I have a good friend whose Grandmother lives at Fauquier Health Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. My friend is in constantly to visit her Grandmother - and she does volunteer work at Fauquier Health Rehabilitation and Nursing Center as well. She volunteered to take me on a tour of the facility. I was astonished at the difference in ambiance. The place felt good - it has a nice vibe to it. And it was clean. The staff are on top of everything. She knew many of the residents and we stopped and chatted with some in the hallway, in the dining room - everyone was so happy here! We visited with her Grandmother for a while and she told me several times how much she likes the place. She commented to me several times that the food is very good. I asked my friend what the response times were on average when a resident pressed the "call" button. She told me around 30 seconds or so. Fauquier Health Rehabilitation and Nursing Center is fully committed to the Planetree patient-centered care alliance. The Planetree philosophy is a holistic approach to patient care that encompasses the body, mind and spirit, and encourages the participation of family and friends in care and rehabilitation. http://planetree.org/ The facility is very popular due to their level of care and service. Pro tip: if you person in the facility needs something specific it is best to go every day. Nearly every time someone from my family could not see my dad for a day he would get dehydrated. Also keep an eye on a catheter if they have one. If and when they are changed keep an eye that the bag is filling (gross, but important). The other good thing about this facility is how close it is to fauquier hospital, in case something happens. There are different wings depending on need. The rooms are rather small, but do the job. There is a small area for visitng with drinks and coffee and water. there is also free internet.

A special shout-out to the nursing staff for their professionalism and for being quick to respond whenever I had a question or issue. My parents love the food, they get help with their showers, and the caregiving team truly looks them over to make sure everything physically is going well. (One caregiver found my moms leg swollen and it was discovered she had a blod clot.) Had it not been for her looking out and paying attention to the leg change this could have turned into a stroke. I'm positive this would not have been caught at the other place I had my parents. Not the care we signed up for. This was my first experience with assisted living and didn't think…read moreof all of the "what ifs" to ask. When considering to move my loved one into Commonwealth Senior Living (CSL) in Front Royal, the office manager (?) promised a credit to their fee schedule, and made generalized markings on the fee schedule document. This promised credit was not added to the contract, and we naively thought they would honor their promise. My loved one required a higher level of care, which CSL quickly offered, and naturally came at a higher cost ($35/day). I didn't think about, "what if they're hospitalized?" Not too long after my loved one moved in, they were hospitalized. We were understandably billed for the room, but also for the higher level of care (about ten days, on two different occasions). When we contacted the office manager, she said to pay the higher level of care cost (the additional $35+ daily cost) to avoid any late fees and a credit would be issued the next month. This happened the following month also. [I should add that CSL was unable to provide the level of care my loved one needed but did not let the family know this.] No discounted fee credits (promised) were ever issued, nor were the credits issued for the daily level of care while they were hospitalized. Multiple phone calls, even trips to the office resulted in no response or credit given. My loved one passed and didn't give the required 30-day notice. Another important "what if" question that should have been asked. Two years of trying to get resolution, no response from the Front Royal office. I finally elevated the issue to the corporate level, which prompted a response from the Front Royal office, not to answer my questions and concerns but to give me an option of having a zero balance (since my loved one passed prior to giving the 30-day notice), and to a two-day deadline to decide. CSL's contract has obviously developed from a well learned business view, however, it is not a win/win contract for people looking for a place for their loved one to be looked after and cared for.

As a 3 year and recently resigned employee, I have a unique perspective to offer…read more The nursing staff, and actual people that provide the daily care for and make a difference in the lives of the residents at Caton, are without a doubt, the very best! Administration and management, not so much. The building is in terrible disrepair and the so called "Manager of Plant and Physical Safety," has held this position for so long and without question, that he no longer even pretends to attend to needed repairs or to the requests of residents in need of service. It does no good to complain or report his laziness, as he is one of two managers here at Caton, and lives with the other. Both are long time friends, 30 plus years, of the administrator...a monopoly, so to speak. As a recent and long term employee, there is no one an employee can go to for fair and unbiased help. Example: Several months ago, an employee reported harassment by the "Manager of Plant and Physical Safety," to the administrator...and that was the end of that. Though it was stated this report would be investigated, it was not. I was the Charge Nurse just above this employee and had first hand knowledge of this situation. The "Manager of Physical Plant and Safety," actually attempted to involve me in his harassment of this employee and I refused. Since her report of the harassment, it was obvious she was no longer welcome at Caton and she was eventually bullied into resigning, as was I for reporting the same manager to the City of Manassas for building code violations. Administrator announced our census and staffing is at an UNPRECEDENTED LOW...staffing is critically, dangerously low. In a years time, we have lost 10 plus employees. Many long time employees and some new hires came for just weeks and left with no explanation... The facility has been so poorly run since the current administrator has held the position by default, Caton was sold last year by Novant Health to UVA Health, effective January 1, 2022 and 3 weeks ago, UVA Health announced, it too is shopping around for alternatives...

This place is amazing!…read more We needed to move my father into an assisted living facility when his physical and mental health made it hard for my mother to care for him alone at home. A typical nursing home would not have provided the best fit in terms of a living environment for him. My mother had a company help find my dad Golden Years and More. My mom toured other similar facilities but this one stood out from the rest. It wasn't the cheapest or most expensive place, but the "right" place. They also came to my mom's home to assess my dad's condition to make sure he was the right fit for their facility too. There is a family that lives here and cares for up to eight patients. They currently have four, I believe. The family is medically trained and three to four people are there to assist residents 24-7. They cook meals, wash laundry, assist with bathing, provide activities. This family has truly found their calling! When my father needs assistance in the middle of the night, someone is right there for him. At home with my mom he was getting up and falling down - requiring my mom to call the rescue squad to help get him off of the floor. We no longer have that problem. He is cared for by a team - a family! My dad is happy there. He moved in approximately three months ago. My mom is comforted knowing he is there. My sister and I wish he was closer to us but we know he is getting better care than he would at home. His new home is welcoming. I visit weekly and it's always a pleasant visit. Plenty of private parking. Obviously the facility is handicap accessible. Nicely decorated. Private rooms.

While my mom could be resistant to activities, Jennifer, the wonderful activities director, often got her engaged in the art, music or exercise they had going on what seemed to be daily. As my mom got sick toward the end, she required hospice support, and we were so happy she could remain at the Wellington during this time. The hospice staff along with the Wellington nursing staff made everything as peaceful as possible for her. My brother, sister, and I are very thankful for everything the Wellington staff have done for our mom.
