I found "Dress Right" on a website that gave them an outstanding review. I had taken various pieces to my regular dry cleaner where they also do alterations. They were unable to alter a suit (sleeves and hem) because of the fabric. It's a stretch cotton twill. Since there's and Eli electricity to the fabric, it is difficult to alter. I sew as well and know that you have to have knowledge of the fabric and experience dealing with stretch cotton. The dry cleaner told me to return the suit. (lol) Nevertheless, I know it could be altered. I just needed the right tailor. In the past, I had taken the suits to the closest dry cleaner. However, since many of the sleeves had buttons at the bottom, in order to hem it they would cut out the buttons and just hem the bottom. Imagine my surprise when I picked up the first suit I had taken there (the cotton twill) and instead of cutting the bottom portion of the sleeve, he lifted it at the top of the shoulder and was able to retain the buttons. I could not believe it! It just looked spectacular! The hem was perfect, nothing out of place, and sewn to perfection. There is a tailor in South Philadelphia I have used (Pat Scioli) on Passyunk Avenue who is a genius. However, it's a little far from me and he is incredibly expensive, with good reason. If I had a piece that I knew would be incredibly difficult to alter, I would take it to him. However, I haven't even checked to see if he is still in business. But he was wonderful, as well. Since this is a review of Dress Right, I'll finish up by saying I have taken many pieces to them since and I could not be more pleased! Dress Right is the place to go in Center City if you want quick, reasonably priced, quality service. read more

Give a dress to get altered because the zip was bad and unfortunately after several days, I went to pick up my dress only fine that it still doesn't zip The female employee tried to zip it up herself and was unsuccessful. That's when the male employee who we originally spoke to came and tried to zip up the dress. It took him ten minutes of constant struggling until with many pins later that he finally got the dress to zip. Upon telling him that there's no way I can zip this at home and if the lady can't do it, how is someone else supposed to help me do it at home he insisted that it's possible. I asked him to try again. It took him five minutes of struggling until he finally got a zipped. If it takes a professional that long, there's clearly something wrong lol. There was no point in me bringing my dress in because the issue was never resolved. His ultimate solution was to pull the dress up, keep yanking on the zip, and then pull it down something which could've been done with no alteration. The whole goal of the alteration was to make it easier to zip since clearly there's a problem with the zipper. Wouldn't recommend. read more

I love this tailor. They get alterations done in a very timely manner. I even requested that a piece be done a day earlier than I initially requested and they easily accommodated me. I have brought in multiple pairs of pants to be shortened and taken in at the waist and not only do they all fit me perfectly but I also cannot tell where they made their alterations! read more

I had a number of things altered. They did an ok job, but seemed to really struggle with the hems of both a skirt and wrap dress I needed shortened. The skirt was intended to be reversible, but they didn't make the inner and outer layers the same length, so I had to bring it back for repair. When I picked it up the second time, part of the inner layer was still showing in places -- the hemming was really uneven. I pointed it out, and they guy's answer was "that kind of skirt is really tough." And then they still expected me to pay! Needless to say, I won't be returning. read more

Amazing service! I flew in for a conference with a new suit which needed alterations before I could attend an event in 3 days. They got it done in two with no charge for rushing and said it could have been done in one. My tailored suit fits perfectly and I received many compliments all night! Highly recommend this shop as it's family owned and they are very skilled! read more

I called to ensure that they could alter my suit pants within a week and was told they could, so I brought the pants in. I was told that they would be ready (as written on the ticket) on Wed at 5 PM. I waited until Thur afternoon to call to ensure that the pants were ready to be picked up and there was a lengthy pause on the line. I was told that i could come for the pants in 20 minutes. When I arrived, the tailor told me it would be 5 minutes, at which time he began the alterations. The work was done in a rush and not very well. It's unclear to me why they chose to lie to me (right to my face, no less), but I would not recommend this place. read more

I have nothing but great things to say about Dress Right for alterations! I brought in a bridesmaids dress that was way too big and required some serious restructuring. At drop off, they took very precise measurements and did not seem at all concerned about the severity of the task. I had a pretty quick turnaround time requirement all things considered and had no issues in getting it done. The dress was ready and waiting for me on the day of pickup and the alterations were flawless. To top it all off, the price was very reasonable and less than I was quoted elsewhere considering the quick service. I would highly recommend for any and all alterations! read more

(First, I'll apologize for this long review. If you want to skip the details, skip to what I wrote after ** because it sums it all up.) If I was able to give this place 0 stars, that's what this place deserves. My BF and I went to this place to get our clothes dry cleaned, thinking we'd at least get a decent experience. Unfortunately, I didn't check yelp before making this oh-so BAD decision. The BF got a few dress shirts and a few pairs of trousers dry cleaned, whereas I got a dress dry cleaned. The man promised us that our clothes would be done on the next day at 5 PM. (We went here Tuesday and he circled "Wednesday" for pick up.) The lady who stands behind the counter was right next to him. If they knew that it wasn't going to be done on time, they should've told us. We could've gone elsewhere where we can get our clothes on time. We showed up on Wednesday at around 5:30 PM and the lady tells us that our clothes were not done. My BF and I were pretty upset considering it was like 100 degrees weather outside and it was a bit out of the way for us to get there. The lady yells at the man in another language (we assumed she wasn't happy that the man promised us Wednesday). They said that our clothes would be done Thursday by noon. We came back to them today (Thursday) around 2 PM and everything was done except for my dress. I was pretty upset because I expected to wear this dress soon and this was a huge inconvenience. Again, the weather outside was around 100 degrees. We asked for a discount since we did come back twice to pick up our clothes and this was a huge inconvenience. The lady looks at us in her disgruntled face and tells us no. She didn't seem at all sympathetic or sorry. She apologized but her sorry was as empty and meaningless, as if she didn't even feel like it was her fault. She attempts to tell us that she "doesn't" know why it was late. She made it seem like it was not her fault, saying the company who dry cleans for them couldn't get it them on time. Unacceptable. I should've saved my saliva when I told her not to expect any business from us again. But honestly, she seemed not to care. I just don't understand how a business can stay open with the way they run it. They probably promise most of their customers that they can get their clothes "on time" and lie to their faces the next day when the customers come back. She attempted to tell me that her "other customers" understand. Please tell me, so I am not understanding for expecting my clothes to be ready when you promised me not once, but twice? **Bottom line is don't promise a date and say that our clothes will be ready by and not own up to it. It wasn't just once, but twice. Also, they didn't admit that it was their fault--blaming the company that dry cleans the clothes didn't get it to them on time. Save yourself a trip from even stepping in this place. Their store's name is "Dress Right", and obviously they don't know how to do business right. read more

I buy a lot of clothing and as a result go to a tailor at least 10 times per year for alterations (anything from hemming jeans to taking in a shirt to match my waist size to removing the shoulder pads of a jacket and decreasing the length of its sleeves). I have worked with plenty of tailors before and the person who works here is the best. Without a doubt would recommend him to anyone. read more

This review is based on a customer service experience. I needed to have professional measurements taken for a bridesmaid dress and stopped at Dress Right since it's around the corner from my house. I always try to go to two tailors just to ensure the measurements are correct and this was my second stop. I know some tailors don't love doing this, as there is no business involved for them, so a little reluctance is always expected. After initially pretending like he didn't know what I was asking, the gentleman in the front finally yelled to someone in the back. A woman came out with tape (seemingly annoyed) and started measuring. I'm not sure whether she didn't know how to take measurements or just didn't care about the job she was doing, but I could feel and see that she wasn't making sure the tape was in the correct place. She sometimes would hold it too loosely and allow it to lag, and at times I'd have to adjust the tape myself because she wasn't paying attention to it falling down. Nonetheless, I thanked her when she finished, barely getting the words out before she darted away without a response. Before walking out the door, I told the man "have a nice day," to which I also received silence. Finally, when I compared her measurement to the ones I already had, there were 2-3" differences. Not knowing which were accurate, I visited yet another tailor near Walnut & Juniper to get a third opinion (the gentleman there was delightful, btw!). His numbers mirrored the measurements of the first tailor I had seen (surprise, surprise). I honestly would have preferred Dress Right just turn me away than be rude or give inadequate service. My bridesmaid dress is being custom made and had I used their numbers, it would've been too small and would've had to be remade. Based on this experience, I won't be using Dress Right for any service in the future... any tailor that can't measure correctly isn't one I'd choose. read more

I really hate to leave a bad review, but the experience I had here was so frustrating and disappointing. I took two dresses in to get the necklines altered. When I came back at the agreed upon date, he had forgotten about them. He told me one was just too complicated to change (which I would have completely understood if he'd told me that initially, but instead he agree to do it and charged me for it). Then he rushed to finish the other dress and ended up totally massacring it -- the neckline was completely crooked and unwearable. The straps were drastically different widths. It was bizarre. I need to take it somewhere else to get it fixed. I'm not sure what happened, maybe this sort of alteration just isn't his strong suit. read more

I have taken two bridesmaid dresses to Dress Right and they did an amazing job! The turnaround time is very quick (especially if you are in a crunch). They are truly the best in the city and I highly recommend taking any garment there! read more

They did an AMAZING job altering a formal dress that I got for a black tie wedding. Very professional, completed right on time, and shockingly reasonable prices. I honestly don't think i've ever had a dress that fits so perfectly! Will definitely be returning for future tailoring needs. read more

I hate Yelp. I just made this account to praise Rich Chae at Dress Right. He's the finest tailor in Philadelphia, hands down. I am very particular about the fit of my suits. I've been bringing my tailoring to him for the past ten years. There's nobody I let touch my alterations other than Rich. Other reviews pan Rich for not turning around a $29 bridesmaid dress before lunch. That's not Rich's strength. But taking apart a handmade suit and rebuilding it better than new...he's your guy. Call before you pick up your stuff. He's behind schedule because he's busy, and he's busy because he's the best. read more

I feel like I have to come to this tailor's rescue, I honestly don't understand the negative reviews! I had my pants taken in which was done within about a week and they did a very good job. They also have dry cleaned some clothing for me and got out some stains which had set in, they did a better job at that than other dry cleaners. The people who work here are always so friendly and kind, their price is very reasonable and affordable! I think I've finally found a tailor and dry cleaners that I like very much and will go back to! read more

Always done on time; does what I ask. Alterations are very good and rarely a problem. Great people!

Find somewhere else to go. I dropped off a dress here for some simple alterations on a Monday and asked to pick it up on Friday. It was for an event on Saturday. They said it would be ready Friday after 4:30. Okay, great! I came back at 5:00 on Friday, only to find that it had not even been started. I was met with my sympathy. "Can't you hang out for a while and wait?" I couldn't wait for who knows how long that day, so I said I would just come right when they opened on Saturday. They couldn't agree on what time that was. Rather than waste my time and possibly have the dress not finished on Saturday, I just wore something else to my event. I picked up the dress on Monday and these people tried to blame ME instead of apologizing! "You should have called before you came on Friday." The bare minimum expectation is to have a garment ready on time. If it wasn't going to be, YOU should have called ME to apologize and update me. read more

Generally good, I had him make significant alterations to a jacket that was very nice. But recently I had them alter a brand new pair of jeans and it was done incorrectly. Hopefully they can fix them, I am too annoyed right now to go back, but we'll see. I think the language is a barrier. read more

More than worst! The first time I took my jacket here for a dry clean. It comes back and still dirty. The second time I took my expensive long dress to do a dry clean again. It turns out that my dress comes back with All BLACK TINY hair which i cant get rid off! I went back there and a guy talked to me super bad! Lets see whats he is going to do with my dress! read more

Don't go there! I was a regular customer because they had a pick up and delivery service for my building, so it was convenient. I didn't complain when several items of my clothing came back stretched out or misshapen or ill-pressed. But when my satin dress came back with large safety pins through the front of the dress that left noticeable holes in the fabric, I had to say something. What dry cleaner puts large safety pins through a satin dress, IN THE FRONT of the dress instead of using any of the THREE hanger straps on the dress (or at the very least, pinning from the liner of the dress)? When I showed the owner the holes and she couldn't fix it by steaming them out, she said, "What do you want me to do about it." So I answered that I wanted money for the ruined dress. She snapped back "no, sue me." She did not even offer to give me my money back for the dry cleaning! read more

I feel the need to comment. My experience has been the exact opposite of the previous reviewers. I've been going to this business for 5+ years for both dry cleaning and alterations. I have only been pleased with my experiences there. Their service has always been polite, quick, and well done. They even did a great job altering this ridiculous bridesmaid dress that I was forced to buy several sizes too large. Other tailors refused to touch it due to the boning but they did a great job on it for an incredibly reasonable price given the size and difficulty of the alterations. read more

Used this business because there were so many positive reviews. My experience was overwhelmingly negative. The tailoring wasn't finished on time, but even worse, the expensive garments were so poorly altered that they now cannot be worn. Ever. read more

If I could have given no stars I would have. My building (Ellington) had a delivery service contract with these cleaners so I felt obligated to go here for convenience. Initially my fiancee had a pair of pants hemmed here and the hem immediately fell out within one day. We took it back and they refused to repair the pants and insisted on us paying again as it was obviously our fault that the hem had fallen out. Needless to say we never got clothing altered here again. Then recently we had a pair of expensive new pants damaged during the dry cleaning process. When I took it back to them, they again accused us of damaging the pants and refused to offer to pay for the pants or at least seem sympathetic to the situation. They were extremely rude and given the fact that I've had innumerable buttons damaged on my shirts, marked them and never had any replaced we decided to stop coming here. They are definitely the type of people who feel entitled to your business. Luckily, the Ellington has a delivery contract with another company and the owners of these other cleaners were so nice and respectful. I would take my clothes to a homeless guy on the street with a bucket of dirty water, rather than take them back to Dress Right read more
