Our walking group decided to give this 'new' cafe a try for our coffee stop on a Sunday morning.
It's a great use of space in the basement of the grand stand at Victoria Park for the location of this cafe, there are plenty of seatings outdoor and the dining area is spacious with numerous small tables and a couple of long benches.
I particularly liked the 'stools' made with bike pedals and the spook(?) with chain, pity they were welded on and can't pedal as you sit. Great idea of using recycle materials.
The wall was decorated with 'bikes' and even in the ladies toilet area. Have to pay a visit there just to check out the 'handle bar' style of Dyson air drier!
There's a separate area for 'child's play area' with a charge of $5 per child if the child is to utilise the sophisticated play equipment which looked rather cool. Definitely the place to bring the 'grand child' for a peace and quiet time and coffee and cake for the grannies?!
The other end was a room dedicated to 'bikes' for a spin if you need a great work out if you don't actually have a real bike.
There is a breakfast menu list as well as lunch options, and there are cakes as well.
We were here to check out the coffees. Numerous people had ordered 'weak long black' and they all came out strong and bitter, (so I was told) and when we asked for a cup of hot water to dilute, it seemed more of a hassle for the staff who all of them wished they were not working on such a glorious day out there. ( we all can understand but if you are there to earn the crust, at least please do your duties?!), disappointing customer service overall.
We had an incident that a cup of coffee was knocked over and went to ask for a cloth to mop up the spill, staff didn't even offer to clean up and got handed the cloth to clean up the table ourselves. Bad bad service!
This place should do well with cyclists as there are plenty of space to hitch their bikes and space to spread out in the open. Perhaps staff are friendlier towards bikers than walkers? I wonder read more
