Learn excellent technique from a highly skilled professional singer and teacher. Study in person or via zoom. My technique is based on the Italian "bel canto" tradition plus years of accumulated practical knowledge and skill gained from performing and teaching at the professional level and years of post graduate study of vocal pedagogy and performance . Achieve clear vowel production, efficient breath management and body alignment to find the natural power and resonance of your voice. With specific and targeted exercises I can help you achieve a strong and easily produced chest voice, develop your midrange and extend your upper and lower registers, creating a seamless transition throughout your range. Together, we will choose music you enjoy singing and which will challenge and assist your vocal growth. Musical and dramatic coaching as well as diction are integrated into your lessons and emphasized in studio workshops and recitals where you can try out your songs for an audience of friends, family and fellow students.
Styles include musical theater, opera, art song and contemporary. Lyric diction includes Spanish, German, French and Italian. With Bachelor and Masters degrees in vocal performance and over 35 years of teaching and professional singing experience, I know I can help you achieve your singing goals.
History
Established in 1980.
I founded my business over 30 years ago with the desire to bring out the absolute best in each student's unique voice, help them achieve their vocal goals and enhance their experience of the joy and art of singing. My students come from all over the greater bay area.
Students attend workshops and recitals at The Voice Studio as well as participating on the local, regional and national level in master classes, recitals, voice seminars and competitions. I prepare students for college entrance auditions and scholarship competitions. As a member of The National Association of Teachers of Singing, all students are eligible to participate in NATS sponsored student recitals and our bi-annual Singing Festivals which feature Musical Theater, Opera, Oratorio, Art Song, contemporary and pop musical styles. I accept intermediate to advanced level, highly motivated students ages 13 and up who are serious about advancing their techniques and performance skills to the highest level.
Meet the Business Owner: Katya R.
Katya Roemer, Soprano, is an acclaimed and versatile artist who has performed extensively as a soloist in opera, operetta, concert and musical theater on the West Coast, New York, Spain and Italy. A winner of many awards and prizes, Roemer took first place in the National Opera Association's vocal competition, and was first runner-up in the Metropolitan Opera Pacific Region auditions.
Katya is a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS, www.sfbacnats.org) and holds a Masters Degree in voice. Katya maintains private voice studios in San Jose and Oakland. She teaches teens and adults in a variety of styles from pop to broadway and musical theater and opera. Her students have performed with Opera San Jose, San Jose Lyric Theater, Peninsula Teen Opera, SF and Oakland Symphony Choruses, Kitka and even rock and Mariachi bands.
