I wanted to like this place, but my experience with recent shirt tailoring was disappointing and below basic standards of workmanship. I have been going to this tailor for a couple of months. I recently brought in a white button-down that needed the torso tapered. When I picked it up, the shirt still fit noticeably loose, and when I looked inside to understand why, I found several issues with the alteration work: - The back darts were sewn asymmetrically -- they start and end at noticeably different heights on each side. - The dart points were left bulky and puckered instead of pressed flat, creating visible bumps under the fabric when worn. - Loose threads and uneven stitching were present on both darts. - The side seam taper ended in a crooked, unfinished fold that looks rushed and sits uncomfortably inside the hem. I asked about the loose fit when picking the shirt up and was told "shirts are supposed to have room," but the garment still balloons excessively when tucked in, which defeats the purpose of tailoring a fitted dress shirt. I brought two dresses for alterations to the Wardrobe Clinic. Firstly, there is no brick and mortar store. Ron uses a room at the pyramid club, which is admittedly a very nice club in downtown center city (though no convenient parking). However he does not have office space there. I had to change into my dress in the club bathroom and then walk through the club to the conference room with glass, see through walls where he measured me. We then agreed on a delivery date for my altered dresses. I was told delivery cost $11. I did not hear from Ron until I texted him the day after he was supposed to deliver my dresses. He delivered them later that day and then requested additional payment for the Uber he took to deliver my dresses. One of my dresses was altered well but the other was botched- I had asked him to adjust a slit in my dress, which he stitched from the bottom instead of the top such that there was a gap at the top. When I let Ron know that I was dissatisfied and wanted to reschedule so that he could fix it, he did not respond to my text message. read more

I showed up ten minutes early for my appointment. The door was locked. I rang the doorbell once to no answer and assumed they must be busy. I waited until my appointment time and rang the bell again. No answer. I called the business phone. No answer there either, but I could hear the ringtone inside the office. Waited another ten minutes before leaving. I told the door person about my experience, worried that maybe the owner had passed out in his office and she told me that he left the building a few hours ago and must have left his phone behind. If an artisan can't be bothered to keep their appointments, I'm afraid I have no interest in their services. I'm happy for all of you that left 5-star reviews. They also failed to send me a note to come pick up my clothes and I had to call and confirm. The hemming was done well and I have no complains about the work itself. I came in to get a bridesmaid dress hemmed, only needing about 3 inches off. I had a great first appointment with Ron but unfortunately was extremely disappointed with the rest of my experience. Ron neglected to communicate with me that he had moved locations so when I showed up to my final fitting, he was not there. When I called him he told me he'd have it ready the next day at his new location. Instead, he preceded to reschedule at the last minute two more times stating he needed more time for the dress. I've only ever had my clothes slightly altered by local dry clean shops. But I knew for my wedding that wasn't going to be good enough. But I also didn't know where to start. So I literally Googled "best tailor Philadelphia", and the top result was a Philadelphia Magazine article listing Wardrobe Clinic as the best in the city. So I called them. Ron answered, and immediately made an appointment with me just a few days later and said he could do the turnaround in a couple of weeks. I got my suit from Bonobos and already thought it looked pretty good, but I had NO idea how much better suits can be, especially in the hands of someone like Ron. You can call or text him any time, and I don't think I ever had to leave a voicemail. He was very responsive. At first, I think I thought his prices were a little high, but if you compare each individual service he does on a suit, and the quality--it's a steal. He does more tweaks to garments than your typical dry cleaners or generic tailor would, and the quality of work is amazing. But the real magic was Ron himself. He is kind, engaging, knowledgeable, and strikes the perfect balance between the "I'll do whatever you want" kind of professional, and the "I can guide you and suggest things to make this look even better" type. I *think* most people probably take a garment in and have only one round of alterations done and they're happy. I was so indecisive, though--not knowing about how clothes ought to fit and changing my mind about how I wanted it to fit. Ron was incredibly patient with me. I went back three times to get little tweaks, and one time was even after he offered to let me take it home and just situ with it for a bit. He willingly took it back and did a couple more things. And it was all included in the original price for the alterations. And it all paid off. I still don't think I've ever, in my entire life, looked as good as I did on my wedding day (I didn't hold a candle to the bride, but that's as it should be). I even had Ron do a second suit for me. This guy is my tailor, as long as he's in business, and I won't even think of going anywhere else. In short, Ron and the Wardrobe Clinic are old school professionals that know what they're doing and treat their work as a true craft in which they take great pride, and they treat their customers as real humans. They care for you and your garments and make you feel really good about your decision to use them. I see others here have had occasional bad experiences. That happens in every business, and I hope and trust each of those things got resolved. But as for me, it seems that Ron and Wardrobe Clinic are, across the board, the best tailoring in Philly. People on here looking at reviews- I HIGHLY recommend you actually take the negative reviews into consideration, as I gave Ron the benefit of the doubt (which was a huge mistake) My first meeting with him he was 1.5 hours late and barely apologized for that. When I went to pick up my dress a few weeks later, it wasn't even ready to go. I had to sit and wait for him to steam the dress. This was a $500 dress for my sisters wedding (I was the MOH). The alterations were very simple- getting it shortened and sewing up the chest area an inch or so. 1 hour into the wedding, the stitching at the chest completely fell out and left me completely exposed. I had to safety pin my dress, which destroyed the fabric. Furthermore, when I put on my dress to wear, I noticed that back of the fabric was completely destroyed in about a 2x2 patch. Now, I have been trying to contact them for a refund for 2 weeks, and they have barely been responsive. Called about 5 times, emailed, and texted the number suggested on the website. He finally just messaged me back and said "they are on a company vacation and will return in August and I can stop in then" 100$ in basic alternations in the trash. The absolute worst service expirance I have ever had... I went in on october 31st witb my Michael Kors blazer. I initally just needed it let out slightly and the sleeves shortend. Ron talked me into a bunch of other things. Including 1. Re-working the sholders. 2. Tapering the sleeves. 3. Shortening the length of the jacket slighttly And I than figured since he was doing all of the above. Mightaswell remove the pocket flaps... as I prefer jetted pockets. And hate when the flaps pull out. Total bill came to 209.00 With a pick up of Nov 29th (1 day shy of a full month) I texted his assistant on monday the 27th. And was assured my jacket would be ready for pickup on the 29th as promised. 3pm on the 29th I get a call from ron saying he hasnt finished it yet and asking if I could pickup on the 30th after 3pm insted. On the 30th I show up at 3:15. "Not finished yet. Can you come back in 45 mins to an hour" Sure. Than 4:30 rolls around get another text. "Pickup at 5:30" Ok Than. "Sorry make it 6, or we can deliver to you" When I get there ron tells me he only had yime to let it out,Do the sleeves,And pocket flaps. So after one month, over half of the work I paid him for is not complete. Funny. It was all the extras he talked me into that were incompleete... but the sleeve length and jacket width now fit fine. Ron asks me to come back next week and drop it back off to be completed agter my event. I say ok. Than i get home and start looking more closley at the jacket. The sleeve buttons are reattached like a 4 year old did it. And one of the pockets has an open seam. I sent pictures to Ron demanding a refund. Because now i need to take this jacket to somebody else so that they can hopefully correct the way he butchered this jacket. As of today. 3 days later. No response. Best of philly? Maybe if he is tailor to the blind. Update: Ron finally answered me. (only after this review was posted.) and offered first to fix, than refund and fix. Im taking the refund. but there is no way I will ever let him touch anything I own again. I unfortunately have to agree with the many negative reviews previously posted. In fairness, I will mention the two positives first. Ron was a pretty nice guy and quite thorough as he scheduled four fittings to ensure the fit would come out perfectly. However, I was very disappointed in the overall customer service and the fact that the Wardrobe Clinic did not do what I paid them to do. Overall, I paid hundreds of dollars for alterations to a jacket, pants, and dress shirt which included a $35 charge to take up the sleeves on the dress shirt. By the fourth and final fitting, one would think everything would be finished. This was not the case as you could tell the dress shirt sleeves were not taken in at all because they were still vastly longer than the jacket sleeves. I inquired about this, and the response was "I can give you arm bands that will hold the sleeves in the exact place where you want." Baffled, I asked if we can take the sleeves in as I paid for, and the response was the arm band would be perfect because I could adjust the sleeves to any length I wanted. At this point the only thing I 'wanted' was to just leave and Ron said he could drop off the bands ASAP within the next day or two. After multiple text messages over the next week to which I was either ignored completely or given responses of "ok" or "Will do" I did not receive anything, and Ron never followed up after the constant reminders. Also, the Wardrobe Clinic was in the process of moving locations, so maybe they decided to blow off my particular alterations. If they knew they couldn't complete the job in the first place, they should have let me know so I could have taken my clothing to another business who would 100% get the job done. It's my first time having any clothing tailored, and I was really nervous when I first brought my suit to Ron. After about half an hour, I left feeling reassured that my suit was in good hands. About a week and a half later, I am glad to confirm that my gut reaction was right - I picked up my suit today and Ron did an excellent job! The suit was tailored to my expectations, exactly as we had discussed. You can tell that Ron takes pride in the quality of his work. He uses some machine sewing, but a good deal of hand-stitching. During our initial meeting, I was struck by his attention to detail. He was very honest with me about what he would and wouldn't be able to do, a quality which I think is very important. He also clearly has an eye for fashion, and all of his suggestions on how to tailor the suit were very tasteful - hence, why I felt comfortable leaving my suit in his hands. In addition, you get to try on your clothes when you pick them up, to make sure that everything is to your liking. I was charged $200 to have multiple alterations to my suit jacket, suit skirt, suit pants, and blouse - this may seem like a lot, but Ron broke down the prices for me, and his prices are comparable to most tailors' in Philadelphia. He gives a slight discount to first-time customers, too! Ron told me several times that if, after a few wears, I decided I wasn't 100% pleased with the changes, I could bring it back in and he would alter it/adjust things for free. I really appreciate this guarantee - it's further proof that Ron prides himself on quality. The only reason I'm giving 4/5 instead of 5/5 stars is because my suit wasn't 100% ready when it was supposed to be. I called the morning I was supposed to pick up my suit to confirm that it was ready, but when I walked in at 5pm, Ron apologized and told me he still had to finish my blouse and steam my pants since he's been so swamped. Luckily, Ron and I had discussed that I would be picking up my suit 3 days before I absolutely needed it, to give some leeway. He told me he could finish it up in 15 minutes, but I didn't want to rush him (it's my only suit, after all!!) so we agreed that I would return the next day. I was happy to see that my suit was ready this second time. Ron's business is in high demand, so if you drop off your clothes with him, it's kind of on you to contact him a day or two before to make sure your clothes will be finished as scheduled. I definitely trust the quality of Ron's work and his excellent service. I'll be bringing back my next suit, dress, or other more complicated piece of clothing to the Wardrobe Clinic. In my experience Ron did a fine job with minor alterations, such as pant tapering and hemming. The work was not always that precise (e.g., I had to point out when one sleeve was shorter than the other, lines weren't always straight) but overall it was fine. On the more complicated alterations, however, I was disappointed. In attempting to adjust the armholes and shoulders of my suit, Ron was not able to get it right and eventually gave up. One of the shoulders did not lay flat and rolled. Ron alternatively claimed I was seeing shadows or that the rolls would go away if the suit was pressed. (I just had the suit pressed and they're still there). Ron gave me a refund for the work he did on the shoulders, but I am still out about $150 for other work he did on the suit which I still can't wear. Overall, I think Ron is fine for simple alterations but I would not recommend using him for more complicated things. read more

I had two linen/denim items tailored here, super simple hemming and bringing the hips in- and I wish I had done it at home. His alteration service is quoted as being between $25 and $95 dollars. My fitting appointment was extremely rushed and overlapped with 3 other clients. The alterations themselves were fine but minor and I was charged the full $95 fee. I was shocked. Additionally, he did not fix a small hole in the seam of one garment which I had failed to mention during my very quick appointment. You'd think for $95 he might have noticed? My wife and I came to town for my company Holiday party. She found a beautiful gown, but didn't have time to get it hemmed. I would give this place zero stars if it were possible. Terrible customer service. Ron is crazy and charges you up front for a terrible job. He had about 3 weeks to make alterations to my dress and when I got to his studio on the day we agreed upon for pick up, it was clear that he had not done any work on the dress, as there were pins still in it. He told me to come back in one hour and when I came back to try the dress on, it fit horribly. I asked for a refund which he denied. I called back later and asked for a refund again and he yelled at me and claimed that the pick up day was actually just another fitting, which was bogus. Keep the dress Ron, it's a lost cause due to your sloppy tailoring. This place should be shut down, you should not have 4 stars on yelp. This business is a scam. We we're in crisis mode and Wardrobe clinic saved us! My boyfriend had covid and lost around 30lbs before his brothers wedding in May. Let me just say.. I don't write reviews often, but when I do, it's for good reason. After being in Philly for awhile and seeking a new tailor, I found the Wardrobe Clinic through all the great reviews. Ron Wilch is the owner of the shop and does majority of all the alterations. My first visit was great and I received the garments on time (even though they needed further adjustment). But my 2nd and 3rd time, oh boy. Here are the series of unprofessional events that I've never encountered at a tailor: 2nd Experience: - Dropped off around 5 pieces of clothing for alterations - Given a completion date of about 1.5 weeks - Came to pick up the clothing 2 days after it should have been ready and it wasnt started - Ron said he would put a rush on it and get it done for the next day - Came to pick it up next day and he accidentally put the rush on someone else's clothes. He then said he would drop it off the next day instead of me picking it up - No one dropped anything off next day - Ron says he will drop it off the following day - Nothing dropped off until 2am the following day After this experience, I was very hesitant to give Ron another chance. I have never experienced such false-hope, lies, and unprofessionalism by a tailor. But Ron's a nice guy so I gave him another chance.... 3rd Experience: - Scheduled appointment - Showed up to the appointment with the door locked and nobody answering - Called Ron and he said he was sorry and asked to reschedule for the next day - Showed up the next day and literally was left again with a locked door and nobody answering - Ron did not answer his phone. He answered a text and said "sorry give me one hour" I was dumbfounded. These are things you can't make up. I could care less if Ron produces decent quality work but consistently misses appointments, lies about completion dates, and is overall unprofessional. I won't be returning and won't be referring friends. This is all a shame because I thought Ron was a good guy, a man of his word, and that I would be doing all my future work with him. After making it clear how unprofessional it was to keep missing promised appointments, he has yet to reach out and try to give an explanation or keep me as a customer. Yelpers didn't let me down here! Ron is great, he made the alterations to my gown in just 45 minutes. I just needed a little length taken off, and decided to also have the slit moved a little higher. Considered taking one star off for price, as $75 dollars seemed steep for just hemming a dress, but he didn't charge me for the slit alteration and the work was done so quickly, that I can't really complain. This man was THE WORST. He was unprofessional, before I even discussed what I needed he asked how I heard of him and what number he came up on on the google search. The work was more expensive than I had expected, but Ron did WAY more than I expected - and it was worth it. I had purchased four off-the-rack suits, on sale/clearance, and was bringing them in to get them adjusted to fit me better. I thought that would primarily be cutting the pants to the right length, and taking out the waist on one pair, but the reason I'd searched Yelp for a good tailor was that I hoped a little more could be done. One of the suits made me feel like a million bucks, and I was wondering if anything could make the others feel a little more like that one. Ron made that happen. Some of the jackets (and arms) were shortened, the pants and arms tapered (part of what made that first suit feel so good, I realized), shoulders were taken in on at least one jacket, some butts were taken in to look less baggy, and I don't even know what else. The per-suit cost was as much as I'd paid for one suit, and almost as much as I'd paid for a second, which caused me a little psychic pain, I'll admit, but they look SO much better now. I have another suit at home (also high end, but bought on clearance) that I tried on after trying on the four I'd brought in, and it felt I was wearing garbage bags - I'm never wearing that suit again. I did have a couple "complaints" - but they more reflected my limited understanding of tailoring than anything else. I only mention them so that others bringing in off-the-rack suits for the first time can start with reasonable expectations. For some reason I thought the sleeves could be shortened, but the end result would look the same, in terms of distance to and number of buttons, so I was somewhat disappointed with how they looked when I got them back (buttons close to end and, in a couple cases, fewer buttons). But examining them, I can't see any way they could have been done better - it's not like those fake button holes can be magically disappeared. He also provided useful advice for one, recommending the removal of a button from each side on one suit, which makes it look like the last button is unbuttoned (which I know a lot of people intentionally get on custom suits anyway), but makes the proportions look much better. I also didn't realize that the pick stitching would be gone for areas shortened (lower part of the jacket) - I thought a new one would be easily added (not realizing how time consuming this would be - and probably even more beyond what I had budgeted, if it's even possible to blend perfectly). Nobody is going to notice that unless they're uncomfortably close to my midsection. Despite those initial concerns (based on my incorrect expectations), I can't even describe how much better the suits look - I can't imagine buying a suit again without getting the same things done. This place charged a lot to alter a bridesmaid dress for my daughter and forgot about it so it wasn't ready on the day it was supposed to be. Then, they said they would do it on the spot (since she was leaving for the wedding) and did a totally uneven hem. Completely wasted money on a terrible experience. I'm so happy to have finally found a tailor in Philly that I can trust. Ron recently tailored the hell out of a suit I bought and now it fits like a glove. He has a good eye for style and what looks good on your body. Your experience begins with a thorough fitting in his studio and a walk through of what he thinks needs to be done to your garment. I said yes to every suggestion he had about my suit and it paid off. My favorite part was the shoulders. Off the rack they looked boxy, like I was wearing shoulder pads or something. Ron worked some kind of magic on them, and now the suit looks all GQ. From my experience, I don't think there are many other tailors who will mess with shoulder alterations. He's worth all the hype. And absolute nightmare, lied to us about the suit, when it would be ready, had us show up on 3 occasions and the suit was not ready. Asked for return of the suit and our money, we are still getting the run around. Out approximately $1,000.00 due to this business. I have contacted the BBB, the police and the local business compliance office. read more
