My wife and I had been wanting a water feature for a long time. After speaking with a number contractors and attending garden shows, we met Ben Goulart the owner of "the Waterfall Guy". Ben explained the different types of water features and that we would be better off with a pondless system that employs a tank. This approach requires little maintenance and does not grow algae.
It was clear after speaking with the different contractors that Ben was the most experienced and his portfolio of jobs highlighted the wide range of water features and his creativity. Having decided to use Ben, he came over and developed a beautiful design that looked natural and had options such as a variable flow, cascading falls and lighting. Once we decided to move forward, a date was set and the job was estimated to take two weeks.
Our job started in April when the weather was starting to get hot. The crew (Jose and Erik) arrived and starting preparing the hill for the falls and digging (by hand) a large hole for a buried tank. Two large bins of rocks were also delivered in addition to sand for a stone walkway. I have seen a lot of jobs around Livermore and Pleasanton where the contractors dump materials all over the road and make a mess and never clean up. Ben's crew laid down plastic and cleaned the job site each day. In addition, they laid down a temporary path to keep the lawn in good shape. I have never seen a crew work so physically hard digging trenches for electrical lines, the water tank and the falls. They were extremely courteous and put in full days to complete the job on time. They also were very meticulous, adjusting the flow of the falls to get the best effect, checking for leaks and putting in a perfect stone path. In the end, we ended up with a beautiful water feature that we enjoy every day. Ben and the crew also came back a few times to check to make sure that all was well.
I should also add that Ben stands behind his work. We ended up having to change the source of water for the tank refill and Ben did this for us gratuitously. Their work is outstanding from design, construction, site management and the end product. If you want a water feature, the Waterfall Guy is definitely the one to call.
