Clearly, Mowman has mixed reviews from customers. I am here to join the 1-star and below side and warn people about doing business with this company. My job for Mowman was to install some pet friendly astro turf in a small section of my yard for my dogs. The inexperience and incompetence of his crew became evident early on. The first thing they did was insist on using 2 pieces of material which would require a seam. i didnt really want a seam but i was promised that i wouldnt notice the seam when the job was compkete. When i asked if they could use a single piece that would not require a seam, I was told the material wasn't availble in a 15' width, which is what was needed to cover this small area without a seam. After looking into it, I discovered the 15' width is readily available at retail, Even Home Depot carries it. The 2nd incindence of incompetence became evident in their purchase of material. They bought a 12' andca 6' width and of couse, they came from different dye lots! and the colors didnt match. It. It took weeks for them to figure out how to correct this blunder, which delayed the project considerably. After the 2nd installation, there were multiple issues.: The seam was quite visible and unsightly, the nap of the grass laid flat because they used a broom instead of the machine that professionals use to make the nap stand up and two of four sides of the grass were cut short by about 1/2 inch and were tacked to the ground with raw edges exposed and fraying. To give you an idea, all the edges should be slightly tucked in to prevent fraying and have a finished look. Mowman's response to this was that someone must have moved the brick border, which is not true at all. Geronimo, the owner of the company, really played on the fact that i had another landscaper working on the other side of one of the borders. That border got mortared in from the back side to prevent shifting. It did not require the bricks to be removed or disturbed in any way. AND, the mortar work was done before the astro turf was installed. Clearly, the material was cut too small. Geronimo took no accountability for this error. What I'im left with is a terrible job that needs to be redone and will cost me an additional $2500. This after spending around $7000 with Mowman. if you do business with this company, you can expect honest input to be met with defensiveness. Once work commences, you will not see Geronimo again as he will send his workers and his Foreman. This would be fine if they could be trusted to do good work but when you tell Geronimo that something is wrong, he will make no effort to come see for himself. He will also believe his workers over you, even if they are lying to cover themselves, which did happen with my job.
While this company might do an adequate job mowing lawns, i would not trust them with anything more complex than that. Beware!
To clarify, while I did see Geronimo in small claims court, the judge made a partial judgement neither for nor against Mowman. By her own admission, the judge was unfamiliar with astro turf installation and was unable to make an informed judgement. Geronimo's response to my post further exemplifies his lack of accountability and his propensity to twist the truth. read more
