We booked a Sintra day trip through our hostel, Lookout Lisbon, for 30 euros each, which I think is cheaper than if we went through the company directly. The meeting spot was right outside of our hostel, so that was super convenient! There were a couple of people from our hostel and a few people from other hostels who met us around 11am for a total of eight plus our guide, Alex. We packed into the yellow 1982 Toyota van and hit the road!
We checked out the centre of the village, Quinta da Regaleira, which we were able to explore on our own, Peninha Sanctuary, Cabo da Roca (the westernmost point of Europe), and Guincho Beach. Alex was incredibly knowledgeable and took us to all of the best food and scenic spots. We stopped for a quick beer or two and even got to taste some ginjinha for free, a popular Portuguese liqueur made with ginja berries (sour cherry).
The whole trip was about 6-7 hours long, but it was only actually about half an hour to Sintra, there wasn't a ton of driving, and the time that we were in the van was pretty comfortable. Alex also gave us a few tips of where to eat and check out while we were in town. He was really great and made the biggest difference. We had a great day and well worth the money.
