Tonight…read morewe even had great live entertainment by an Irish Band, one playing the tin whistle, one playing the banjo, one playing the guitar, and lastly one member of the band playing the Bodhran ( Irish drum). Now onto the food, we had a set menu as we were part of a group of 41 dining here from a bus tour of Ireland. I had the Hake which was lightly fried and came with a creamy sauce. It was decent. My girlfriend has the Irish beef stew and we had many beef stews on our 8 day tour of Ireland and this was not one of the better ones. My girlfriend and I agreed it tasted like it came out of a Campbell soup can. The mussel appetizer was in a creamy sauce, the mussels were rather tiny and it's my preference not to have them in a buttery, creamy sauce. I would always prefer a garlicky sauce but I believe these were served mostly in a white wine and butter sauce. To each their own If that's the flavor profile you prefer. Now the desserts were interesting. It sounded like the sherry fruit dessert pictured was a mix of gelatin and fruit and some small bits of cake mixed in. It honestly wasn't my fav but it sounded like it was an old recipe that ran in the family of one of the owners. I like that they are daring and put unique items on the dessert menu, again just wasn't my flavor profile. Lastly, my girlfriend got the pavlova, which is a meringue and whipped cream concoction with fruit and I really loved this unique dessert. I wouldn't come back personally but I read somewhere it was voted pub of year in 2018. I will be unloading a plethora of reviews from Ireland in the coming days so please follow me if you would like to read more. As always people SYOY!!!!

The authentic Victorian setting, the Victorian mahogany fittings, the mosaic marble tiled floors and granite tabletops, the mahogany bar, capped with red Connemara marble, follows the classic Victorian architectural pattern. The staff are helpful, friendly and patient since their accent is hard to understand sometime. My 1st beer and 1st Irish food, all I can say is what a meal, just simple delish. Being here is just a wondrous experience, the place is cosy, warm and the friendly of the people. So glad I picked this place as my first of Dublin.

Tucked down Dame Court just off Dame Street, The Stag's Head is one of those rare pubs that feels genuinely historic rather than designed to look old. The building dates to the late 1800s, and the interior retains the ornate features of a classic Victorian "gin palace"--rich carved wood, stained glass, brass rails, and a warm, glowing bar that feels wonderfully preserved. We stopped in around 4:30 pm, which turned out to be a perfect time to visit. There were other patrons enjoying drinks and food, but the atmosphere was calm and relaxed rather than loud or rowdy. It felt like the kind of place where locals drop in for a quiet pint on their way home from work before the evening crowd arrives. The staff were excellent--friendly, welcoming, and attentive without being intrusive. The food was very good (we failed to take photos because we were too busy enjoying it). As a vegetarian, I was thrilled to see the Impossible burger front and center on their menu; it was deliciously prepared with guacamole on a brioche bun, and not an afterthought on the menu. My companions both chose the Irish Beef Burger, and said it was excellent. One thing to know: this is a traditional Victorian pub, so cocktails aren't really part of the program. Expect beer, wine, or spirits rather than mixed drinks. In a place like this, that actually feels exactly right. Other pubs do serve mixed drinks. Between the history, the ambience, the quality of the food, and the wonderful staff, The Stag's Head is the kind of place that makes you feel like you've experienced a real piece of Dublin.

This really is a bit of a gem of a place so I almost don't want to tell people about it! The facility is lovely and, even though it's an old building, they keep it very fresh and clean looking with updated furnishing and fixtures while still maintaining a very homey feel. I love it when the fires are going and the bar is very cozy and bright. On this occasion, we chose the dining room. When we arrived, we were taken to a table in one of the larger rooms in the back that are more typically used for events. It was a lovely room but I preferred to be somewhere a little closer to the bar and main, older part of the building. The hostess was perfectly accommodating and this was no problem. Instead, my husband and I put in our orders at the bar while we had a drink and when our food was ready, they took us to a different table. The service was completely friendly and efficient. The food was absolutely delicious. I had a hard time choosing what to order, but settled on the fresh hake with roast potatoes, tomatoes and cauliflower puree. It was so so good. I ate everything. My husband got a steak and chips, which were perfectly cooked. The meals around ours looked very good, too. Donegan's also pulls a brilliant pint and we had both Guinness and Smithwicks. Can't wait until we can come back again. Just love this place.

My husband and I both got fish & chips which were great, and the kids got chicken nuggets and chips and pasta, great big portions and everything came very quickly (though we were having a pretty early dinner, around 5 pm). I was impressed that the pasta had a chunky homemade bolognese sauce on it. The beer menu seemed somewhat limited but that could also be due to Covid and how much they're able to supply at the moment. We sat in their outdoor seating area which is OK - they've definitely done their best to try and stay open and meet the restrictions! I think I will enjoy it better when the indoor dining reopens though as it's hard to make a tent attractive. This is a great little off-the-beaten-track place though and I do hope to be back soon.

Walking through the bar I was sure we were going to a seat at the back, away from the windows, but large double doors opened into a bright modern restaurant, with a wonderful view of the sea through windows that run the full length of the the dining area. The food was very nice, and the view and surroundings were pretty spectacular. The sun was shining, and two horses were cantering down the beach. We went for a stroll along the sea front after our meal. Very idyllic.
