Our room looked nice: a huge jacuzzi tub in the corner (not in the bathroom). Quaint and beautifully decorated (old school inn vibe). BUT: A lot of things do not work. Air con does not work at all. Room got stuffy. Jacuzzi tub? Water is leaking into it from the faucet. In the bathroom there is no shower gel (they put lots of moisturizer, shampoo, etc). Must be an oversight by housekeeping. No in-room safe either. Windows can only open tiny bit (we needed to open windows for fresh air). Elevator so slow, glacial speed. Staircase was nowhere to be found! Several times we were in a hurry ... and the backlog was just crazy. Breakfast: why open the restaurant only at 8 am!? Too late for conferences. Slow service. Spotty too. They forgot our yoghurt parfait. Everything is slow here. If you stay here, better not be in a hurry. Nothing will get done in time. Breakfast itself is alright (see photos). Hosts Kim and Kevin are so welcoming and knowledgeable about all the doings in Stratford. The house is impeccably decorated, with tons of books to read and spaces to sit outside and enjoy the gardens. Refrigerators for personal use. Rooms and beds are comfortable and many have private decks. Tea and cookies always available. The most wonderful thing is that a big thermos of coffee is brought up into hallway in early morning for self serve. How great is that? No getting dressed! Outstanding ample breakfast each day featuring top notch very fresh and innovative breakfast items. A station with granola, fresh breads, croissants, biscuits and homemade jams starts one off. Then a hot item of astonishing quality. Dietary restrictions accommodated. Cannot wait to return next year!

Normally, I am not…read moreinclined to opt for a B & B, but I am very pleased that I put aside my normal doubts and gave the Old Rectory a go. Making my arrangements to stay here was very easy. Kevin got back to me immediately and replied to my inquiry and we quickly and efficiently arranged everything. My friend and I arrived a bit earlier than we'd initially indicated, but both Kevin and Kim were welcoming and helpful. We were shown to a reasonable sized room on the second floor and all necessary amenities were explained to us. The decor of the place wasn't really my cup of tea, but the room was clean and cozy, so I can put aside my own personal aesthetic. The private bathroom was a decent size and well laid out. The bed was a wee bit smaller than I'd imagined, but it was very comfortable. My favourite part of my stay though hands down had to be my breakfast! Because Kevin and Kim knew we had an early start, they got breakfast going extra early for us. We started with freshly baked croissants, lemon poppy seed cake, and assorted fresh berries. DEELISH! Then we had poached eggs with hollandaise sauce with heirloom tomato on a wonderfully salty rosti. SO SO GOOD!!! The eggs were cooked to perfection and the splash of pesto on the tomato added a perfect kick. I was in heaven. I love coming to Stratford to see the theatre. Next year, I am totally coming back here, but I am going to make sure that I have dinner at the Old Rectory too!

This was our first stay together at a Bed and Breakfast and we were thrilled beyond all expectations. The property itself is a wonderfully cared for 1873 Victorian mansion. The interior is a pleasant balance of eclectic and period appropriate décor, with stunning wallpaper and interesting knick-knacks throughout the edifice. We stayed in La Grande Chambre, and were extremely pleased with the layout, which included a well-appointed bathroom, and a nicely sized makeup area. Moving into the main bedroom, we were delighted with the comfortable king-size bed, a nicely carved wardrobe and a multitude of shaded windows. Each morning greeted us with a new breakfast menu with a couple of delicious choices, preceded by a scrumptious appetizer. Each day's breakfast ended up being a fun and tasty treat. The location of the inn was another pleasant surprise, as it is situated minutes away from the downtown area, and close to the Stratford Festival theatres. The inn is also a few steps away from the wonderful walking paths along the Avon river. Fortuitously, the Stone Maiden is tucked far enough out of the way that we felt sheltered from the hustle and bustle, which comes with a tourist city. All in all, the inn and meals were absolutely spectacular, yet they paled in comparison to the geniality of our host. Upon meeting Tim, we could tell that this was a man who loved his job and took pride in not only the inn but also the hospitality he offered to each of his guests. Tim radiated positivity and exuded all the qualities of a true hotelier. Tim and Johanne turned a great stay into a perfect one. Not only will we be back to the Stone Maiden Inn on our next trip to Stratford, we will recommend it to any that are looking to visit. Beata and James

Majer's Motel is one of the most affordable accommodations you could find in Stratford…read more Conveniently located right off Highway 8, it has everything you need for your stay. Obviously, for a motel, you should not expect anything beyond basic necessities. If you only need a place to sleep, Majer's Motel is your best option to save. Some of the amenities that I do care about and was satisfied with: free parking, hot water, heat (can be adjusted), quiet rooms, safe (plenty of locks), clean, basic toiletries, and towels. The motel is family-owned and the lady accommodated my request for early check-ins. There's also light breakfast provided. My main purpose to Stratford was the Festival, if I wanted luxurious living then I wouldn't be in Stratford. If you're doing a road trip and just need somewhere to rest, I recommend staying here as opposed to the expensive downtown hotels.

Located just a few minutes from Stratford, we made the drive over and found a huge Victorian home transformed into a five star restaurant. PH offers indoor and outdoor seating. The grounds are coupled with loads tea lights, beautiful flowers and jazz standards filling the air. We were met by our friendly server, Kara, who gave us a great table on the large wrap around porch. She walked us through the menu and was spot on with all her information and recommendations. She was hard working and attentive without being intrusive or bothersome. Kara became part of the experience. The food was something to behold. First, each dish was a visual work of art. The skill and passion of the chef's are on full display whether you order the Braised Ribs or the Fried Chicken Sandwich. Those were the entrees we chose with Kara's help and we couldn't have been more delighted. Everything was prepared to perfection. The ingredients were fresh and no detail was overlooked or dismissed. In fact, my wife and I agree that the fried chicken sandwich may have been the best fried chicken sandwich we had ever eaten. The breading was light and spiced and the glaze that was drizzled on top was the clincher. The homemade chips and dip were the perfect side along with the sweet pickles. The Braised ribs were delicious and the assortment of grilled and puréed veggies not only made a beautiful plate, but a magnificent bite. Finally, no birthday celebration is complete without desert. We ordered the crème brûlée flavored with maple and pecans. It was cooked perfectly and was a perfect end to a perfect meal. We were also given a birthday bowl with an ice cream based specialty of the house. I still don't know what they do, but it was the lightest and most delicate ice cream dish we have ever had. Lord oh lord. This is Christmas. This is as good as it gets! After attending my client Christmas party, I was left alone to further my own party. For a Toronto boy, the scenary that I had in my field of vision was "A Wonderful Life." A fully restored and renovated home on the downtown New Hamburg road has many surprises. It is a Bed and Breakfast hotel with impeccable food, wine, and other fine spirits. They have a spa next door and a beautiful banquet hall to the back of the property. Nick Cressman is the manager and the Cressman family have taken to hospitality with small town flair. I've had the pleasure of staying here a couple of times and dining a few more times. I would stay here more often, but as I have to pay for my stays and not expensed to my client, it has to be on special occasions. For those of you who would be staying in Kitchener, Waterloo, or even Stratord - this would be a great stop for you. It is smack in the middle. - 20mins to Kitchener or Stratford. Puddicombe's menu is very well put together for their restaurant. Fine linens, comfortable chairs, and small inviting rooms combined with excellent service makes for a very fine dining experience. When choosing a room in the winter, see if you can upgrade to one with a fireplace. This will avoid the fan noises from the heat exchanger - if you are a light sleeper. Rooms are well appointed with comfortable beds, cable tv and high speed internet (which at times were a bit problematic). Only if I can get them to increase the shower water pressure, we can bump up the review a few more enthusiastic notches. As I wind down my client engagement in this small and very pretty town, I will still endeavour to find my way back here once in a while. Cue the Christmas tunes again... Cheers!

The location was close to everything and anywhere that I walked was welcome exercise full of beautiful scenery. Tony and Laura are wonderful hosts and all-around lovely people. Laura's breakfast was incredibly delicious and Tony's hospitable conversation could not be beat. The separate dining tables are a special touch because they allow privacy for the guest who prefers it, but they are close enough together to allow convivial conversation amongst others who want to chat. If you're looking for a charming, central B&B with exceptional hosts, delicious breakfasts and relaxing accommodations, Duggan Place is the spot for you in Stratford.

Comfy chic meets Victorian style. The house is a Victorian style home with up to date inviting furniture. The bedrooms are beautifully decorated with extremely comfortable beds and bedding. Each room had their own bathroom with all modern amenities and wonderful fluffy towels. It felt like home away from home. After a wonderful sleep, we had the most delicious breakfast served. The fruit plate was presented like a piece of art. So fresh and tasty. Followed by another artfully plated egg frittata. The owners, Anthony and Laura are absolutely lovely and I thoroughly enjoyed our conversations. I will absolutely be staying here again and not just for Theatre reasons. What a great place for a little weekend getaway to relax, rest and recharge. Perfect for one or a couples retreat or a girls weekend away.

We arrived and it was a quick check-in project. It took WAY too long to find the room but we eventually got there. Requests were attended to quickly and if you're looking for a bed with your regular room accessories. This place meets the expectations but definitely does not exceed it. The pool was large, a little cooler than we expected. We had the pool to our self which was fun. The hot tub that's advertised does not exist and the sauna was out of order. There is no longer breakfast on site but they partner with Stackt which is a few minutes away. Staff seemed knowledgeable although someone at the desk was just learning the ropes. Everyone seemed accommodating. Price point was fair for what we got. We didn't need anything fancy just a safe, clean place to rest our head and it did that. If I need a bed, pool and not much more this is a good choice. If you want something on the nicer side, this is not the place. At the right price I would definitely go back.

Yup...trailers, power tools, and riding lawn mowers - come to think of it, I think I would have a blast there! Back to the Inn. I got there and I had some hopes. They sent me off to the back where there were rows of mini-rooms. After getting my stuff in, and swatting a moth the size of a cicada - ugh really!?! - I tried to get on the WiFi and couldn't. Called the front desk and they say only wired in the outside suites. I told them that most modern portables (notebooks, tablets, and the like) no longer have network ports on them and that I would be checking out. That is when they offered me the place in the main building. The WiFi was spotty but enough to get my work done and check Yelp for more info on the place. After reading about bed bugs, I tossed the whole bed and took the sheets off to inspect it. Found no bugs and decided that I will stay there - too late now to go elsewhere. Went to the front desk and asked if the bar was open - nope - how about the restaurant - nope. Really? I don't think it was even 8PM or maybe it was 9PM. Got in the car and drove a few minutes to Crabby Joes - name tells you how I felt. Next morning rise and shine, I forgo'd the breaky and left as soon as possible. 2 stars for a 2 star Inn. Cheers.

The rooms (with decks or patios) are generous, the beds are comfortable and the closed-in porch and living room is a great place to read the papers or meet up with friends. The hosts provide substantial information on restaurants and current things to do before or after the plays. We've stayed there twice recently, and brought friends who loved it as well, and wouldn't want to be anywhere else when we go to Stratford.

Our room faced the road and it felt like we were downtown Toronto. Besides the road noises, the beds were too short and rooms tiny with no space for even a table. The walls are very thin and you can hear your neighbors talk, cough, sneeze, snore, etc. like they're right next to you. Definitely not the Stratford experience we expected and we were glad to leave after four days.
