This place is set in the County Louth countryside. It's been a very long time since we dined here…read moreand it was just as we remembered; really friendly staff, comfy booths to sit in and darn great Sunday lunch food. We all enjoyed our food. I opted for their seafood chowder to start with. It was piping hot, very tasty and packed with fish including salmon and cod. It came served up in a shallow iron skillet pan. The chowder was sprinkled with cheddar cheese which was browned under a fierce hot electric grill, a gas grill would have produced a different taste. As I said it was superb but if the cheese was a strong mature cheddar instead it would be sublime. I had the catch of the day for my main as it turned out to be pan fried, thick Icelandic cod. This is an exceptional fish and the chef produced an exceptional dish. Perfectly fresh, chunky milky white cod on a bed of mash in a light sauce. As a tv food presenter says 'cooking doesn't get much better than this.' It just doesn't. The roasted chunky vegetables were mostly the supposedly humble carrot and turnip. These vegetables too were really perfect. They were so tasty, roasted at high heat and perfectly cooked. I remember when we used to boil carrots and parsnips to an inch of their lives and then pour all the goodness out in the cooking water!! Again these vegetables are a great accompaniment whether it's fish, ham or beef. We couldn't manage desserts so it was perfectly good cappuccinos all round. We hope it won't be too long before we return.

I cannot believe how large this pub is inside! We stopped by after seeing it on a "Traditional Pubs…read moreof Ireland" poster, and because my grandfather's name was James Griffin. The atmosphere was perfect! It was early Sunday morning, and there were already a few locals inside having their morning beer and reading the newspaper. I did some exploring because it looks so small on the outside, but you get in, and it just keeps going and going. Looks like they get large crowds during the evenings, and even offer lots of live music and DJs. The bartender was friendly.

What can I say besides fabulous! Trim is off the beaten path from Dublin, but definitely on the map…read morewhen it comes to historical must-sees while you're in Ireland! So when you pass thru Trim to see the Castle, call in to this gorgeous pub. When you walk in, it is old school classic pub with beautiful woodwork and bar. From there, you can go in the cozy fireplace room that feels and looks great and leads to another cozy area to meet and be with friends. If you like patios, you're at the right place! Step out back and find a covered & climate controlled patio that is huge! They have a large smoking patio area (you can't smoke inside in Ireland either). Thru the patio, you can see a big events room that you can host a reception, party, meeting, whatever. It's been a few months since my last visit, but I've heard they have a new beer garden too! Oh yes, the drinks...the Guinness is perfect. You can get almost any tasty beverage here from a nice bartender. The owner is hands-on and always working to keep this place top notch.
