I'm so lucky to have found Deborah! She's so knowledgeable and diligent about training the voice, of course, but what sets her apart from other teachers is that she is also exceedingly warm and kind. In just a couple classes, she helped me transform my fear of singing into an absolute joy. Now I sing all the time with my partner, or by myself just walking down the street, and it's brought so much happiness into my life. Thank you, Deborah! read more

I've been meaning to write this review for a while now. Words cannot express how excellent of a singing/vocal coach Deborah is. In my mind, my experience with my voice is very palpable under her guidance. She knows I struggle to use my voice, so here it goes bec I finally dare to share my gratitude. Deborah is a kind and compassionate coach who understood my reluctance to sing and speak in public due to my subconscious fears now realized. She found a way to meet my voice where it was and gently yet patiently allowed me to explore it in a safe environment. I no longer believe my voice is a separate part of my body; instead, I feel it through my whole body, mind, AND spirit. And I don't think that my lessons with her are work - only fun. And as an adult, it seems I have lost my sense of play. However, my lessons with Deborah always remind me that it's time to play! read more

She's everything others have said - joyful, encouraging, attentive. I really enjoy learning from her.

I'm an older guy and I always liked singing....in my truck. Never sang in front of people. Horrible stage fright. I see people singing karaoke. It seems like fun. Deborah really helped me. She is a very warm, kind fun person. I was very comfortable singing for her. She helped me understand how to sing. I hit notes I never thought I could. I have sung karaoke in a bunch of places now. I'm even starting to play my guitar again. Who knows you might see me busking on some corner soon. I really believe if you like to sing look her up. Singing just makes you happy. read more

Hire Deborah!! We are all marveling out how strong, silky and beautiful my 18 yr old daughter's voice has become through Deborah's lessons and her religious practicing. She's gone from having a nice singing voice to a professional voice. It's so amazing to witness! Well done, Deborah! read more

Before I met Deborah I could not sing for more than 10 minutes without feeling pain from strain. I had gone over 7 years thinking that there was something wrong with me and that I would never be able to sing without pain. I even had lessons with 4 other vocal coaches and nothing seemed to work, I really was at a point where I lost hope. Within 2-3 months of lessons with Deborah (and dedicated practice) I am now able to sing for over an hour without any pain, I doubled my range, and I've significantly smoothened the gap between my chest voice and head voice. Her method of teaching technique is very unique but it worked really well for me. I am extremely grateful for everything Deborah has taught me. read more

I took lessons with Deb for about 2 years and learned sooo much from our weekly sessions. She not only helped me overcome my shyness of singing in front of people, but built confidence in me that I could sing any song I wanted to. It just took lots practice. I mostly enjoyed our recording sessions. Deb made me feel like a superstar. Deb is a beautiful soul and was my inspiration to start writing my own songs. I reccommend her to everyone! read more

I had taken singing lessons in the past, but other teachers always wanted me to learn opera-type songs, or show tunes. I wanted to learn songs like Joni Mitchell's Blue, Beatles' I Will a capella etc. I wanted to learn enough guitar to accompany my singing. Deborah was able to help me with both! Deborah is an exceptional vocal teacher. She's hip, patient, encouraging and fun to work with. The method that she teaches builds on everyone's natural talent (yes people, we all can sing!). At the end of each lesson, she gives you a recording of the lesson so that you can practice at home. Deborah is also a talented musician, songwriter and singer. Check out her cd's or a live performance if you get the chance! read more

My experience with Deborah has been nothing short of life-changing. After a number of years of having "learning to sing" on my bucket list, I took the plunge in early 2014. I found Deborah via her numerous great Yelp reviews. I have found Deborah to be patient, encouraging, and a real artist with a beautiful voice. Deborah worked with me to surprise my bride with a video of, not only pictures, but of me singing a special song for her on my wedding day. This is a memory that will last a lifetime, and I'm so appreciative of Deborah's efforts to make this happen (and her perfect editing). I highly recommend Deborah for students of all ages! read more

Deborah is awesome! I started working with her in February and I've never had lessons or tried to take vocal lessons before. She was very patient with me, I told her what I would like to accomplish and she catered our lessons to the goals I earmarked. She has a very good ear and can tell when your trying to cheet your voice into doing bad habits, which is awesome. I also am a huge fan that she makes cd copies of each lesson for me to review at home so that there is no excuses, its all on me as to how far I want to take it! read more

Absolutely phenomenal teacher and human being. Deborah has inspired my sometimes headstrong child to work hard at learning music and to enjoy the process. In addition to being inspiring, a great musician and wonderful teacher, she's also super organized. We couldn't be happier. read more

My daughter has been taking online guitar and singing lessons with Deborah for several months. She has loved learning to play. In particular, her having the chance to choose the songs she wants to learn has been such a joy. She has developed the habit of going to practice with Deborah online, then playing in her room for the next hour. Overall, her love of music continues to grow and she is having fun while learning to play. Deborah has a consistent encouragement that has been stellar. Deborah was the only good thing to come out of COVID-19. What a great experience. read more

I cannot say enough about how great Deborah Levoy is. Her unique teaching style has allowed me to hit notes that I thought would not be possible. I am currently in a band and even my guitarist noticed the difference in my vocal range. She has given me the confidence to sing any style of music and has made be believe in myself! I highly recommend her for anyone that wants to learn how to sing or is trying to improve on expanding their vocal range. Deborah is very inspiring and an amazing teacher and I feel lucky to have found her! Melissa read more

My daughter really wanted to keep up with the other kids who she has been auditioning with for musical theater. I cannot tell you what a difference a few months have made! My daughter used to be stuck in the ensemble cast. She had zero confidence. I just recently watched her audition for a Children's Musical Theater play. She was poised, prepared, and completely in tune. She sang an ambitious song, and she knocked it out of the park. As a result, she was called back for a major role. The difference is night and day. I also want to mention that Deborah is nothing but positive in her lessons. She is very kind, patient, and positive. She lets her students sing songs that they are interested in. She creates a environment in which her students lose their inhibitions and thrive. I strongly recommend her. read more

My daughter (now 15 yo) has been working with Deborah for 3 years on voice and ukulele and guitar - and I can say, without reservation, that it has been a wonderful journey for both my daughter and her grateful parents! Deborah has been loving and engaging and supportive - but has also challenged my daughter to try things she might not have otherwise (adding guitar, other styles of music) which has resulted in tremendous growth. My daughter looks forward to her lesson every week - it is not a chore, and she is growing up into an accomplished musician which makes her, most importantly (and us, including Deborah), very proud! If you have the opportunity to work with Deborah, I strongly encourage you to do so! read more

I went to Deborah to work on my speaking voice, so a little out of the ordinary. I found her to be very approachable and encouraging! She made me feel comfortable right away and it's clear she knows what she's doing. I noticed an improvement after the very first lesson! read more

My daughter and I have both been taking lessons with Deborah Levoy for almost 3 months. We found her on a list of vendors for our charter school, so I looked up her website and decided to try her out. I'm singing and leading music at church now and needed to learn how to properly use my voice without ruining it with bad technique! My 16yo daughter loves to sing in choir and with other musical friends. From her website I got a good vibe. There are strong reviews from students there as well as some of her own recordings. We went and felt very comfortable in her neat, artsy, cozy studio. There is a place for a parent to sit inside to observe the lesson as well as a patio area outside with a view of the garden. It's always easy for us to park on the quiet street. Our first lesson was beyond my expectations. Deborah has a very clear understanding of how the voice works and is able to communicate this effectively. Since we can't see the instrument it helps to visualize what is happening. She listened to what we were hoping to accomplish and started us with vocal exercises that would help us to sing in a way that sounds authentic and is healthy for us. I am impressed with how she can listen to each voice and "see" what is happening to the vocal cords. She can quickly modify exercises to help us create the sound and understand how to get there again. Since then both my daughter and I have noticed our vocal ranges increasing (we are able to sing higher without totally going into our head voices) and our voices growing stronger in the "mix" range (mixing chest voice with head voice to keep the voice authentic.) I am so happy with our progress and look forward to what we will be able to do. I am a music teacher, with a music degree from SJSU, have been teaching piano and choir for years, have taken lessons from a number of teachers of both classical and contemporary styles and have sung in choirs for many years in high school and college. That said, Deborah is truly the best vocal music teacher I have ever found. She is worth every penny. read more

We discovered Deborah when searching for a vocal instructor for our 14-year old daughter after relocating to the Bay Area. She had had several vocal teachers over the years, but none had actually helped grow and refine her abilities. Deborah taught her how to exercise and train her voice like a muscle and her range, depth and ability have grown enormously. Our daughter has since successfully sung in competitions and musicals and plans to pursue musical theater in college. She's encouraging, great with students of all ages and really helps improve her student's confidence. Deborah utilizes her understanding of music, the material and the way vocal chords work to help each student really understand their ability and reach their maximum potential. For those interested in pursuing singing as a career, she provides invaluable advice, networking and has a recording studio on premise for recording demo and audition tapes. If you've ever been keen to sing, it's worth having an introductory lesson! read more

Deborah is the perfect guitar/ukulele teacher for my 9 year old son. She is sweet, upbeat, fun, contemporary, patient, and understanding. She is very engaging, and knows how to connect well with children. My son is a beginner, and she has made learning fun for him. From teaching my son how to tune the instrument, to teaching him tricks on how to read notes/chords, to helping him choose pieces that are meaningful to him, she knows how to connect with students well and makes learning an enjoyable experience. read more

When I started working with Deborah about 2 months ago, I immediately had the feeling, that I found exactly what I have been looking for. What definitely struck me was Deborah's positive energy and her encouraging feedback. She is a great listener and follows my goals with complete openness and great flexibility. I always loved singing but I had no clue about voice techniques and easily strained my voice after singing a few songs. Since taking lessons with her I have a much better understanding of how my voice works as an instrument and I don't strain my voice as easily as before. She has great experience and always finds a way to help me with my challenges. She is wonderful and I definitely can recommend her! read more

My daughter is 9 years old and have been taking lessons with Ms Deborah Levoy for 2 years since she was 7. My daughter has been singing at events, musical plays, parties and even the National Anthems since she was 6. Now she is singing for professional sporting events like Golden State Warriors during their playoffs, Raiders, The America's Cup and more. At such a young age, I was worried about the health of my daughter's voice and I notice she would strain off the high notes and using all chest voice or flips to headvoice. So I did my research and found Deborah Levoy. Some vocal teachers say they don't teach until a certain age, but my belief is why not teach them the right way now than learn on their own the wrong way, do bad habits and damage their vocal chords. It is amazing how your voice works, I had no idea til I met Deborah. She taught my daughter how to move from chest voice to her upper register without the flips or breaks. My daughter now sings her high notes effortlessly and I've seen the difference, and is still learning. Ms Deborah goes in dept to teach you how your vocal chords work and gives you exercise to help train your voice to not strain and whatever you would like to work with. If you would like to work on a song for a musical play, a performance, whatever it is, she is there to help you. What my daughter also learned with Deborah is that it's not just about singing the song but understanding and telling the story with feelings. Ms Deborah would go line by line for the meaning, your pronouciation of the word, etc. She is amazing, my daughter loves her and felt comfortable with her right off the back. She cares about her students and it shows. Even though I feel that Nayah may have learned a lot, there are so much to learn about singing. Nayah is still growing and her voice will change throughout the year so Deborah is preparing her for when that time comes. Another cool thing is that she records each session so you can take it home and practice with it. Take a chance with Deborah you won't be disappointed. oh check out my daughter in youtube under Nayah Damasen if you don't believe me. :) read more

Not only do I love the way Deborah teaches voice to my daughter, but I also appreciate her smart and efficient business practices, which give me clarity about scheduling and the financial aspects of taking lessons from her. She is warm and personable, putting my teen at ease immediately. She is creative in her use of tools and concepts to allow immediate understanding and improvement, which propels motivation and enjoyment. read more

My daughter is very musical but shy to perform. She started taking voice and guitar lessons with Deborah about 11/2 years ago. Since Deborah has started teaching her, her vocal skills have blossomed and she has become more and more proficient at guitar. Deborah pulled her out of her shell and got her to perform publicly for the first time. She has an awesome attitude, provides positive constructive criticism and inspires my daughter. Deborah has a recording studio at her downtown location and gave us a fabulous recording. I would recommend Deborah highly! read more

My daughter was looking for a voice teacher that would not just teach her how to sing for musical auditions but someone that would help her sing rock/pop songs so I went on Yelp. There I saw a wonderful review from someone who had been looking for the same thing and had experienced Deborah's lessons with rave reviews. So I contacted her through email. She replied within 24hrs and voila! my daughter had her first lesson of many. She is all that people rave about and more!! My daughter's voice has totally changed in just 2 months of lessons. I am not the only one that notices - others have come and said "what is she doing?" "she sounds different" "what an amazing change!". She is also getting more confident in herself after each lesson and is so happy singing. I have to say that one of my favorite things about Deborah's lessons are that she records them on a cd and my daughter brings them home and practices all week long until her next lesson. She also can go back and work exercises that she had several weeks ago. What a great tool and idea. I can't say enough but we are very very happy with Deborah Levoy!!! read more
