (arms, legs, EVERYthing) waxed for years and highly recommends Wax Loft. Who am I to doubt the opinion of an expert on the matter, I've only been waxing body hair for a year! So I call and make an appointment, show up, fill out some paperwork, and before I knew it, I was in a small room showing some stranger what I've been growing out for 5 weeks (hair needs to be at least 1/2" long) for this special occasion. She warns me that it might hurt as much as the first brazilian I ever had and got straight to work. But you know what, when I finally got the courage to look down after she left the room, she didn't miss any. Amazing. I recently moved from San Francisco and tried to find a great place for my first Ann Arbor Brazilian, and chose the Wax Loft, despite their very mixed reviews. OMG it was horrible. I am one of the few, crazy people who doesn't mind getting waxed and in fact don't really feel a thing. I have NEVER been in so much pain from a wax before. My waxer worked SO fast and I felt like I was being attacked. She missed several spots and hairs and left me with so many in-grown hairs. It was painful, incomplete and totally horrible. I went to the Wax loft for the first time today. I selected it based off of its rave reviews on Yelp and proximity to my apartment. However I will never go back there again. I have been getting brazilian bikini waxes for about two years now. I am used to the pain and it usually does not bother me and I generally experience no adverse effects or skin sensitivity following. Today this was NOT the case! From the moment I stepped in till I paid, I was there for 19 minutes. Fast yes, thorough, NO. You don't want to necessarily skimp on time when getting a bikini wax... seriously... I didn't exactly want or expect drive-through speed! My aesthetician never even took her sunglasses off of her head! Stacy, my waxer, seemed to know exactly what she was doing, and I might have just caught her on an off-day, but I tried several attempts at conversation and she did not respond. The wax was very painful and she said nothing and did nothing to abate the pain! I realize that paper strips are more painful -- I'm used to cloth at my old salon -- but this was really ridiculous! Another odd note on cleanliness... she wore one glove... but used both hands while waxing. So confusing. At the end of the abrupt wax she handed me a stick with some cream on it and told me to rub it on and let her know if she missed anything -- as she left the room! I still had some very sticky spots (one of which still had paper towel stuck to it). I pointed it out to her and she said the cream will help remove the wax.... um... but it didn't! I assumed that the cream was just a post-epilatory wax remover/skin soother... When I got to the counter to pay... IT STARTED TINGLING like I had been covered in Icy/Hot! I mentioned it to the lady ringing me up and she said, "yeah, it should go away in about twenty minutes. The cooling sensation is weird, huh?" AND THAT WAS IT! Seriously. It was awkward and NOT soothing in any way, shape, or form! It did nothing to remove the copious amount of remaining wax and now 8 hours later -- I'm still red, sticky, and sensitive! This has never happened before! If Stacy had maybe just been a little bit more friendly or taken just a couple of extra minutes of attention to professionally explain her products/process... I would have still had the adverse reaction, but I never would have written a review. read more

I was a new client at the wax loft and Stacy did my Brazilian. They use Nufree hair removal product and I absolutely love this product in comparison to regular waxes. The room was very clean and had fun posters on the ceiling. Stacy was very friendly and thorough. From the negative reviews on here-I think it was the proper amount of time and I requested the Finipril because I've used that product before and had good results. I think you just need to try new products and if they don't work for you, then you try something different. But I've found what works for me! I had a great experience with no problems. This place is great. I have had some awful experiences with Brazilian waxes before. I paid $100 one time and the wax lasted 1.5 hours. I left the appointment shaking from the pain. At Wax Loft, it took less than 20 min to remove hair that had been shaved multiple times and was fully grown in. The pain was minimal and everyone was super friendly. Professional, friendly, clean place. My waxer knew just what she was doing and the pain level was lower than average. They throw in some funny frills like from a fancy spa --they will offer you "strawberry water" which is water that strawberries have been soaking in -- but it's really more of a midscale place. That's fine but I reserve 5 stars for someplace that actually nails the "pampering" aesthetic, as silly as that is. I kind of looked both ways before going in off the street to see if anyone I knew was about to witness me entering a place called "The Wax Loft." Kind of obvious what I'm about to have done.
