Don't! Not until after you've paid dues the staff tell you there is a noise problem. And they offer you earplugs. The room smell was of stale bread. I went barefoot in the room and next morning when I hit in the shower my dirt footprints were left on shower! Don't just don't. PS no garden! I had a lovely stay here on my recent trip to Davis to assist at a nearby Yelp Event, and will definitely plan to come back on my future visits! First, the location of this Hilton is AMAZING. It's literally right downtown, a few minutes walk from anyplace you could possibly want to visit. I was merely a quick hop away from several cool local businesses, including the fantastic Shipwrecked, a tiki bar dangerously close (maybe a 4 minute walk) to the hotel! What really set this hotel apart, though, was the friendly and helpful staff. From the cheerful front desk attendants with their smiles whenever I entered and exited, to the cool dude at the hotel bar who supplied me with utensils when a nearby takeout spot did not, I could clearly tell this is a well-managed property. And while it was very clean in general, a couple spots were definitely in need of attention (such as the single elevator, with broken/cracked buttons that may - or may not - bring you to your preferred destination depending on how hard you pushed them). My room on the 2nd floor was very clean, and located just above the main entrance. That in itself did not cause any extra noise, but being right across from the elevator did - it was pretty loud, especially late at night. When I return, I'll ask for a room farther from the elevator. Other than that, it was very comfortable and spacious. On the main/lobby level, there's a shopping area full of all sorts of snacks to bring back to your room. Plus a bar that's open after 5pm, and a breakfast buffet that isn't free ($15/person) - I didn't try it, but (from the looks of the crowded dining area) lots of people did. Parking (at an additional cost) was hit/miss. Luckily I managed to snag the very last spot both nights I was there! Yes, it's near the train tracks, but they do supply helpful ear plugs at the front desk and (at least during my visit) the trains were not that frequent. Centrally located in downtown Davis, and across from a multi-plex movie theater is the Hilton Garden Inn (HGI) Davis. This property is unlike standard HGI's I've stayed at and suspect that it may have been another hotel before becoming an HGI. Also, be aware that the property is adjacent to RR Tracks with a commuter train stop, so it can be noisy with trains passing throughout the day and night. The staff that I encountered at the front desk were all very pleasant, friendly, and professional and were very eager to please. The property itself was very clean including om room which was identified as a two-queen with a French balcony. Room was spacious and comfortable; everything worked properly and included all the standard amenities found in an HGI. Bed was comfortable and work area with desk light was suitable too. There was a charge for parking, but it is not secured, so I always wonder why some HGI properties do not charge for parking and others do, especially when parking is not secured. Anyway, I guess that mystery is to be solved on another day. The breakfast was disappointing. Typically, at HGI's breakfast options are made to order. At this property, I suspect they do not have a full kitchen, so the breakfast is more like that of a Hampton Inn or Homewood Suites. It was also very limited in selections and right before I had breakfast, there was a large group of about 30 or so students so the pickings were slim and slow to be restocked by the attending staff. Also, there is very limited places to eat especially when most of the furnishings in the dining are more conducive to lounging than eating but did include a good-sized full bar. I do recommend staying at this property but do be aware of the differences I highlighted and potential for more noise/ disturbance due to its location near UC Davis. read more

We are Hilton fans, probably easily staying at hiltons 30+ days a year plus being a Hilton club owner. This hotel really left us disappointed. Here's our tips for future guests: Pros: app check in and room selection was seamless. Loved that we could select our room (top floor) and they even accommodates us early check in and 12noon check out. Con: you hear the train blowing its horn 4+ times at night 20 feet from the hotel property between 11pm and 6am. Tip- select your room to over look F street so the building buffers you from the sound. Con: Our upgraded room was missing the extra seating in the large empty space. We purchased this room upgrade as we knew we were having our son over after dinner to hang out with us as he lives in Davis Con: The entire hotel smelled like a scented candle which isn't great for those with scent allergies. Our room smelled of the free shampoos and lotions from the bathroom Pro: the AC unit worked great and was so quiet- Con: the AC unit was so quiet that it didn't help drown out the noise from the train horn Con: $15 a day parking fee read more

Decent hotel. Stayed here for one night for a business trip at UC Davis. Check in was fast. I had read some reviews from a month ago and was nervous about the elevator not working and the bed bugs! Luckily we did not encounter any issues. We checked the room and bed to make sure and it was fine. You can hear the train as well but it wasn't as loud. I have a highly sensitive nose and can smell everything and for me there was a distinct smell in the elevator and in my room so if you're someone like me you may experience the same. This hotel has a great location in Davis downtown (near the Amtrak station, so the train can be quite loud). Most of the great sights in Davis are walkable from this hotel. However, I found the facility itself to be unimpressive. The hotel forgot to provide us with body wash in the shower and our hotel room smelled weird. The bathroom had a strong bleach smell in it but the shower was clearly dirty with some pieces of dirt in it. We asked for housekeeping not to come when we checked in but the front desk failed to communicate this with housekeeping so they came anyway. There are lots of other hotel options in downtown Davis (two best westerns and "vineyard inn") so a visitor to Davis has plenty of options for other hotels. read more

The location is great in terms of walkability, but it is right next to the Amtrak station / railroad tracks so we did hear trains every so often including the middle of the night. The balcony was not worth the upgrade as it just looked out onto a parking garage and had a high, unattractive wall blocking any people watching. Onsite parking is reasonable at 15 per night but the breakfast is cold left overs from the day before and not worth 16 dollars for cold eggs. Staff were very friendly and helpful! Parking in the below grade lot is a bit safer but was ridiculous to get in/out of due to a poorly designed ramp. Now the facilities - somewhat clean but the elevator was worn out and was making mechanical noises like it was ready to fail. Room could have been cleaned better. I cut my foot on some grout sticking out from the tiles. No room safes! This leaves us to the "my cousin Vinny" moment when the train --right behind the hotel woke me every day around 5am. I'm a diehard Bonvoy guy (Marriott, Sheraton) but I make an exception when traveling to my alma mater UC Davis for biz or fun: Hilton Garden Inn. Its location alone, right in the middle of downtown Davis, makes it a great choice. Being a Hilton club member helps, but I have found the front desk staff to be over-the-top awesome. It's probably due to their GM, Mr. Cosmin Nicula, who is one of the most personable, hands-on, thoughtful and friendly hotel managers I've ever met. On some recent back-to-back visits, he never failed to stop everything and greet me by name, offering to assist when he saw I had a question. Visitors, see this gentleman during your stay. The hotel meets all my needs. The one one bedroom suite has a good-sized "living room" area with sofabed. The one king bedroom is also on the larger size; both have big screen TVs. A nice touch is your own Keurig machine with unlimited capsules, just ask for more if you drink them up. In the morning, the huge lobby turns into a breakfast AYCE buffet and, at night, it's the restaurant Seasons Kitchen and Bar. Other reviewers mention the train, as this hotel is near to the Davis Amtrak station. Honestly, it didn't bother me. With the windows closed and shades drawn, it wasn't enough to keep me up, and my rooms have been on the "train side." I guess all the rooms are on the train side. But I would not let the train deter any guest from a couple nights here when visiting the City of Davis or the UC Davis campus. Walk everywhere from this centrally-situated hotel! Do not, I repeat DO NOT stay here. We booked a king suite for a night as my husband and I were traveling up from Orange County with our youngest daughter to visit our oldest daughter for parents weekend at UCD. Upon arrival, we were very cleverly informed that they upgraded a.k.a. gave away our suite and replaced it with something pretty subpar. How on earth are 2 adults and a teen supposed to share one bed???? I told the Clerk behind the desk that that wasn't going to work so she so generously, not really, booked us a double queen. Fine I guess, it was only one night. Let me tell you that that one night was sheer torture! Between the loud train that came by about four times from sundown to sun up, blowing its horn every time no matter how late to the incredibly uncomfortable bed that left both my husband and I with a sore back and a tweaked neck we were less than satisfied. What did they comp us for giving away our room you ask? A free breakfast that I wouldn't have paid money for and a reimbursement on our parking (which honestly we shouldn't be paying that much per night to park our car anyways). Don't be fooled staying at this hotel because it looks cute and quaint. You'll feel exactly like I do, annoyed and disappointed. If you do decide to take a chance on this place, please bring silicone earplugs because the earplugs they provide you with. (and they do that because they are fully aware of how obnoxious that train is) fall out of your ears the second you try to put them in. I've had to stay here on multiple occasions for work and I would have to say the experiences are...just a tad under okay. Decent location, there are quite a few spots to eat at nearby, and a movie theater across the street. That's probably why we choose this location above the other ones in the area. One thing to know is that the hotel is situated right along a railroad, so you'll hear the trains coming through at night, and if you're a light sleeper, well, you're in for a long one. I'm typically pretty heavy and you can always throw on headphones to drown it out, but I'm not fond of doin something like that when I'm away from home, haha. I usually will run a white noise app or something and I've been okay. I've heard my coworkers complain about not getting much sleep tho. The staff is very friendly and do make me feel like a valued customer...however, for the past two years that I've come through, the elevator has been out EVERY time. Now I don't mind taking the stairs...but twice my room has been on the 3rd floor and lugging my stuff up and down on check-in and check-out can be a little tiring. I've never had the option to take the elevator, so that's a ding. As far as the rooms are concerned, they're okay. The shower pressure is great for me and the beds are comfy enough. Pillows are another story, but that's almost every hotel I go to. Know that breakfast is $10, so not included like with other Hiltons you might be familiar with. I do check for bed-bugs at every hotel I go to, so I've never had an issue with that...and I pray I never do, because I know I will def have to come back sooner rather than later. Can get a little pricey and sells out quick, so plan way ahead if you know you'll be around during busy times. Could be a better experience, but the elevator and train issues prob do make it challenging for most....I know they can't do anything about the train, but it could be a deal breaker for some folks. read more

Definitely not a fan of this hotel. Where to start...the check in was a rapidfire set of questions and credit card swiping, while telling me that the elevator is broken (seems like this is a common theme at this hotel - and it seems like the elevator has been broken for a long time). Then they put me in a room with the train tracks on my left, and a really loud squeaky door everyone is forced to use because the elevator is broken. Oh, and the ice machine is right next to the room too. The door into the room has a draft coming through the space underneath, which means I can also hear everyone talking and moving around outside. Walls are really thin - even now I can hear the people next door talking and they're not even that loud. After getting settled and having the "do not disturb" sign on my door, the cleaning crew opened my door. Kind of defeats the purpose of the sign. The room itself looks outdated. Cracked paint on the walls, and plenty of drywall scuffs and repair attempts. There are also bugs in the room. There are curtains, but they can't be drawn. There are some good things. I appreciate the fridge and the microwave. I also like the plugs - USB devices can be plugged in directly, which is nice. And they're right next door to a really good omakase restaurant. read more

The free breakfast had no food and no cream for coffee, the room was old, the TV and Heater were broken and the fan in the bathroom sounded like screams from a women. A lady and her dog got stuck in the elevator for 45 mins in 34° weather and the emergency button was broken. My family and I recently stayed at this hotel for 2 nights. We typically stay at another hotel in Davis, but everywhere was sold out for a UC Davis event. The team members I encountered, including two people at the front desk, a member of housekeeping, and a manager were lovely and helpful. They get 5 stars. But the hotel gets 2 stars. Elevator- needs fixing. Very loud with scraping noises. Hotel hallways- Odor and poorly ventilated, really stuffy. This hotel is loud. It is right next to the train tracks. And one of the nights we stayed here, there was a fundraiser in the courtyard. While it did not run too late, the music was loud and we were never informed during booking about this event. Parking lot is horrible. We were here UC Davis parent's weekend and there were no spots, and a lot of issues with the slim spots. I declined housekeeping while we were there. Unfortunately, they came in anyway to clean the room. Topsheet was not replaced so I had to call down to have one sent up. They confirmed 2 times it was for a king bed, and I received a queen topsheet. Lastly, and I cannot prove this, but I do not feel their king is a true king bed. We have a king at home, and as soon as we walked in, my partner and I thought we were in the wrong room just by eyeballing the bed. We called down and confirmed they had us in a king room. Laying in the bed also did not feel true to a king. The bed itself was comfortable. No bed bugs. I was on the porch barefoot and stepped on a small shard of glass. Davis water tastes terrible, and this hotel gives bottled water, which we really appreciated. While this was not the worst hotel and my partner thought it was more or less fine, we have no future plans of returning. read more

Bedbugs! I reported this incident which left me with over 3 doz bites after just staying one night; after 2 days I have yet to receive a response from the hotel front desk / manager. We stayed for a team youth soccer tournament and wont be back, ever, after everyone saw my legs and arms the next day. Don't be fooled be the recently renovated lobby. Many of the rooms are in separate buildings and these are much older. Beware of those tight zip on mattress covers, clearly, in my case / room, they were just covering an in mattress. P.S. From the moment we walked in, crumbs of chips of the floor, the bathroom had mold in the shower and hair on the floor. I called the front desk to ask if I could have the shower sprayed with bleach or Lysol but nothing was done .... So I grabbed a handful of Lysol wipes at the front desk and wiped down the bathroom myself. First, the good: Ashley at the front desk was very accommodating. She even switched one of our rooms due to concerns about wedding noise. The bartenders were very nice. Location was terrific, too. Now, the bad: I requested room service and the person at the desk told me "We ask for 24 hour notice." This after they had provided the service the night before without 24 hours notice. The card in the room that alerted me about the need to request room service did not include this 24 hour notice. I bit my tongue. I wanted to say that it's BS that Hilton uses COVID as an excuse to provide the most basic hotel servicing. In any case, she said she could fit us in. The room wasn't serviced. Hilton claims to provide a clean, sanitized room. They might want to check the filters in the air conditioner. Both my daughter and I have asthma and we were experiencing symptoms. Since we have the same mini split AC unit at home, I decided to check the filters. Disgusting. Check the pictures. No wonder we were having trouble breathing. Hilton ought to spend less time printing and posting cards telling us how wonderful and diligent they are. We came out to see a very sick family member and from the moment we arrived the staff was kind, consoling, and MORE than helpful with each and everything my mother and I needed to make a trip that wasn't fun as comfortable as possible. When our family member passed away two days into our stay they continued to make us feel as welcomed and comfortable as possible. Had an upgrade to a Double Queen with French Balcony, but at checkin it was changed to an interior room. At check in-our Wi-Fi is out, our elevator is broken-still. And after checking into the room, I got assigned the only room without a blackout curtain. What was a planned stay while checking in my son at UC Davis, is now a struggle sleeping next to train tracks and brilliant light into my room. Apparently reading previous reviews-the elevator nor the Wi-Fi has ever worked, nor ice machines. The Staff seemed resigned to just saying nothing works-sorry, I can't help you. Do Not Stay Here. In the morning, I came to look at their breakfast options. I was charged to my room without being asked my preference and the food was cold and the options were slim. For $15. It's been 10 minutes and the woman at breakfast has not returned my debit card but she is walking around the lobby. I also forgot my toothbrush (oops) and the lobby does not carry any. Rm 167 - checked in for 2 nights. Assigned a room in the exterior building because they were "fully booked." Receptionist was friendly and apologetic. A/C thermostat was finicky displaying a flashing wrench icon; maybe indicating it needing service. The actual wall unit itself was dusty and dirty. Walls and corners of the room were scuffed up and or chipped. Box springs are noisy. Tv had a thin layer of dust. Coffee maker already had water in it and was left open. Needless to say I emptied it and ran it through a cycle. No privacy window shade on a ground level floor with the parking lot in front of the window. There was a beat-up blackout shade and faux drapes. Bathroom door had some sort of black trim hanging loose and the shampoo dispenser in the shower was no longer affixed to the wall and day in the floor. I called the front desk in the morning asking for another room. He said he would check with the manager and call me back. 3 hours later, I walked up to the front desk and was told unless I'm staying a 3rd night, we would not be moved because "larger groups arriving today." At least the water was hot and the towels were clean. Definitely a disappointment, especially being a HH Diamond member. If you love the sounds of the freight or Amtrak trains blowing their horns, this particular building facing the tracks is perfect. read more

HORRIBLE!!!!!! I stayed here in October and my room had a portable AC with an air hose out the window. The whole thing was taped to the open window which was a security concern. The heating and cooling unit did not work effectively and it was super loud. After the first of my 2 night stay, I asked to be moved and the new room was fine. A full 60 days later, I reluctantly booked this hotel again because I was coming in late at night on the train and the station is across the street. I was given the very same room, except this time they added an air purifier next to the huge portable heating and cooling appliance that was still taped to an open window,. I typically work when I travel and the desk space was completely taken over by all of this equipment. The heating and cooling system in this room needs to be repaired before they book it with any other guests. It's insane that they're continuing to book a room that is not secure and has inadequate climate control. read more

We had a reservation for two rooms including one with handicapped accessibility. When we showed up at 8pm, we were told our rooms were occupied and we'd have to find another place to stay. Despite our repeated requests, the staff made ZERO effort to help us find accommodations despite our special requirements and the late hour. We ended up sitting in our car making phone calls and eventually found two rooms though neither were accessible. The Hilton not only offered no help, they rudely brushed off a request for compensation since the last minute prices were substantially higher than our reserved room rates. My choice hotel to stay when I'm working in the Sacramento area. Hotel parking is a problem most times, the hotel elevator was not working for days, there's only one BTW (I was there for 3). By the way don't those guys make like $100 plus an hour? How is it not fixed??? However, lugging your suitcase up a flight of stairs is not the business. As a Diamond Member for Hilton you figure they'd shoot you some of those very sought after points right? (Hint) Rooms are standard, my room this last stay had blood on the rug between the bed and TV. Overall it was fine, it did the job. I think it's a bit overpriced. There were a few minor red flags I noticed. Example: ice machine on my floor was not working, and was behind plastic that said "excuse our mess" - I wondered how long that had been there. I used the machine on the next floor. But still, it makes getting ice into more of a production than I was hoping. The elevator panel -- with all the buttons on it - I noticed that when you pressed a floor button, the entire panel moves against wall of the elevator, I am sure this is not ideal. But hey, it worked. I also noticed the elevator permit expired in November 2021, (about 13 months ago). That's not reassuring. Also there were metal on metal scapes/scuffs on the elevator door, i.e. the door must be travelling slightly askew as it opens and closes along that rocky path. Also, the whole elevator sort of clicks and pops and sides while you go between floors. Okay enough on the elevator. Thermostat - granted I only have a liberal arts degree, but I could not for the life of me figure out how to work the thermostat. I did figure out how to change it from celsius to fahrenheit which make me slightly happy. Luckily the room temp was about 70 anyway. I will attach a pic of it. It seems you need to be an electrical engineer to work it. The light switch in the bathroom - it provides excellent amounts of illumination! This is great. It also works by motion sensor. Also great! Except when it's 4am and you need to use the bathroom. That's when, upon walking into the restroom in a half sleep, you are suddenly blinded as your retina is fried to a crisp with the force of a thousand suns. Luckily I learned to anticipate it and quickly shut it off. If there was a way to permanently disable the motion sensor aspect, that'd be super. Last and NOT least scenario, the TRAIN. Yes, other reviews are correct, no matter how deep of a sleep I was in, no matter how fantastic a dream I was being sung to in REM sleep, the train and it's robust horn would reliably wake the living heck out of me at around 2am and 5am if I recall correctly. Maybe I was just on the wrong side of the hotel. Aside from those issues, I think I'd stay there again if they fix those issues. read more

Parking $15 but meets basic needs Our room is 243. It has: Bathroom, microwave, Kreig coffee, tiny tiny frig, 2 queen beds, TV and lots of plug with USB access. WIFI included. There is no gym here. Everything here is basic and it is not in a bad way. The nightly cost is fair but breakfast and parking is not included. $15 per night for parking and breakfast buffet is $10. Consider it's not $40 parking and $18 breakfast like other places, I think it is reasonable. The place is clean and fairly modern. The location is well situated walking distant to the UC Davis administration office and its Arboretum. There is a lot of restaurants, bakeries and coffee shops within 5 minute walk. If you have an EV, don't count on a charger in the building, but there is one charger at the train station and one charger north of the hotel. Both are about 3 minute walk and they are level 1 charger, free but parking permit may be needed if you come on the weekdays (check the signs) For Level 2, chargers, you will need to walk about 8-10 minutes to Bank of America where there are Electricity America stations. read more

If you don't want to be awakened at 4:30 am by a blaring train horn and then kept awake by passing trains every 30-45 minutes with more blaring horns, then avoid this hotel. I cannot believe they charge $200/night for what is essentially a sleepless night. At a minimum, they should reinforce their windows so they are more sound proof. As a regular Hilton customer, I'm disappointed in Hilton and I feel scammed, in addition to being very tired. Additionally, the hallway had a very funky smell and the bed comforters are a really cheap polyester that feels very icky. If my child ends up at UC Davis, you can be sure I will be staying elsewhere. read more

I travel to a lot of soccer trnys with child. I like Hilton points so that is why we stayed here for the Davis legacy soccer trny which my kids team won their age division. Great location right in downtown. Happy they had 20 minute parking right in front of hotel so easy check in. The room was average size with average finishes. Biggest complaints were electronic key did not work correctly and when I checked in they said hotel had no hot water. I thought it was slightly over priced but that is the new normal. Lobby was clean and nice. I did not get to eat breakfast. Parking in garage was sufficient. No pool. Front desk was polite and nice. I was going to give 4 stars but no hot water is hard to overcome. read more

Nice hotel except the train goes by every hour!! Also really expensive for what you get!! Breakfast was terrible!! I don't mind paying for nice places. This was ridiculous!! read more
