Supposed to be a "chilly hot dog"

Burgers and fries were good however the burgers were incredibly small and the hot dogs if you would call them that were all small and bad and the service was fast since it was calm the ambiance was mid. And for the price don't come here (four burgers combos in total $66)

Varsity from my understanding has been a staple of downtown Atlantas fast food scene for decades so when I saw in Eater that Varsity was a good place to try I jumped when I saw this location on our way to Dahlonega Wine Country. We stopped by after wine tasting and noticed how clean the place was. There was someone surveying the dining area picking up trash and wiping tables down. The cashier was also noticeably friendly and helpful when we told them it was our first time. He made a few suggestions and we tried most of what he mentioned. As for the food, it was okay. Not really blown away but like any fast food restaurant I was expecting that. The burgers and hotdog were small for the price I felt. The rings were on the greasy side and the burgers needed something to cut the grease. The cashier did offer some fresh onions and by adding that to our food it did help quite a bit. As for the drink we tried the orange cream smoothie and it was not my favorite. The smoothie was very thick and you needed a spoon to really drink it which too me was really good. As for the pies, they were also good. Reminded me of the dollar pies you would get at the grocery store. Not bad but not good. Overall, I am happy I tried a local restaurant staple such as the Varsity.

Well let's say it's not quite like the one downtown but it does have the same food. I found it to me lacking in taste, quality and price. I feel it was overpriced for what it is and that I was paying for the name and the hat. Heck I didn't even get a what will you have, what will you have. We got the comb mix of a cheeseburger and chili dog with fries and a drink and then onion rings in place of fries for the other. It was around $30 for the 2 combos. I felt for the price I could have gone to a sit down restaurant and had batter quality and taste. As you can see from the pics not great looking and pretty much tasted as it looks. We live nearby and haven't been in years since last time it didn't leave us going that was great! So we decided to try again and sadly same feeling, it wasn't great enough to remember it to return.

Just like the original, only newer and cleaner. Really excited to try a new location. The place was clean, fast and the food was just like it should. Chili dogs, double burger, kids burger fries all excellent. Service was quick and very nice.

My husband loves this place. So I decided to give it a try. We had to do through the drive thru because the dining room was closed. Once we got our food, we parked in front of the restaurant and ate our food. I had the slaw dog with French fries. The fries were the best part. They were good. The slaw dog was okay. Nothing special. The fries were hot but my hot dog was luke warm. Maybe I could have enjoyed it better if it was hot. I probably would not try this place again.

I wouldn't try it again, the employees were fine but the food was subpar, I mean a Costco hotdog is better than this. Good felt overpriced for the quality. I went because I enjoyed going to the original in Atlanta and just would never need to try this place again, so 2 stars for me.

Coming from Arizona (orig from GA) I had to stop by the Varsity. We hit this one on the way to my uncles. It was good. My husband didn't care for his burgers but my chili dogs were decent. The fries were the best part.

Great little Georgia-exclusive dive. Staff was friendly and food was served quick as can be. The upkeep of the location left a little to be desired- many tables were still messy long after being left, the playground area was completely gutted, and I noticed (felt) several leaks as I ate. However, despite being a chain, their quality of food is a cut above other fast food joints. Indeed, while their burgers are fantastic, I was blown away by the quality of their onion rings: simply some of the best I've ever had! If you've never experienced the Varsity before, I Recommend trying it out at least once.

Metro Atlanta staple. Is it the best burgers you'll ever have? No, but they're affordable and good when you're in a hurry. Their slaw dogs are the literally the best; from the hotdog, to slaw, to bun and even the ketchup & mustard! Burgers are delicious when you "glorify" it! The fries are good although quite greasy. Quick shout out to those working to keep the place running, thank you! Can't wait to be back inside to answer one of my favorite questions "whaddya have?"

A nice smashed burger and some nasty tasting onion rings.

Don't. Just don't unless you like dried up burgers and chili that has a sawdust texture.

The food was cold and service was slow despite it having only a few customers. Not like original or old Athens location!

The fried foods here are really good: chicken livers, country fried steak, catfish, etc. This is my…read morego-to place for chicken livers; they're crunchy outside, tender inside, and tasty, served with white gravy if you ask for it. (I forgot to ask for it once, and the waitress rolled her eyes when she had to go back to the kitchen for something she should've asked about in the first place). A friend swears by the beef liver with onions, also. But the sides and desserts could use a little work. The side salad is nothing special (and they bring it with the rest of your meal). The mac 'n' cheese is soupy stuff people make with a mix. The desserts also seem to be short-cut things using mixes: I couldn't even eat the piece of cake I had last time; after one taste, the bitter fake icing completely turned me off. The cobblers taste like they use canned fruit fillings. And the bread pudding had a sickly sweet canned sauce poured over it; it was inedible. I don't expect gourmet meals from a "home cooking" restaurant, but I do expect the food to be a step above being poured out of a can or made with a mix. Also, just a note: it's rude to ask the person at the table who gets dessert free what they want and ignore the other people at the table. You could at least say, "Dessert doesn't come with your meal, but would you like to order a dessert?" The good sides here, again, are the fried things: fried okra, fried green tomatoes, etc. I suppose these are the things that keep me coming back and keep my rating of this restaurant at a 4. Most of the servers are great as well. Despite my criticism of some of the sides and the desserts, it's still one of my favorite places to eat in Dawsonville.

Arrived in late afternoon in hopes of beating dinner crowd. Didn't work…read more The food was mucho delicious and the wait staff was friendly, patient and efficient. The only problems were: -Patrons packed into every available inch. Our row of chairs was touching the backs of the chairs behind us. No room to adjust seating. -No room to store coats and packages except keep them in our laps or try to put on floor (not a good choice) -Heavy traffic all around us. Definitely not an intimate setting but great if one didn't want to communicate with their guest. -EXTREAMLY NOISY!!!! Couldn't even converse with those at my table -Food was delicious and seemed authentic. Served rapidly. Was not able to enjoy cocktail because meal arrived so quickly. -Female server was very fast with refills, take home boxes, and our check. She appeared tired! -Very little waiting space at the front area. Probably won't be a problem in warmer weather and wait outside. -Would have been nice to have a menu while waiting to decide on drinks and food choices. -Menus large in size and hard to juggle i0n a large party Will probably go back due to quality of food. Will not go on a peak eating time. -No room for wheelchairs and maneuvering hard due to crowd. Plenty of parking because restaurant was upside mall area.
