STAY AWAY! Horrible Management and Refund Scam…read more I stayed at this property on July 10th. We originally booked a two-bedroom stay, but since my parents could not make it, we canceled one room. At check-in, the front desk employee explicitly promised us a refund of $228 within 10 days. Twelve days later, no refund appeared. I called the hotel, and the same front desk worker claimed the refund was processed and told me to check with my bank. My bank confirmed absolutely no deposit or pending refund was ever made. When I called the hotel back again, the manager (who claimed to also be the owner) finally called me today. He was incredibly rude, hostile, and screamed at me. He claimed my case was "weird" because it was a third-party booking and that they hadn't received the money--even though I paid directly at the front desk and have the bank statement proving they charged me! When I told him the front desk employee promised the refund, the manager said they let that employee go because he "lied to customers." When I asked for a straight answer on whether they would honor the refund instead of wasting my time and making me chase my bank, the manager literally screamed at me, told me not to call him a liar, declared he would NOT give me my refund, and insultingly told me that I "should speak English better." This place has horrible, abusive management. It is absolutely not a 5-star hotel, and it is a complete rip-off to pay $572 for one room just to be treated with racism and hostility. Do not stay here!

We asked about restaurants and he said the chargers were right behind his 2nd favorite place to eat (Five 11 Main Pizzeria and Soda Fountain). I asked what his first choice would be and he said Big Juds, right next door. We arrived earlier than we expected and a different gentleman named Scott greeted us and allowed us to check in early and was also as nice as he could be! We told him it was a rest day/down day and he said if you want a cool drive you may want to consider a drive to Mesa Falls. It was awesome and so were both restaurants that we were told about! Our hotel room was great! It was a large, clean room with a very comfortable bed and incredible shower/water pressure! It was perhaps the best pressure we have ever had at any hotel - it was that good!!! We will definitely be back to the hotel if we are in the area again!!! We stopped there before going to the Grand Tetons. Also, the price of the hotel was less than 1/4 of the cost of hotels inside the park!!! Scott and Jesse were amazing, the hotel was clean and neatly decorated, the price was great, and we couldn't have been happier! Go see them the next time you're in Ashton, ID.

The restaurant itself is nicely decorated (feels like you are in an upscale cabin) with a few tables and some tables outside. They bring out bread to the table with olive oil and tomato puree, but my gripe is they brought 4 small slices of bread in a basket to our table of 4. We had to ask for more bread twice (once to soak up the sauce from the appetizers). They could definitely be more generous with the bread, but that is minor. For my appetizer I ordered the gnocchi (brown butter sauce with crispy prosciutto, sage and mushrooms) which was absolutely delicious, I just wish it was a slightly bigger portion. I know it is a starter, but I always want more than 6 or so gnocchi. The texture was perfect, pillowy and soaked up the sauce nicely. For my entree I ordered the beef medallions in a green peppercorn sauce with asparagus and potatoes au gratin. This dish was also divine (though I could have done with fewer peppercorns). The meat was cooked perfectly and was a nice sized portion (6 medium slices of steak). The asparagus and au gratin were very tasty and went well with the dish. Others had the halibut with farrow which they enjoyed, especially the tomato jam on top of the fish though I think the beef was the better of the two dishes. There were 4 desserts and 4 of us so we tried all four. There was a blood orange sorbet (way too sour for my liking), bananas foster cake, ice cream with fresh berries and a chocolate bread pudding. We enjoyed them all (others like the sorbet) and one in our group said the desserts were the best course. Overall we had a really nice meal and it is fairly good value for the quality and for being a 3 course menu. The only thing to improve here is the service. They only had 3 servers we saw and while our waitress was friendly, she seemed new and overwhelmed. We had to ask for out water to be refilled a few times, for more bread (we asked, it did not arrive and we had to ask again), and she did not come by our table often. She had forgotten a request to put a sauce on the side (no big deal) and we had to flag her down for the bill. Again not a huge detractor, but for an upscale restaurant you would expect more attentive service. All that said, the food was fantastic and I would recommend coming here for dinner.

Beware the limited menu (about 3-4 selections in each category) but that's a good sign, not a bad one, when it comes to a fairly small restaurant and the need to have fresh ingredients. The weather didn't permit us to eat outside, but I'm guessing it's even better when the patio is open. Lodge: the patio and main rooms are nice, the guest rooms were ok but for the price ($1500/night for us for two people) we found the furnishings and construction a bit cheap. The service was excellent and the people wonderful. But the price was high and -- most important -- the fishing was meh. Between two of us we caught maybe 10 trout in 3 days in June which is supposed to be a good month. I'd recommend the lodge for couples. For fishing buddies you might be better off -- and spend a lot less money -- at a more casual place.

We stayed two nights here while visiting Yellowstone and it was exactly what we wanted…read more We actually switched to this place mid-trip. We'd been booked at an older property inside the park with no air conditioning, cancelled it, and found the 1872. Best decision we made. The AC worked exactly as it should, and after long days in the park it made a real difference. It's an adults-only boutique property at the edge of town -- close enough to walk downtown, far enough to escape the crowds and noise. Quiet is the word that keeps coming to mind, and that's rare in a gateway town in August. Check-in was easy, and the gentleman at the front desk walked us to the room himself and showed us how everything worked -- the gas fireplace, the towel warmer for the bath towels. Small touches, but you notice when someone takes the time. The room was spotless and a good size. We had four pieces of luggage open at once and never felt crowded. Beds were very comfortable. Anything we asked for, we got. We loved it and would stay here again without hesitation. The switching story is the strongest thing in the review now. Anyone weighing in-park lodging against staying in West Yellowstone is going to read that paragraph and make a decision.
