Receptionist in store was very welcoming and friendly. However, the saleswomen she assigned me to whose name was Nina was not only rude but downright ignorant! Never said Hello immediately asked how much I wanted to spend (I guess I didn't look good enough to shop there). She actually, made me feel like she was annoyed that she had to wait on me. Moms and I, while Mother of the Bride dress shopping at the VanCleve...it's two little houses -- one with wedding stuff (we didn't go in) and one with general women's wear on one floor and prom and mother of the bride stuff on the other floor. We went in and were told "just one minute" which turned into 15 while we poked around in the dowdy room...and then we got taken into the better area and shown around. We found a few things to try on-- the woman seemed really unclear on what it is that we wanted even though I explained to her a few times- not square neck, preferably pants, detail in the top (mom liked beading). She tried on a bunch of stuff and the woman was a lot more hands on-- which I liked-- in the last dress, she walked her out to the three-way mirror and crouched down behind her, holding all the excess fabric back so that mom could see what the dress would look like if it were fitted. Then, this seems to be a problem on the main line, some woman comes in and they know each other and they get to chatting and it's *all* I can do to get them to stop talking about pilates or whatever and help us out...we're in our last dress, we like it, we have questions. I know you're only working because you're bored-- but close the deal. Overall it was fine and the selection was actually pretty good...but I've had much better service elsewhere. read more

My experience with Van Cleve is 5 star. I went seeking a unique couture gown for my sons wedding. I traveled from New York to palm beach seeing only repetitive designer styles and colors. I walked in a spoke with Jada the fashion designer that worked with me. I thought s beaded gown but Jada was absolutely correct. No beads. A beautiful 3D black Thule and gown was made for me. Absolute elegance. So many people told me I had to travel to Van Cleve. I am so excited for the wedding in September. Please ask for Jada when you make your appointment. Wow just picked my gown up. The designer made me a personal shaw for me. I feel like a princess for my sons wedding. So spoiled. I cannot go any where else ! Love you Jada! My mother popped into van Cleve to start looking for my brothers up coming wedding. Being that we are from the Main Line this was the obvious recommended spot to go. Ironically reading the last review did not swing us away from the store which is unfortunate because we had a very similar experience with the snotty woman who represents Van Cleve. It seems as though our business was not welcome there. The woman barely acknowledged my mom. When she caught the first whiff of attitude, instead of name dropping she decided to just act like she was someone random strolling in to browse. And when I say name dropping I mean naming our connections to the the store. She was offered ZERO help what so ever which pretty much infuriates not only myself but my little brother and his fiancé. Had the best wedding shopping experience here!!! I've been to several bridal stores in the philly area and this one met and exceeded my expectations by miles!!! The whole experience from greeting us with champagne, to selecting the dresses from their beautiful collection to trying them on, our assistant Mayana was SO sweet and so helpful! She selected dresses exactly along the style that I was thinking and I ended up saying YES to the one that she chose for me first! I would highly recommend going there to any bride! read more

This is long overdue. My experience with Van Cleve's was a horrible nightmare, and I would never recommend it to anyone. I spent $800 for a dress I could never wear. A few years ago my daughter was married. I went to Van Cleve's where I selected a dress and the store ordered it in a size based on the measurements they took. The dress had a unique hem that flared at the bottom. When the dress arrived in the store I made an appointment with the store's seamstress. Since the dress was too long I asked for it to be taken up at the waist so that the bottom of the dress would not be ruined. The seamstress assured me it would be fine if she shortened the dress at the hem. But when I went back to pick up the dress it looked awful. The unique hem was totally destroyed. I left the dress and was told it would be fixed. I returned 2 more times and it still wasn't right. The last time I went back it was 2 days before the wedding. Even though I knew it wasn't right, I took the dress home. because I felt desperate. Once home I tried on the dress to show my daughter and she was horrified. I took it to a local tailor and she agreed with my daughter. I even sent a picture to the manufacturer who said the tailoring totally distorted the hemline. I called the store the day before the wedding to let them know I would not be able to wear the dress, and that I would be retuning it. The sales person said the owner would return my call. I ended up scrambing at the last minute and was forced to wear an old dress to one of the most important days of my life. The owner never called me and when I called her the following week I was told that since I took the dress home they could not give me back my money. I am retired, living on a fixed income. $800 is a lot of money to me. This review is late because thinking about this experience causes so much anguish. Bottom line - don't go here! I hope this review spares someone from being put in the same terrible situation as I was. read more

My future daughter-in-law had an appointment at Van Cleve this past Saturday, how disappointing! The sales associate was extremely rude and demeaning. An experience that should have been enjoyable, became quite the opposite. She found her perfect dress, but did NOT purchase it there. We were very relieved to find the SAME dress at another bridal shop where the staff was AMAZING! Oh, and did I mention that the dress was priced $600 below the Van Cleve price? read more

Van Cleve Collection is a wonderful find! Love their new fall collection! The staff is always so helpful! They also are very generous and host shopping days for local charities I love small businesses who give back! I will definitely do business with them again and refer my friends for everyday wear and for formal occasions ! read more

Buyers Beware!!! My daughter in law to be scheduled a day shopping for MOG dresses. Our first stop was Van Cleve's. We found a beautiful dress, but decided to continue shopping. We found the same dress $100 cheaper at the Wedding Shop but decided to offer Van Cleve's the opportunity to match it becasue they had given us nice service-looking back now I know why they were empty and the Wedding Shop was packed. I ordered the dress and when I went to pick it up 3 months later -I decided not to have it altered there because their costs were triple those of everyone else- I brought it home in a plastic bag which I thought unusual for $700 dress but was shocked when I took it out and found stains under the arms, the hem dirty and the eye hook on the back hanging by a thread and no tags. I emailed them and told them I was bringing it back and they blamed it on the designer sending the dress that way which prompted me to call the designer only to find out they had never even ordered my dress. They offered to reorder and when that dress came in a week later thanks to the designer's intervention- I went to pick it up and once again they tried to give me the sample dress. Thankfully my husband was able to stop by and was given the new dress.I have shared my story with others only to find out that they knew friends that had the same experience- including stories from the seamstress I took the dress too. I usually would not take the time to write a review but I am doing so in hopes it will help others from experiencing the stress and disappointment I did . Do not order any dress from this shop. Overpriced and dishonest service. I ordered a bridesmaid dress from Van Cleve back in March. I usually take a size 8 but know that when it comes to these types of dresses a 10 is a perfect fit. So when I went in to get measured, I specifically requested a size 10. When the dress arrived I was surprised to find that the dress had been ordered in a size 14. Needless to say that the dress was swimming on me. Instead of admitting a mistake had been made and offering to do the alterations for free (which any good business would do), the sales consultant proceeded to try to blame me and the designer (Vera Wang) for the mistake. All they care about is money and they were looking to make some off of me with the extensive alterations that had to be made to the dress. The issue was never resolved as all employees and the owner began ignoring my phone calls and would never call me back. Not the ideal customer service. I will never shop here again and I will advise friends, family and strangers to stay away at all cost. Dishonest and greedy. read more
