Steak, Brussels sprouts, mashed potatoes
Madalyn V.

The Valkyrie is a beautiful space that feels welcoming and is always clean. The BLT (no t) sandwich I got was very greasy. The bread was very thin. I don't think I would get it again because it was not worth the price. The french fries were amazing though! If you are a french fry snob, you must try the french fries if you visit! My boyfriend ordered the steak w/ Brussels sprouts and mashed potatoes and said it was good. There isn't anything that is urging us to go again though. I feel that the pricing is a little high. The spinach and artichoke dip was $15. I have been to a lot of restaurants and I have never seen spinach dip be so expensive as an appetizer. From being there before, I noticed the owner was there when we were having dinner. When we walked out, we had to walk right by her and the hostess and neither of them thanked us for coming in or said to have a good night etc. but they did look right at us. Those small things are what people remember. I was honestly quite disappointed to not hear from either of them on our way out. Of course not everyone dining in is going to know who the owner is, but I know the face to the restaurant just from visiting over the years. I have followed The Valkyrie since day one when they started as a coffee shop, and I do want this restaurant to succeed! I think they are still trying to find their niche! Overall an okay experience with a friendly waitress but a little pricey for what it is.

We came for the opening last week and were shocked by the great wine list. To have a legit sommelier in North Muskegon is amazing! Came back tonight for dinner and it was fabulous. Thanks, Devin, for the great wine recommendations!

Delicious salad.

I can't rave enough about fresh, and delicious the food was. If you are in the neighborhood definitely plan on stopping by this restaurant it was so good. Make sure to try out your ax throwing in the back. So much fun!

The Valkyrie is amazing and you should come here. The flavors and sense of place were exactly what I was expecting and the presentation was beautiful. The flavors were of course great. The beef tartare was perhaps the best that I have ever had (I've probably had it a dozen times at restaurants around the world). The smoked salmon flatbread was good (though I was not wowed by it only because my wife regularly makes something similar). The quality of the smoked salmon was excellent. My wife had the hamburger which was one of the best and most original she has ever had. The smoked beets were a revelation -- they are excellent smoked; I had never had them that way before. Everything was perfectly seasoned. The rye bread pudding with beet ice cream was amazing. My wife hates caraway seeds and yet she still loved this. It was the perfect not too sweet dessert and though I have been eating desserts at good restaurants for two decades this was one of the few interesting and new desserts I've had. Multiple cocktails looked good; I was designated driver so I only had one at the beginning of the meal, a Greenland (I love my green Chartreuse!). My wife appreciated the wine flights and the availability of nice wines by the glass (thanks to a Coravin). Service was impeccable. The only negative thing was there was a band playing as it was a Saturday night and they were too loud (over-amplified). The music was good, at least. Still, considering they have only been around for three weeks this is a small problem.

The menus are QR codes on the tables, which is pretty standard. I didn't love that food and drinks are on separate tabs. So with 2 of us there, we had 4 tabs by the end. 1 each for food, and 1 each for drinks. It felt a little disjointed. It was also a little hard to get a server's attention when needed. You order on your phone, but just to get a couple glasses of water it took some time to flag down our server. And really, it's more of a host/food-runner situation since all the order processing is done online. I'm not super into cocktails, but their drinks really sounded amazing. They have some very fun, and inventive cocktails. If we hadn't already been to 2 breweries I probably would've ordered one. Instead I had a beer, which I believe was a house made IPA, and was fine. We weren't super hungry so we each ordered some egg rolls and shared them. Not necessarily the best I've ever had, but they were definitely good enough. I appreciate that they had some fun, not typical types of egg rolls on the menu. The space was cool, and I liked the food well enough that I'd go back. Hopefully it will feel a little more like a dining experience next time. That, or they could just have people order at a counter and it would make more sense. The Sunday brunch menu is small, but sounds amazing. I'm more likely to return for that rather than for a dinner.

HURL and SPEW more like it…read more A round of applause to the menu writer for creating intrigue. And also props to the waiters for having a positive attitude about deplorable food. I DO NOT recommend eating the food here. Laughably bad. The heirloom tomato was described as marinated, pickled, smoked, candied, and blistered with micro cilantro and finishing salt. Okay, already trying too hard with the descriptors. And no effort whatsoever with the actual execution of the dish. It was truly cold cherry tomatoes with olive oil and salt. Sad. A little funny. And ultimately puzzling. The shrimp was $15 for 3 shrimp plated on shredded iceberg and pickled jalapeño. The wontons might have been purchased at Trader Joe's and thrown in the deep frier. Lastly, the burrata. I should have known better than to order burrata "fried," that's a tragic oxymoron. Rubbery on the inside, crusty on the outside, and seeping with milky juices, tenderly plated with thin slices of hamburger bun cutely called a crostini. Stick to the cocktails-- had we only stopped for drinks, our review would have been glistening with stars.

Love the free chips and salsa while you wait for your food. Only downside is you only get two topping for free on the tacos and sour cream is extra.

I wasn't going to write a review, but the 1 star from "Threasa" saying that a different restaurant…read moreneeds the same menu as another restaurant with a different name in a different location and that taco salad is runny made me laugh hard enough to pull the old yelp app off the cloud and wipe off my raspberry-sticky margarita fingers to type. This is a perfectly nice Mexican restaurant. Chips and salsa come with the meal, and both are good. The menu is relatively small compared to some other Mexican restaurants who put every possible combination that the ingredients in the kitchen might could make. There are still plenty of items on the menu. I had the chimichanga meal, and it was delicious. The rice and refried beans are so good. Now, I have never ordered a taco salad at a restaurant because that's what my Aunt Karen (a lovely woman, not at all a "Karen") made for every family potluck when I was a kid in the 80s, and although it was fine it reminds me of the jello salad that shared the same table, and I'm not paying good money to have Gen-X childhood flashbacks. So maybe the salad is wet. Chopped up veg often is. The chimichanga and rice and beans with a margarita though? Delicious. 5 stars.
