I hate to write a negative review, but after a few days here, I'm giving the Vine Inn a two star review. So the positives, I got into Davis in the afternoon, went to the front office and checked in. The girl at the frontdesk was nice, pleasant, and helpful. She got me squared away with my key and directed me to my room. Another positive, you can't beat the location. The hotel is located off of D street and is great for walkability. There are tons of restaurants, cafes, and shops to walk to. The neighborhood seems safe, too. Parking was fine. There were plenty of spaces at the time I arrived, but towards the end of the day people start coming back, and the lot gets pretty full and a bit tight, so just beware. When I went to my room, I noticed a gap between the door and the actual floor, so that was a bit concerning. Once I entered into the room, it seemed fine. The bed was a king size bed, there was a desk, large TV, and the bathroom was updated, which was a nice feature. Because of the gap between the door and the floor, I wound up having to put a few hand towels between the floor and door, I'm paranoid about creepy crawlies coming into the room. I went to dinner that night, and came back to my room. As I was sitting on the bed, I saw a small spider. I understand things happen, but I'm not a fan of bugs, so I was kind of on high alert. Fast forward to my second full day here. I woke up in the morning to go to the bathroom and saw a ginormous cockroach on the floor. This was kind of it for me. This totally grossed me out. I'm assuming this wouldn't have happened if there was a gap between the door and the floor. If you're assigned room 104, I'd recommend getting a different room, as I'm pretty confident no bugs would have entered had there not been a gap there. There was water damage above the shower, that looked like it was patched. Also, the rug under the bed needed a good cleaning or maybe a replacement. FYI if you typically don't bring a hair dryer with you, you'll need to, as I didn't see one in the room. Will I stay here again if I'm in the area? Potentially, if they get the door situation fixed. read more

For a few visits now, the Vine Inn Davis has become my home away from home when I come back to the town of my alma mater. Davis holds a certain nostalgia for me. Location, location, location. That's the draw for me w/ the Vine Inn. Downtown Davis is immensely walkable & the Vine Inn is near the heart of all of it. Just park the car & fahgettaboudit. For parking, the Vine Inn does have its own lot. It's not big, but I've always managed to find a space. Checking in has been simple & smooth. The property is basically an updated motel. 1st & foremost, the room was spotlessly clean & the bed slept super comfortably. The bathroom was small-ish but big enough. The toiletries were nice. There was a mini-fridge & microwave in the room. Free Wi-Fi was strong & fast in the room. While the room had a modern decor feel, the basic cable TV seemed behind the times. There was a Keurig in the room for coffee, but I couldn't get it turn on. No need, really. The complimentary breakfast, mornings, behind the hotel's desk, had plenty of coffee. That coffee & the breakfast offerings, basically continental, were OK. For a central base of operations near the center of Davis, the Vine Inn works for me. It's simple but pleasant. $103.36 per night. Not bad for this newly renovated inn that's right in the middle of downtown Davis. I was a little worried about being on the first floor but it was actually fairly quiet. I had the AC blasting all night which worked like a charm as a white noise machine. The location is close to everything so that was really convenient. There's no fitness center or pool but they do have a basic breakfast with essentials. Front desk is basic -- college student managing the minimal. The bathroom is really small, just a shower with a barely there sink. It is what it is for $100 and at least it was very clean. read more

This was our stay over before our flight From SAC. It's a fair rate, very clean, quiet and less than 30 from the airport. The king bed was nice. Our rate included a cold breakfast. . Others have noted the morning train noise , but I have been up since seven and I would say it's minimal. Like blocks away sounds. I would return any time. read more

The price for this hotel is great. The customer service at reception was great. The room was clean, although the rug needed to be shampooed. The bed was comfortable to me, but some of the other furniture was shabby. There was some alarming water damage in the ceiling above the shower. Surprisingly there were none of the cockroaches or rats that Davis is famous for even though there was a gap under the door large enough for critters to get in. It is noisy. Ask for a 2nd floor room if possible. The garbage truck comes early and makes a lot noise. There is a train that goes by blowing its horn frequently. You can hear this train from miles away so that is not unique to this hotel. read more

Reviewers seem to love or strongly dislike this hotel. We absolutely loved it and would like to stay here next time we visit Davis. It's a very short walk to everything, including UC Davis where our young adult goes to college. We found the room clean and the decor modern. The front desk staff was friendly and parking is free. We didn't try the free continental breakfast because we wanted to eat at local restaurants, but it looked ample. No complaints--highly recommend read more

my friend & i opted to stay here for a wedding rather than the hilton that they reserved a block with because it was cheaper. and i'm glad we did because our room was way more spacious and just as nice, if not better. the bed was comfy, the shower was so tall & it was all also very clean. my only complaint was that the bathroom door was one of those sliding barn doors, which beside it being a lil too joanna gaines for my taste, wouldn't properly close. the complimentary breakfast had a bigger selection than we expected from such a small space, so we grabbed breakfast there every day. philz is right around the corner & raising canes was super accessible for a post-wedding drunken meal. if you're a giant (or just a regular person) that needs lots of space and also needs to be within walking distance of every possible restaurant or store in downtown davis, then the vine inn is the perfect place for you. read more

We spent one night in this hotel. The room was as advertised. However, the promised "included in the price" breakfast was not available. The worker who was supposed to show up to open the front office and provide access to the breakfast room at 7am never showed up that morning. We had booked this hotel because we needed to get an early start on a long day's drive and planned to have a quick breakfast at the hotel to save time. We called the emergency number and the person who answered said he had no idea when someone would show up. We waited a total of 30 minutes, gave up and started our drive. We had to stop for a meal which cost additional time and money. I call the hotel and asked to speak to the manager. I was told that "Tracy" is an off-site manager. (!?!?) I left a phone message for her and sent her an email complaining of being basically cheated out of the breakfast we were promised and that we paid for. "Tracy" did not even have the courtesy to respond to my messages. read more

Quiet (yes, the train goes by but it goes by all of downtown) Only problem was the roach in the bathroom (2nd floor room) -- when I told the front office she merely asked for the room number and there was no apology or anything. This place has really mixed reviews, but my experience was excellent. I think there may be great differences between old versus upgraded rooms and location on the property. In my reservation I requested a second floor room that was quiet. The super nice desk clerk read my request and gave me room 213. It was huge, completely updated, and super quiet/private. As others have said, this location is in the middle of so many restaurants so I never got in my car during the entire stay. The breakfast was much more extensive than I expected . . . orange juice, egg muffin, yogurts, coffee and more. It cost far less than the airb&bs also considered and no long list of rules. I am a customer who booked a room at the Vine Inn for two days in April, 2022. The stay was unpleasant due to unsatisfactory maintenance and terrible service there, and I will try to tell the story as objectively as possible: Upon arrival, the parking lot was full. Their parking lot has approximately 14 spots for more than 20 units, so complimentary parking advertised on their website is not guaranteed. I was instructed by the front desk to park on the street. Upon entering the room, there was an unwashed mug below the coffee maker with coffee stain on it. The room was recently remodeled so the overall quality is fine. Specifically, the TV was nice and new so I tried to turn the TV on but could not find the remote. I tried to call front desk but the telephone had no "front desk" label and neither was any instructions or labels nearby. I then walked to the front desk (~10-11PM) but it was locked down, so I went back to my room to do some work but there was no pen and paper provided in the room. In the next morning, I received a ticket for parking on the street. The fine amount was 50 dollars. Then did I realize that from 8AM-6PM there is only 2-hour parking at downtown Davis, but these angled parking spots do not have signs at each spot like mostly everywhere else. The sign is ~100 feet away near the intersection so it is hard to be found at night. I was not informed by the front desk about limited street parking. When I went to the front desk to file a complaint, I requested to talk with the supervisor and cancel the second night for staying with a full refund (yes, only the second night that I am not staying). I was told that the supervisor was not there today. I then requested the supervisor's phone number to explain the issues and discuss a solution, but I was told that they cannot give me the phone number. I therefore requested the front desk to call the supervisor and pass on the message or make a decision on behalf of the supervisor, the request was also declined. I was told that I have to email the supervisor myself via their general info email address. At this point, it seems obvious that they do not want to resolve this issue at all. I did persist and send the email according to their suggestion, and I also attached my phone number and requested a phone call, but there is no surprise that I have never heard from them since then. I am writing this review four days or two business days after my stay. Below is my subjective opinion: the issues above were only minor issues and very easy to resolve, but the way they handled this showed how poor their service and management were. They could have canceled the second night and given me their hotel credit for one night's worth or at least the equal fifty dollars for the parking ticket (even though everybody knows that I am never coming back), but they have chosen to waste 15 minutes of my life writing down this long review. If you are choosing to live at downtown Davis, just stay in the Hilton nearby. The dollars saved is not worth ruining your trip. read more

My son and I were in town visiting my daughter and stayed one night at the Vine Inn. We were put in room 105 (directly behind the stairs to second floor). Unfortunately we did not realize that there was NO weather stripping around the door until after the office was deserted. You could have threaded a sheaf of papers through the door and the doorframe. We heard ALL the comings and goings, ALL the traffic and ALL the train whistles all night. The cold air poured in and the noisy heater kept kicking on. It was a nightmare trying to sleep. There is no way they should have given anyone that room given the lack of basic maintenance. Afterwards, I tried to contact a manger 8 times about my experience. No manager is ever available on site - she works at Best Western...??? Despite many calls and emails, no one ever got in touch with me to discuss our experience. That was more disappointing than the lack of weather stripping. I will never stay there again since they don't give a whit about customer satisfaction. read more

7am Noise: Vine Inn is in town along tree lines street. DOWNSIDE: 7am Leaf Blowers up and down the street. Woke me up and the noise didn't stop for a solid half hour. This was followed by municipal trash pickup. UPSIDE: Can walk everywhere in town. Restaurants, shops. Convenience store all within 2 blocks. ROOM: Updated shower/bath room fixtures were nice. Room is pretty small for two doubles but decor was clean and nice. Keurig in room with Dunkin' products was nice touch. FAMILY NOTE: No bathtub in room. Can't bathe young children. read more

Looks like the exterior of this old motel is getting a much needed facelift (work was ongoing at the time of our 7-30-19 stay), but fresh paint and new window trim on this place will be like putting lipstick on a pig. At $170 per night plus tax, this 2-story place just isn't worth the money. Although our bathroom in our upstairs Room 207 was brand new and clean, there were no counter surfaces at all to place even a toothbrush or hair brush as one stood at the bathroom sink. There was a shelf precariously located above the toilet but that's no place to put personal care items while you're getting cleaned up and ready to go out. Our two twin beds were comfortable enough but the pillows on both had some kind of foam filling that had no "give" whatsoever when you rested your head on them. The room's window-mounted AC in our room had to be 20+ years old at least and sounded like a generator all night. The door to our room was an ancient wood paneled door that was in such a state of disrepair that from the inside of our room sunlight could be seen shining through cracks that had opened up in the door as several of the factory door panels had, over the course of what I imagine had been decades of openings and closings, had shifted out of place. Even more disquieting was the fact that entire locking escutcheon affixed to the exterior of our door (that we slid our room key card over to unlock our door) was literally falling off as if someone had tried but was not quite successful in prying it off. Last, if we had dared to try to enjoy it, the included free continental breakfast was served on the first floor in a very small, dingy room that had a dirty, gross-looking floor surface and equally gross-looking old tables and chairs in it. We elected to "pass" on that free amenity and chose instead to eat somewhere else around the corner. The owners of this place really need to put some money into it like right now and fix this place up top to bottom before taking $170 of someone's money. FYI -- we reserved this little oasis on Bookings.com for a one night stay to tour UC Davis the next morning. Yipes! Travelers Beware! read more

Nice, newly renovated hotel close to restaurants and UC Davis. The pluses: the towels were fluffy and big. The beds were comfy. All the lights have dimmer switches. A simple breakfast is included. The minuses: the heater was too loud for me to use at night. The sink didn't have counter space. The shower's water pressure was kind of low. read more
