Our stay at The Villa Agave was a delight. The whole Villa was sumptuously decorated with exquisite textiles, natural fibers and art that made me really stop and enjoy. Because there were so many inviting nooks, it was easy to share the space with the other guests, and still felt like we had all the spacious solitude we craved. We enjoyed the wrap-around-deck for yoga and mediation. Our room was cozy, spacious and inviting. We had a sweet connection with Bonnie, the host. Her stand for environmental stewardship is an inspiration. The land was splendid, as were the sunrises. We took several turns around the hiking path and enjoyed taking family photos on the lovely patio, with the Villa's stunning architecture as our backdrop. The breakfasts during our stay were a nourishing and artful three courses with seasonal and organic morsels. My husband and I stayed here our wedding night and the night after in mid April. We arrived close to midnight after our wedding, and I had a VERY good time at my wedding, so I was really not feeling very well (we will blame it on the open bar). Bonnie was ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE! She gave my husband a hangover remedy for me to use in the morning. She served us coffee in our room in the morning (which was delicious) and made us breakfast (which was to die for!). Because I had such a rough hangover the next day, I did not feel up for doing the complementary custom tequila tasting. Bonnie assured me that we could come back anytime to experience the tequila tasting once I had recovered lol! The space is kept so clean and is decorated beautifully. Our room was also super clean, comfortable, and had incredible views. We stayed in the Anejo Suite and all the amenities worked perfectly. The lighting was bright in the restroom and it had great natural light in the room. There are also heavy duty blinds that can block out light too. I truly cannot say enough good things about this villa and about Bonnie. She really made the trip that much more special by being the most welcoming and gracious host. STAY HERE! This lovely location touches the heart from the minute you drive up, through each day you stay. Bonnie is an excellent, energetic and thoughtful host who has decorated her villa with eye candy in every corner. The rooms are all spacious and creative, the kitchen and living area wonderful for any kind of gathering. We had the most beautiful wedding at the Villa Agave. It is a wonderful property, and Bonnie is an amazing host with so much positive energy. We had looked at other places and none really fit -- too large, too small, wrong vibe -- and then we stumbled upon the Villa. In just one quick visit, we were sure we'd made the right choice, and we are so glad we did. The wedding was held on the lawn area below the house. It was verdant, and picturesque and so very memorable. After, we had a catered dinner and a musician up in the paved area. When it got colder outside, most retreated indoors, and some also enjoyed the fireplace on the terrace. The rooms are beautiful and clean. The Villa Agave has that wonderful mixture of big, natural, cozy, warm, and Bonnie makes it all so welcoming! read more

TRANSPORTED!!! Wow! From the moment we drove onto the property we were transported to a small villa in Mexico. I can't believe this place exists. What a sweet and cozy little bed and breakfast. We had a girls weekend here and it couldn't have been better. We were greeted by our host Bonnie with some welcome nibbles. The rooms were so comfortable and there are so many thoughtful details. Villa Agave is an absolute joy in every way. The villa itself is gorgeous, inside and out. Set in a peaceful and lovely spot in Placerville, be sure to explore. The architecture is a Spanish jewel, from the Saltillo tiles to the ceiling beams to the doors...the attention to detail and the special and fun decorations are delightful and showcase the love that the owner, Bonnie, has put into her bnb. The serenity is a blessing, the nature is a delight, and my suite was so comfortable, the bed was like sleeping on a cloud. The views from every window will delight you, as will the nightly serenade by the resident frogs in the fountain. Breakfast was avocado toast (SO yummy) and fresh organic fruit and terrific coffee and OJ. The surrounding Gold Country area is full of history. Be sure to explore this part of California history. What a beautiful spot to escape to and breathe in the beauty of the surrounding area. We stayed for a work retreat. What makes this place so special is the host/owner Bonnie. She thinks of every detail to make your stay so comfortable. The details in how this place is decorated is immaculate. Beautiful touches everywhere you look with a lovely combination of modern and Mexican-themed art, furniture and architecture. Paths for wandering around the 15 acre property lead to her agave farm and also to expansive views of the valley. There was plenty of space to work together and to spread out and work independently on the wrap-around decks. Breakfast on the patio was absolutely delicious and the tequila happy hour was so fun and informative. As one of California's only agave farmer, she knows her stuff! Wineries nearby. I was lucky enough to spend a few nights at the Villa Agave for a girls weekend. The place is so special! Beautiful grounds, beautiful furnishings inside, a proprietor who is immensely knowledgable about tequila and mezcal and is an excellent teacher. The bedroom I stayed in was so comfortable, and waking up the first morning to a deer staring at me when I opened the curtains was lovely! My husband and I celebrated our wedding anniversary at The Villa Agave, and we could not have asked for a better experience. While we were struck by the photos on the website before visiting, they don't do the villa justice. It sits amongst the trees and is surrounded by mountains. As soon as we arrived at the property, passing agave along the way, we knew that it was special. And that was before we met Bonnie, who was the epitome of the perfect hostess. She greeted us with a warmth and kindness that was so genuine and really just set the tone for our stay. She then proceeded to give us a tour of the beautifully crafted and designed villa, which ended with our room - the Añejo Suite. As is the case throughout the villa, the Añejo Suite is immaculately clean and sublimely comfortable, and we didn't want to leave. Had it not been for Bonnie's tequila tasting and three-course breakfast with mimosas, we may not have. Our two-night stay at The Villa Agave was far too short, and even before we left, we were planning our return. INSIDER TIPS: 1) Stay in the Añejo Suite. With the comfy king-sized bed, floor-to-ceiling windows, spa tub, and rain shower, it really is a treat. 2) Unless you don't imbibe, partake in the complimentary tequila tasting. Bonnie's knowledge of agave is expert (hence why she's been able to successfully grow it on her property -- in Placerville!), and she has several delicious options, some of which you can only get from Mexico. 3) Even if you don't usually eat breakfast, make room for Bonnie's. She asks in advance about dietary restrictions/preferences, and she uses local, delicious ingredients. I have never liked quiche, so when Bonnie set a slice of one in front of me, I was tempted to give it to my husband. But, because her breakfast the day before had been so good, I decided to try it. It did not disappoint. 4) Take advantage of Bonnie's familiarity with the area and ask for her recommendations. We took her advice on restaurants, live-music options, apple farms, and wineries -- and we are so glad that we did. She'll even make reservations at local wineries for you, if you like! Bonnie is a welcoming host and the venue is attractive. There were some major problems with my stay, however. First, due to the rough winter and constant rains, the road into the Villa was extremely pitted, cracked, and full of potholes and crevasses. This made it very difficult to drive into and out of the property. Repairs are apparently scheduled. Second, the room I was given was quite attractive but the lighting was really poor. Even during the day with a large window, it was rather dark. There was only one lightbulb in the overhead fixture. I asked and received a reading lamp which helped immensely. Third, the bedroom window was flanked only by a curtain panel on each side. There was no way to draw them closed so that early morning light at dawn didn't wake me up. Fourth, the biggest problem was the bathroom. Something was wrong with the faucet. The water just barely dribbled out. When I brought it to Bonnie's attention, she replied that she would have to get the plumber out to fix it. Unfortunately, this didn't happen because I was there on a weekend. Also, the bathroom was very poorly lit. Only two bulbs in a fixture of four. The lack of water and adequate lighting made it difficult to get ready for a wedding event, which was the purpose of my stay. Needless to say, priced at almost $800 for a 3 night stay, I expected more. The proprietor should not cut operating costs by restricting lighting and adequate water flow in what is published to be a luxe venue. I will not be returning here or recommending it to others. read more

She hasn't missed a single detail, from the authentic Spanish decor to environmentally-minded flourishes like ceramic water jugs in place of disposable bottles. I enjoyed restful nights in the Blanco Suite, which includes a generous closet, comfy bed, cool artwork, and a coffee maker. I started each day with breakfast on the picturesque veranda, watching hummingbirds, and a grazing doe. Bonnie gave me great tips on local parks to explore during the day, as well as nearby dining options. I took a relaxing walk each evening before settling into the cozy Agave Bar for some wine and a movie. The Villa Agave strikes just the right balance between luxury and rustic. Exactly what I needed!! Beautiful, peaceful, tranquillity in a spa-like estate. A true escape, yet so easy to get to and close to town and activities. Walking the private trails, watching the sunset and observing the wildlife were some of my favorites. The room and bed were perfect! I've never been more in love! This spot is tucked away in the gorgeous woods of Placerville. We felt as if we were driving up to an ultra inclusive resort. The warm and cozy feeling of this Spanish style home along with plenty of outdoor areas to relax in, really pulls you in. Upon entering this Villa, you meet Bonnie! Bonnie owns this gorgeous property and greets you with such energy and love. I've never encountered a better soul and she treats you like family. The inside of the villa is beyond charming and beautiful. Bonnie escorts you to your room and let's you get comfortable prior to an amazing tequila tasting! She's very knowledgeable and talking to her just makes you feel great. The mimosa breakfast was breathtaking with multiple courses, and champagne from a local winery, Gold Hill. We were able to enjoy the view off the back porch and encountered a family of deer!
