The hype was worth it. The food was delicious, the ambiance was out of this world and the waitstaff was attentive yet unobtrusive and was able to anticipate our needs and keep us happy. Located in the Elora Mill area which seems to be a heritage site and has a quaint historic town vibe. Parking isn't available directly next to the restaurant so you park and walk across a bridge over a beautiful water mill feature which is obviously the name sake for the area. Parking isn't available complimentary so don't forget to get it validated once you walk in or are leaving the restaurant but obviously before you get back to your car otherwise your only options will be to pay out of pocket or make the trek over the bridge and back to the restaurant. Neither option is great and will leave a sour taste after your lovely experience at the restaurant. We had appetizers, drinks and main meals. My 3 brunch companions went with vegan options but I opted for a chicken dish which exceeded my expectations with its sheer size and deliciousness. The chicken was breaded and what was obvious to me was that the panko breading was well seasoned and elevated the dish to another level. The accompanying fries were divine. I also had a small salad which was fresh and crunchy and delicious. The entire experience was a 20 out of 10. From our seat overlooking the water we could see patrons at the associated spa in their robes on the roof deck enjoying what looked to be food from the restaurant. I could see myself coming back for the spa and lunch experience with libations on the roof deck.

From the moment I arrived, there was a noticeable lack of professionalism and attention to guest needs. The room I was assigned had a stale odor, and despite notifying the staff, the issue was not adequately addressed. The cleanliness of the room left much to be desired, with visible stains on the bedding and a general sense of neglect. The staff's attitude was indifferent, and it felt as though my concerns were dismissed rather than addressed. Additionally, the amenities promised were either unavailable or in poor condition, contributing to an overall disappointing stay. Considering the price paid for the room, I expected a much higher standard of service and comfort. Unfortunately, my experience at [Hotel Name] has left me with a negative impression, and I would not recommend it to fellow travelers. I hope this feedback prompts necessary improvements in your services.

It's fairly new ... it opened in March 2014. From what I understand, it's the only hotel in Fergus (though there are B 'n Bs). Our room was $116/night. The king bed was comfy! Parking, WIFI and a continental breakfast (cereal, yogurt, toast, pastries, breakfast sandwiches, etc.) from 6:30am to 9:30am were complimentary. There was a mini fridge and microwave oven in the room. Mosaic Spa, which we went to yesterday, is attached to the hotel. There are lots of services across the street ... gas station,Walmart, Beer Store, liquor store, KFC,etc. My only complaint is where our room was ... it was right over the entrance and our view was obstructed by the overhang. Granted, the view was of the Walmart across the street but still ... Considering we stayed here on a Sunday and Monday night and our car was one of the few in the parking lot, I bet they could have given us a room with a better view. I would stay here again if I came to Fergus.

Check-in was fast, even with the long lines. What's interesting is that the front desk has these little assorted vitamin tablets to put in your complimentary water bottle. I've never seen that before, but maybe that's what happens in a country with socialized healthcare. I totally appreciate that! The room itself was clean. The AC worked fine. I find that the air can be dry in hotel rooms, but I didn't experience any issues. The lobby has a lot of seating. The on-site restaurant had good food and great service. The staff was VERY patient with my big and loud family, which I also appreciate. The property isn't too far from shopping and restaurants. Though it was summer so the weather was nice. I can't imagine walking in the middle of winter, though I guess walking would be safer than driving for me since I'm not used to driving in the snow. The nearest grocery store is like a 5-min walk so it is doable. I recommend this Marriott property if you need a place to stay in Waterloo since it's close to restaurants, shopping, and the university.

Bathroom is large and well lit and the towels are nice and large. Front desk staff were friendly and helpful. The free WiFi is very good or you have the option to upgrade if you're doing something that requires a lot of refreshes. We had no problem watching Netflix and doing work without the upgrade. Parking costs additional - $12 per night at time of review. There is a small garage and lot adjacent and a large parking area beneath the hotel. There are electric charging spaces available also. Facilities include an on-site restaurant serving breakfast and dinner. There's also an indoor pool, sauna and gym. Everything is clean and modern and the central location can't be beat - highly recommend.

As far as the hotel itself is concerned, it's a basic, no fancy style. The staff is really nice and the amenities are minimal (maybe it's the Marriott thing). The breakfast buffet is mediocre in variety. I asked for an egg white omelette which was extremely greasy and had yolks. They charged me $4.49 for my coffee on day 1, $3.50 on day 2 and $1.53 for day 3. For-the-exact-same-coffee. I think it was a little nuts. I called the front desk to ask about this strange coffee pricing anomaly and they didn't seem to get it.

Truly a pet friendly hotel -- though there was a pet fee, it was a very reasonable flat $20 fee. Unfortunately this was a very quick trip in and out to take one of our dogs to the local Ontario Veterinary College for an MRI. I hope to return sometime for a longer stay to enjoy the hotel's amenities and relaxing atmosphere. We had a room with two queen beds that was larger than the typical hotel room. There was a small refrigerator and a very long desk. There was a cordless phone and an alarm clock that not only showed you the time on the front but also displayed the time on each side so you could see it as you were lying in bed. We were surprised to find a nice note from the manager welcoming us as a Marriott Rewards member. We were using a certificate for 1 night's free stay and as a thank you for choosing their hotel we had a delicious plate of fresh berries and exquisite chocolate as a welcoming gift. The bathroom area was separated by a pocket door so that the toilet and the shower tub combination are separate from the sink and two very large mirrors which were great for putting on makeup and having counter space for your Essentials. I don't think the hotel was very full on a Sunday night, I found the rooms to be very quiet and relaxing. All of the staff welcomed our three dogs and seemed very happy to have them there even sharing photos with us of their own dogs. Why not 5 stars vs. 4? Sorry, I'm spoiled by hotels that always have coffee/tea available in the lobby and complimentary breakfast. I'm not ready to pay $15.95 for a buffet breakfast. The hotel's location is also very convenient as it is literally adjacent to the University of Guelph campus, 5 minutes to the Ontario Veterinary College, in less than 10 minutes to the downtown retail/restaurant area.

This hotel looks newer which is really nice to see as most hotels often have been around a while. The interior welcomes you with a nice spiral staircase to the next floor. (you enter on the 2nd floor BTW). There is a bell at the front desk if no one is manning the area. The rooms are nice with a sitting area and bedroom area. there is one TV that can be faced into either area for viewing and a nice little wet bar with fridge. One the first floor you will find a spa along with the pool and workout room. The machines in the workout room look very dated and only one treadmill seemed to want to work. In the same parking lot is a Boston Pizza so you don't have to go far for dinner and the hotel serves complimentary breakfast in the morning. The really nice part is that they have real eggs, not powdered or preformed ones you find in other places. From the hotel you are short drive to shopping and restaurants. And if you like to take long walks/hikes the preservation area is close by. You can walk the trails for free but if you want to park it's $5. They will take US currency on a 1 for 1 exchange or the front desk will exchange small amounts for you. Internet seems to work pretty well with few issues. Overall I am pleased with this hotel, and having never stayed at a Best Western I may not overlook them the next time I am looking for a hotel.

I had called two nights before my stay to confirm the details and to also request if we could possibly check in a bit early due to the timing of the wedding and time we needed to get ready. The woman I spoke to said she would note it but could not promise anything. I understood that but was happy to have the request in. Normally check in is 3pm, she said she would try for 2pm. I was pleasantly surprised when we were able to check in around 1:45. That was so much help for us as we'd traveled a long way to make this wedding and need just a few extra minutes to take a break and get ready. The bed was extremely comfortable and the bathroom was spacious and modern. Didn't feel crammed into the room. The coffee in the room was not great. I like the easy set up of the machine but the coffee didn't taste very good. The coffee available downstairs in the lobby was much better. I do not expect to be in the area again so I don't see myself returning but if I did, I would happily stay again.

Front desk girl, Macklyn, was polite and friendly and gave us our key cards to room. Upon entering room, noticed that room had definitely not been cleaned. A magnet was still affixed to the door on the outside alerting of a pet in the room (and we had NO pet with us). The tile floor in the kitchen had not been swept. The dishwasher was loaded with dishes. There was soap scum and hair in the tub and only one towel for two people for a 3-day stay. Beds looked hurriedly made. Frantically drove to nearby Dollarama to pick up basic cleaning supplies (on Christmas Eve) to clean room only to discover the sole light that was over the tub/shower was leaking water. Informed front desk and they asked me if I wanted to change rooms. (Were pleasant and accommodating but seemed truly unfazed by the situation). Changed rooms and newest room, while slightly better (in terms of having been cleaned), detected a faint pet odor in bedroom. Again, dishes had been left in the dishwasher. Retrieved a couple of bowls from cupboard to find food caked on them. BREAKFAST: continental. Not huge selection, mostly cold options such as yogurt, muffins, fruit. Sufficient space to accommodate seating and tables were clean. Was surprised to find out that there was no 24 hr coffee made available to guests in lobby/restaurant area - just water with lemon. Also, Manager's reception is usually offered each Wednesday (and Christmas was on Wednesday), but they did not offer that. Instead, Front desk told me to call the following day to inquire if something was "going to take place." I guess they were unsure themselves? Called Christmas Day at 3pm to see if anything being offered in lobby/restaurant area. No answer at front desk. Phone rang at least a dozen times. Made numerous calls in the span of 15 minutes and no one picked up at front desk. Went down at 5pm (as that is when the Manager's reception would normally be, from 5-6:30pm) to find out that there had been a few trays of cookies and squares and hot chocolate. By then, only a few squares and cookies remained. The hotel could have informed their guests by a note on their door, or a courtesy call to inform when they were planning on putting out something. Should not have been the guests responsibility to call down to see when or if something was taking place. Disappointing, to say the least! CHECKING OUT: Upon leaving, I called down to front desk to see if housekeeping or busperson (do they still have those?) could bring up a luggage carousel and no one was available to do that. Up to the guest to be responsible for that. OVERALL IMPRESSION: will not be returning to this hotel again. Advice: fire housekeeping staff or at the very least, retrain staff and follow up by checking rooms to ensure highest cleaning standards are being met. (I also note that when I had to go down to return my old room key, another guest was complaining of their room not being clean, mentioning that their dishwasher was stacked with dishes, not having been unloaded). I was compensated with two bottles of complimentary water for our troubles in having to switch rooms. No monetary offer to reduce the amount on my total bill, or an offer to stay a free night. Just an overall frustrating experience.
