Lively restaurant next to our hotel in Portsmouth. Lots of nice French dishes. Tried the Fish Soup…read moreas a starter. The cheese comes on the side so you can proportion the amount you want. The soup was great. Not overly fishy at all. Light and tasty. Then had trout. Wonderfully prepared with water cress of all things. A unique and innovative recipe. This restaurant was a pleasant surprise.

You will find this restaurant in the outlet mall complex, just outside the main buildings. Bustling…read moreand lively dining room, even on a weekday evening. The waitstaff were quite accommodating and seated us at the only table that had an outlet for charging, per my request. It's one of those fancy open style kitchen places where you can see the chefs shouting at each other and dinging the little bell for service. My raspberry tonic mocktail was quite good, but the zest mocktail was much more refreshing. The Malabar fish curry was pretty good, a Thai red curry style of sauce with a cod piece in it. It tasted fresh, so so far I was happy. But the menu says prawns as well, as in plural, more than one. But there was only one prawn in my bowl. Should I have made a complaint about the semantic scam? Maybe, but they always make it seem like you're the idiot, is my experience. I liked their take on a fish curry, it comes with white rice and shaved crunchy coconut flakes. The dessert menu had nuts in every single dessert, which is not good if you rely on an epi-pen for such ingredients. I was offered the pleasure to have the cheese platter for the cost of a weekly grocery bill - Eeh, no thanks. The waitress agreed the dessert menu is crap and kindly offered a complimentary scoop of ice cream.

This is a gem of a place right next to the river. The staff are really friendly and down to earth and the surroundings are fantastic, especially when the weathers good. There's loads on the menu from jacket spuds to breaded plaice so if your in a hurry or want a nice long lunch, both are catered for. They do a fantastic full English here too or if your feeling adventurous, I'd recommend the Loch Fyne Kippers. Its fully licensed here and they do serve a really nice South African Merlot for around £12 or of course you can just stick to the Harveys as it hasn't had more than 20 yards to travel!

I think Brasserie is a slightly ambitious term for this place, Cafe would be a far more apt…read moredescription. Brasserie conjures pictures of a cool young couple enjoying a light lunch and a glass of wine, where as in reality you are far more likely to encounter old age pensioners nursing a cup of tea and a sarnie here! Not that there is anything wrong with this, I came here myself the other day and nursed a cup of tea and a slice of carrot cake! The tea was tea and the cake was pretty tasty although the frosting was overly sweetened. Other foods include sandwiches, bagettes, fish and chips, pie and chips etc etc. The food is apparently all homemade and looked reasonably tasty. Situated in a small shopping hall with a food hall, craft shops and gift retailers, there are also said to be good views over the river but we weren't able to see them from where we were sitting. They advertise free wifi but it wasn't working on our visit. Service was a little slow and a little surly. Overall, it's fine for a cake and a cuppa, but there are better options in Lewes if you require something a little more substantial.
