The room was large and comfortably warm with lots of tables and chairs. The sound system was great and we got unplanned company - two folks we know came up and asked to join us. They were delightful company. A great crowd turned out for this very very funny man - typical Newry as most folks appeared just 10 minutes before the show start. The bar had a few staff to cope with a happy, thirsty crowd. During interval time I got a bar order for three and then popped down to the ground floor bar for a very tasty cappuccino just for me. All served with a smile. The event itself was organised by the wonderful A Iur Cinn Fleadh. They also organise the boat trips down Newry canal. The last time we saw his show here it was also organised by them in a city that you wouldn't think has a public arts centre and a public town hall. They aren't just under used they aren't used. They are truly wonderful volunteers and great ambassadors for our area. They are almost the last volunteer group we have standing here as our local NMDDC has/is systematically destroying such groups. They are a different type of comedy club who want to spend £18 million on their own new premises with a free car park for themselves but don't ask about a public park. The High Street community group are deliberately starved of funding and the local LGBTQI Pride In Newry were so successful at running events they had to be cast aside despite running much better events for a fraction of the prices incompetent NMDDC shell out. Wake The Giant is a giant annual waste of rates money well into six figures.

My husband and I were living in London so we only were able to visit a few times before our April 2013 wedding to confirm arrangements. Even though our wedding was very atypical for Ireland -only 60 guests, we brought our own music on a laptop, we made a toastie bar at the back for the late buffet (bringing our own toastie maker), and limited decor- they took care of everything. On the night of, the whole staff did an incredible job of taking care of our guests, some of whom were picky about food and got some alternate options. Eamon (sp?) was there to attend to our every need. He kept refilling our beverages at the head table so we never had to head to the bar. Our specifications for the meal were handled expertly. I am lactose-intolerant and they made sure to accommodate with a milk-free soup as a starter. We ordered 2 bottles of wine per table that were laid out for us. For a great price we had a turkey option (no ham because I don't eat pork), beef, and vegetarian option available for all of the guests. We didn't have to specify exact numbers, either; servers went around with plates and sorted it all very easily for us. We were able to pick our own flavours for cheesecake dessert, too! My husband loves Galaxy Caramel and their chefs were able to whip together a Galaxy Caramel cheesecake that everyone loved. There was a bride's room beside the reception so I could sneak away for a break and leave my purse there. The bartender was great, as well. Overall, everything was handled so wonderfully from the planning, to the tea before the reception while we had our photos taken, to the meal and dancing. Everyone did their best to make our night perfect. They even had a deal on at the time where we got a free brunch the next day with our guests! We had about 20 people for a delicious chicken curry breakfast with, again, great service. They cleaned up after the event and had all of our things organized for us (laptop, vases we had rented from elsewhere for each of the tables, etc). I can't recommend Bellini's any more highly as a wedding reception venue. They made my wedding day relaxing and enjoyable. I had the best day of my life and Bellini's was a big part of that.

My husband and I both got fish & chips which were great, and the kids got chicken nuggets and chips and pasta, great big portions and everything came very quickly (though we were having a pretty early dinner, around 5 pm). I was impressed that the pasta had a chunky homemade bolognese sauce on it. The beer menu seemed somewhat limited but that could also be due to Covid and how much they're able to supply at the moment. We sat in their outdoor seating area which is OK - they've definitely done their best to try and stay open and meet the restrictions! I think I will enjoy it better when the indoor dining reopens though as it's hard to make a tent attractive. This is a great little off-the-beaten-track place though and I do hope to be back soon.

Walking through the bar I was sure we were going to a seat at the back, away from the windows, but large double doors opened into a bright modern restaurant, with a wonderful view of the sea through windows that run the full length of the the dining area. The food was very nice, and the view and surroundings were pretty spectacular. The sun was shining, and two horses were cantering down the beach. We went for a stroll along the sea front after our meal. Very idyllic.

The menu choices hadn't changed very much but the prices have sure increased by 20% 30% in most cases and I'm cynical enough to think that it's not wholly justifiable. I do understand some costs have risen but suspect some price gouging too. We had a range of food: beef and chicken burgers, steaks and a vegetarian. Now pasta and vegetables have not risen 30%. Nor have spuds. The food was excellent, with one annoying exception - the baked Alaska. It was far too granular sugar loaded, the ice cream was mean and poor tasting, there was very little raspberry coulis, the sponge wasn't spongy and still worse it had frozen sliced strawberries within. Clearly the dessert was in the freezer to go to the hot oven in its iron skillet and it woulda worked but for the science. Baked Alaska works as the meringue insulates the ice cream to keep it frozen while the outside browns. So the frozen sliced strawberries benefit from the insulation and also stay frozen. Just stop putting strawberries into a dessert to be pre frozen and add to the dessert post cooking. I won't knock a star for this as it's easily remedied. The service was tip top and the servers were real attentive. One of the attractions of places like this was that you got a bargain so you also went more often but those days are gone and now with prices coming much closer to the top notch places like Fitzpatricks while the food offerings aren't commensurately better just more money it's more likely that folks will go there so price gouging can be counter productive.

This seemed efficient and fairly up-to-speed. Everything was going ok until the food started to arrive out. Cutlery was thrown in the middle of our very long table in a pile. They must have been thinking "help yourselves, because you're not worth us giving table service?". I'd trust this wouldn't happen with tables of 4 or 2, so if you're a larger group, forget about expecting the basics of table service. Grab them yourselves. Food arrived out and very few of us were wowed. I had seafood tagliatelle which consisted of tiny chunks of salmon, a few prawns and 2 crab claws - over-drowned in a thick, sickening creamy sauce. That's what ruined it for me. At just shy of £16 I would have been expecting a)everything to be perfectly cooked in the dish and rationed accordingly, and b) to at least have mussels and maybe even a few clams or a substitute seafood. A friend remarked that his salt & chilli squid was like something from Iceland and the accompanying sauce was horrible. Dessert time, and the menu came framed in an oversized box frame?! Don't get it. A lot of ordered desserts and/or drinks. Again, spoons fired in the middle of the table. They were nice. Drinks never arrived for a lot of us, I reordered mine and then a second one was about to come out (I told the waiter that I wasn't ordering a second, I just never got the first.) They tried to charge for both on the bill which says to me the staff aren't communicating effectively and aren't amending the bills correctly. We hadn't planned on going here as we had intended to try Melissa O' Hare's food truck offerings that were the same offerings a week ago on our first sojourn. She had parked up within a glamping style place with a stunning view of Camlough lake. It was a dull cool overcast grey day. We speculated that Melissa wouldn't be too busy. Wrong as the line was huge. We guessed we'd queue at least an hour but we aren't prepared to queue five minutes especially in this climate of 9 winter months, two autumn months and maybe one summer month. So we ended up here. All four of us loved our food here. I had delicious fish tacos (£16 with a choice of side). The fish was cod in a light batter with fresh lime, coriander, fresh chilli. My first choice of scampi wasn't available. I opted for a chunky chips side to share around as I didn't want them. While 5 star grub it's too expensive for what it is but was the only dish overpriced. I noted from the menu that a fillet steak with fixings is now £40. The desserts (all £6.5) were scrumptious and fair priced - I had raspberry ruffle baked Alaska and a flat white (£3). Cosy place. The staff are wonderful too. Hope we return soon.
