History
Established in 1995.
The Pousada is part of the Palace known as the "Portuguese Versailles" and was the permanent residence of the Royal Family from 1794. Before it was known as the Summer Palace where they frequently came for concerts, equestrian shows and fireworks presentations that were held at the Court to celebrate patron saints, specifically São Pedro, and on the birthdays of the Royals. The Tower building was designed by Master Sargent Manuel Caetano de Sousa and functioned as the chambers of people serving the Palace and as a warehouse.
Property of the Portuguese State since 1908, the Palácio de Queluz currently offers a valuable collection of Portuguese decorative art and furniture to visitors, including Arraiolos carpets, royal portraits, Chinese and European porcelain and gold work from the Royal Collection, presented in period rooms.
