I bought a pair of pants from a thrift store that were just a little too long for me, so I brought them to Dia Boutique to get it hemmed. It was as easy as walking in and telling the owner what I wanted, and she took a look at the pants and gave an incredibly affordable price of $15. She asked if I wanted to try them on, I assume to take measurements herself; I had already done so haphazardly at home myself, but maybe I should have taken her up on it. Nevertheless, my pants were ready the very next day and she did a great job! The stitching is practically invisible and even better than it looked originally. I wanted a traditional qi pao for my wedding. My mother had brought me to a couple stores in flushing to find the perfect one. Now, let me say this. I don't have a typical Chinese woman's body. I was raised in America and I somehow was blessed/cursed with being very top heavy and don't fit it normal Chinese sizes. The first store I went to with my mom in flushing NY had a very rude woman who continued to tell me that I'm such an American and am too big and nothing In her store would fit me and that I would need something custom made for over $400 dollars. The second store, also in flushing told me very similar except she was much better and searched her stock. She was able to find a qi pao that fit me. However, she also recommended given my figure, to custom make something as well. Finally my cousin and his now wife got married late last year and recommended I visit Dia Boutique in Philly. Now it's a bit of a drive for us but we heard great recommendations and figured we make a day trip out of it. I can not say enough nice things about the owners of this store. Dia boutique is a small store who somehow knew their customers needs. They didn't tell me that I was fat or that I was so American. They actually complimented me and told me how excellent my Cantonese was and how she wants to help me find the perfect dress. They had several dresses I fit into in multiple different color variations. When they didn't have my size for a red one, the owner went out of their way to find me my traditional red one that I wanted and was successful at it! While searching for it, I also found a beautiful white one I fell in love with. We also found my fiancé a nice top as well. We left the store, so happy, and having only spent $210 for 3 items when flushing would have cost me over $400 for just 1. I can not say enough great things about Dia boutique and the lovely owners who made me laugh, made me feel comfortable and helped me find my dream qi pao for my wedding. Super impressed! read more

This place is hidden away in Chinatown and you can walk past it dozens of times without noticing it. We went here to look for a "qipao" (traditional Chinese dress) for a wedding-related dinner. They have many beautiful styles and colors and a wide variety of prices, ranging from around $75 (what I got) to $200+. One of the ladies measures you on the spot and helps pull dresses that are your size. Mine fit very well. Our only qualm was that the slit goes pretty high up the thigh. The main seamstress there was able to sew it down about an inch during that same visit and tighten up each of the buttons (our request), all thankfully without extra charge. I also decided to bring my wedding dress here for alteration. It was a ballgown-style dress and had multiple poofy layers, so they removed one; fixed the zipper; and added a few snap-ons so the dress would be more secure; and loosened the waist a little so that I'd be able to exhale properly. It took about a week to make the alterations and cost $100. Bring cash unless you want to pay extra for credit card fees. I was pretty satisfied with how the dress turned out. Just be aware that the ladies tend to push products on you while you're there. For instance, they showed me a guestbook, a purse, and a veil I could buy, all the while saying there was only one such one left, etc. I guess they're just doing business like everyone else, but stay focused if you don't want to end up leaving with a much-lighter wallet. All in all, I would recommend coming if there's something specific you're looking for like a traditional Chinese dress and even getting a wedding dress altered. read more

My daughter needed a Chinese outfit for her clothes from around the world project and since it's Chinese New Year, I might as well get one for her. Ladies there were very nice and helpful. My daughter who's 4 had a breakdown because she was scared about the firecrackers for lion dancing. They have every color for the outfit 2 piece set we picked out and she ended up choosing purple. The seamstress, Lisa, was very professional and gave me good advice on how to make the dresses more fitted on me. They turned out great! Then I went to her again to alter a beaded gown that's two sizes big for me. I was worried that it couldn't be fixed because of all the beads. But Lisa worked her magic and did it! I was so impressed by her work. The gown fit like a glove. Now, I'm having her altering my wedding gown. I cannot wait to try it on. Her price is reasonable for good quality work. Dia Boutique is the best! I had a sequin floor length evening gown with 2 underskirts that needed hemming, and brought it first to a different tailor who said the sequins would be an issue and offered a steep quote for their service. Dia Boutique said the sequins would be not problem as they were individually sewn in, and she took her time having me try on my dress and placing careful pins to ensure the length was perfect. The turn around time was well under 2 weeks and the price very reasonable. Make sure you bring your receipt when picking up your order (or take a picture of it to show them). Also I recommend calling them to confirm hours - sometimes they open closer to 1 pm. read more

It is so hard to find a great tailor in the city. You never know if you're going to be ripped off or sometimes have long waits to get alterations complete. Dia boutique is a super friendly local business located in chinatown. The prices are very reasonable and the alterations are professional and can be done on a short timeline. I had 2 dresses that needed alteration for Indian weddings- not every tailor is suited to alter ethnic wear. Great store! Used to walk by all the time when I lived in Chinatown but didn't go in until I needed to find a cheongsam in a pinch. I wanted to wear one to prom to show pride of my and my mother's culture. I found a beautiful black silk dress almost immediately in my size for only $50, as the boutique was offering a promotion at the time for cheongsams. For a full alteration, they only charged $10 more and finished within an hour. Both women I met in the store were extremely helpful and understanding of my situation. The dress ended up fitting perfectly and it looked amazing, thanks to their tailoring. Jan 30, 2019 I went to Dia Boutique this past Saturday looking for a red cheongsam for my upcoming Chinese New Year party. I'm a size 0 or 2, five foot six, and had no idea what size would match. The ladies of the shop were extremely gracious and helpful. A quick measure of my bust and hips, and I was told I'm a size 34. The dress selection was fabulous. Although I said I needed a red dress I found myself trying on a vibrant pink, black, and a gorgeous sapphire blue. The blue dress was the winner-- I had to have it! I asked to have it shortened and taken in just a tad in the back for a perfect fit. The ladies then helped me find what I had come in for- my red cheongsam. It's silk, has beautiful embroidered flowers, and fits like a glove. No alterations needed. Both dresses are high quality and very reasonably priced, as was the alteration charge. They were ready for pickup the following afternoon. There is nothing I can say that wasn't 5-star about my experience with Dia Boutique! Unsuspecting place to get an alteration, but it was great! I was able to have my dress altered in less than 48 hours without placing a rush on my order. My alteration was somewhat pricey, but I had a dress that had multiple tiers, so that may be why. I am not sure how their other prices compare. Had a last minute dress disaster and needed to find something with event being the next day. Normally stores carrying Cheongsam dresses don't carry dresses in American sizes & I figured IF they even had a dress large enough (I'm tall, and wear a US size 10 or 12 depending) that I would have to by one size bigger to take it in in the waist as traditionally they usually run very straight (no hips). Lisa took my measurements and not only did they have way many more sizes that anywhere else I've seen, the design selection was awesome and when I tried it on it fit like a Glove!!! I bought my red silk cheongsam/qipao for my wedding here. It was very reasonably priced and Lisa (the owner) can alter it for you there for a very minimal fee. The store has various styles (both traditional and modern) as well as shoes, other clothing, handbags, and other gift items. If you are looking for a cheongsam or qipao for your wedding, prom, or other formal occasion I think it is definitely worth a visit! Speaking mandarin or cantonese helps, but is not required. read more

The two women (I'm sorry I didn't get their names!) were extremely helpful, easy to talk to, and understood exactly what I was looking for. I followed what the other reviewer said and had Lisa tailor my white coat a few months ago. Originally the sleeves were so long that I had to fold them over several times to regain use of my hands.
