Hosts Kim and Kevin are so welcoming and knowledgeable about all the doings in Stratford. The house is impeccably decorated, with tons of books to read and spaces to sit outside and enjoy the gardens. Refrigerators for personal use. Rooms and beds are comfortable and many have private decks. Tea and cookies always available. The most wonderful thing is that a big thermos of coffee is brought up into hallway in early morning for self serve. How great is that? No getting dressed! Outstanding ample breakfast each day featuring top notch very fresh and innovative breakfast items. A station with granola, fresh breads, croissants, biscuits and homemade jams starts one off. Then a hot item of astonishing quality. Dietary restrictions accommodated. Cannot wait to return next year!

Kevin got back to me immediately and replied to my inquiry and we quickly and efficiently arranged everything. My friend and I arrived a bit earlier than we'd initially indicated, but both Kevin and Kim were welcoming and helpful. We were shown to a reasonable sized room on the second floor and all necessary amenities were explained to us. The decor of the place wasn't really my cup of tea, but the room was clean and cozy, so I can put aside my own personal aesthetic. The private bathroom was a decent size and well laid out. The bed was a wee bit smaller than I'd imagined, but it was very comfortable. My favourite part of my stay though hands down had to be my breakfast! Because Kevin and Kim knew we had an early start, they got breakfast going extra early for us. We started with freshly baked croissants, lemon poppy seed cake, and assorted fresh berries. DEELISH! Then we had poached eggs with hollandaise sauce with heirloom tomato on a wonderfully salty rosti. SO SO GOOD!!! The eggs were cooked to perfection and the splash of pesto on the tomato added a perfect kick. I was in heaven. I love coming to Stratford to see the theatre. Next year, I am totally coming back here, but I am going to make sure that I have dinner at the Old Rectory too!

Beautiful decor! It is so elegant and heavenly white with classical or piano concerto playing in the background!! The dining area could not have been anymore romantic and intimate. My beau and I loved the open brunch table in the centre of the main dining area, where you can get endless servings of fruits including strawberries, pineapples, and dragonfruits!! We have never eaten dragonfruits for brunch at any hotel before! So exotic! We ate so many slices. Service was a collective team effort and everyone was welcoming, attentive and super friendly. I can tell that they all enjoyed working there from their seemingly genuine smiles and bubbly personalities! The food there was so good!! Everything was cooked to perfection! We had their prix Fixe Easter brunch special and it was worth every dollar!! What a beautiful way to celebrate both Easter and my beau's birthday!! My beau was so impressed and thankful of me for booking and paying for brunch here that he is planning to treat me here next year for his not so surprising proposal!!! When the staff knew of his plans, the receptionist immediately gave us a tour of their suites and amenities!! What excellent and attentive service!! I will definitely come back here in the near future for a couple retreat or weekend getaway!! Stratford is such a cute town with so many good restaurants and hotels open during their famous and busy Stratford Festival season, but this hotel and restaurant really stood out to the both of us!! 5/5 would highly recommend!!

Mercer Hotel is a small, mom-and-pop type hotel that sits atop a popular bar/restaurant. The hotel is located in front of the river, a good landmark to follow to get to the theater. My room was quite spacious, with a view of the main drag. The bathroom was small though. My friends' was considerably smaller and darker - we both paid the same price. We were all settled in before we discovered the difference; I would have offered to trade otherwise. The room included the requisite desk and flat-screen TV. As well, I liked the very comfy chairs in room, perfect for reading or doing the mini crossword on the NYT app. The hotel was in close proximity to coffee and shopping - is there anything more that is needed on a weekend? I appreciate that we were allowed to book only one day of the weekend. It seemed that many hotels wanted to maximize profits with guests for the entire weekend. Our room generously included parking in a nearby lot. Check-in occurred behind the bar. It seemed a bit chaotic contributing to a clerical error - I was charged for both mine and my friend's rooms. A few other things to note: (1) the bed was harder than what I am accustomed to and (2) there is no elevator.

Lots of restaurants, cafes, high end pubs, boutique stores, gift shops, chocolateries, and various other attractions are within immediate proximity. We didn't need our car at all. The restaurant downstairs (which is called Mercer Hall, and is the ground floor of the hotel) is excellent. And I may write a separate review for it later. Mentioning it here because you can literally walk downstairs from your room and have access to an upscale dining option. The hotel staff were great. Brooke at the front desk was super helpful getting us checked in / settled in, and communicating when I had questions. Everyone we interacted with throughout our stay was friendly. The room was cozy and comfortable. It was also really ROMANTIC. Fireplace + jacuzzi jetted tub + king size bed. Use your imagination. ------ Overall it was an A+ experience; but there are a couple caveats to be aware of: * Parking is somewhat confusing. If you're facing the front of the hotel, there is an alleyway on the right you need to drive into. Then after driving a bit there is a lot to the right that has spaces with "Mercer guest" signs on each. * Stairs, stairs, stairs. There is no elevator, so either pack light or be prepared to get your lifting workout in. The hotel is really a beautiful historic building. But it's also a maze of staircases. Neither of these were a problem for us, but the stairs in particular might not be ideal for those who have knee issues, for example.

Our room looked nice: a huge jacuzzi tub in the corner (not in the bathroom). Quaint and beautifully decorated (old school inn vibe). BUT: A lot of things do not work. Air con does not work at all. Room got stuffy. Jacuzzi tub? Water is leaking into it from the faucet. In the bathroom there is no shower gel (they put lots of moisturizer, shampoo, etc). Must be an oversight by housekeeping. No in-room safe either. Windows can only open tiny bit (we needed to open windows for fresh air). Elevator so slow, glacial speed. Staircase was nowhere to be found! Several times we were in a hurry ... and the backlog was just crazy. Breakfast: why open the restaurant only at 8 am!? Too late for conferences. Slow service. Spotty too. They forgot our yoghurt parfait. Everything is slow here. If you stay here, better not be in a hurry. Nothing will get done in time. Breakfast itself is alright (see photos). Restaurant is beautiful with stained glasses. All clients seem to have retired. There's a retirement home vibe ...

Even a friendly nod would have been appreciated. When the lady did check us in she caught and us that there were quite a few high school and little school hockey teams so it was probably going to get loud at times. The first evening was great, it wasn't very loud as the kids had not checked in yet. The next day was another story. in the afternoon, what appeared to be middle school kids, and probably their younger siblings essentially overtook the hallways with yelling and screaming while running around. Several rooms opened up the doors and told the kids to quiet down and finally some fathers came out to kind of help ensure that the kids were quiet. The hotel does have a 10 PM curfew but the fathers said the kids had a 9 PM curfew. That sounded perfect.! Later that evening, all hell broke loose as the teenagers got wild in the hallways. They ran around slamming into walls and doors. They yelled and swore (f-bombs). Long story short, many rooms ended up calling the front desk to complain in police were eventually called out as it was 1130 at night. One room in particular was very bad, across the hall from us, and the police entered that bedroom at some point The next morning, I went to the front desk and asked if they knew if the coach of these teenagers was still around. Of course, they said they had no idea. I hope the coach finds out how horribly these teenagers acted and removed them from the games this weekend. But the way these entitled teens were acting , I highly doubt it. The hotel also said that each room had to have an adult chaperone, but there was no way an adult was in some of these bedrooms. The yelling and roughhousing in the rooms just would not have occurred if a parent was in there, so I really am doubting what the hotel said about each room needing a chaperone. Would I come back here again? Possibly but I would definitely make sure that there was not going to be any sports teams staying there.

From the contactless checkin process, the quaint modern industrial vibe of our room, and ideal location within walking distance to the river and nearby restaurants and Shakespearean gardens, we can't say enough great things about PCI. Brendan the property manager was attentive and replied quickly to any queries we had. The bed was comfortable. My only complaint was that the pillows could have been loftier. They provide a small bar fridge and kettle for hot water. Towels, hand soap, shampoo, and body wash were among the toiletries provided. PCI is on the quiet end of the main road in Stratford, and within 5-10 minutes walk to so many other great shops and restaurants. We enjoyed tacos from adjoining El Cactus, which shares a patio with the entrance to this boutique hotel. I highly recommend checking out Edison's Cafe (affiliated with sister property Edison's Inn) which has amazing coffees and teas and incredible gluten-free baked goods. Parking on site was so convenient. It really was the perfect place to venture away for our first overnight pandemic trip away from home. Would definitely consider returning to Perth County Inn during our next stay in Stratford.
