This place needs negative stars. You might take the illiteracy displayed in the magic marker signs in the window as a foreshadowing of the ignorance that you will face in your journey to mail anything out of this place. The pink and purple haired worker that smells like wiccan incense is the most disagreeable person you may ever interact with in your lifetime. Every time I come in here he glares while muttering to his co-worker about how awful his NJ Transit bus commute is to Clifton. Sounds depressing, but I don't want to hear about it. I need to package and mail something for work, and I need tracking and a receipt. He attempts to make you feel apologetic for bringing business into the shop and ultimately creating revenue to pay his wage. Everything is a problem with this kid. All of the patience and pleasantry that you can muster is met head on with disdain. His supervisor (I forget his name, but want to say"Marlon" or maybe "Marvin") is his polar opposite. This guy is legitimately helpful, polite, professional, personable and empathetic. Problem is that you will get the disagreeable kid with the piercings much more often. I should know. This store is a paradox. As others have noted, it is situated in a Utopian, tudor charmed location where Montclair proper meets head on with Upper Montclair. The customer service experience one receives at other UPS stores in less attractive towns is actually quite good. So, why does this owner operated one suck so bad? Unfriendly service; they refuse to print receipts or provide tracking numbers for prelabeled packages (e.g. Amazon returns). I strongly prefer going to the UPS Store in Clifton, where they automatically print you a receipt with no hassle, and the service is much friendlier. read more

Went in to send a package overnight and was clearly interrupting staff who were comparing their favorite emojis. I was handed a label to double-check the shipping address but it was pulled out of my hand before I could finish--as were the documents I had to sign agreeing to the shipping terms. It looked like they had some cute things for sale but I felt I was being rushed out of the store. There's a reason this store has amassed such a negative reputation. You know when people have such strong opinions about a UPS store something must be going on. Despite knowing this, I attempted to swing by to do what should've been an easy transaction and I vow never to return. It's just not worth the aggravation or the unpleasantries. Employees are rude, hostile, ignorant, and unhelpful. They seem to take glee in turning away packages for arbitrary reasons (that all other stores readily accept) and will only help when it involves price gouging you in some way. They appear to resent prelabelled items and unnecessarily complicate the use of them. Attitude of employees clearly comes from the top down and rudeness and hostility runs throughout the entire store. I've been here twice and both times I've received excellent service. I came in today to return an amazon package and the guy waved the fee for me and taped it up. He was super nice about it. The last time I also was returning something and there was no fee. Fast friendly service. Maybe I just am getting different people working? An awful bunch of chiselers. I would give them less than one star if I could. Amazon Prime has taken to giving out codes to those returning items and asking that you get the shipping label printers at your local UPS store. These guys insist you buy packaging from them to do it. Even-though by letting the item for pick up with them I am sure generates a feee for them. Anyway I will never darker their door again. The owner is a liar. I went in with a question and asked Peter, the owner, specific questions about shipping rates that I had seen online, including why there was a big difference between prices. He told me that perhaps I had put in the wrong information. I shipped the package, went home and put in the information again, and got a rate that was half of what he charged. I called him back, asked him why, and after going back and forth a number of times, he admitted that his rates (as a franchise) were different than what UPS itself charges. I asked him why he didn't explain that to me, and he said that he didn't have time to explain everything to every customer. Let me start by saying I'm not an internet troll who enjoys leaving negative reviews for businesses. I'm just so annoyed at what happened this morning that I felt compelled to take time to share what happened. Headline: AVOID this UPS location. First, a few months ago, a package that I dropped off at this UPS location never made it to its end destination. It was a huge hassle for me and the lesson learned is that I need to make sure packages are scanned and a receipt handed over to me before I leave. Fast forward to today. I went here this morning to drop off a package with a pre-paid UPS label. Waited in line for 20 minutes, as I wanted it scanned, wanted a receipt. When I got to the counter, before I could speak, I was told "you're all set" as the UPS employee took the package and waved the next person over. I said that I'd like the package to be scanned and want a receipt before leaving. He said he could not do that, and continued to dismiss me and wave the next person over. I told him I had lost a package at this location before and I wasn't willing to leave without it scanned. He said he could not do that. He didn't offer an explanation and was not kind or empathetic. It was clear, as he would barely look at me and kept waving the next person over, that he just wanted me to leave. He said something about "peak season" and "batches" and I understand that this is peak season for them (after all, I had just waited in line for 20 minutes, waiting my turn for service) but in my opinion the efficiency of their back end process should not override the service that I'm requesting when it's my turn at the counter. I left with my package and went to the UPS drop off location in the CVS on Valley Road (per a suggestion from another customer who overheard the exchange and who agreed that this location is horrible). The experience there was quick, lovely, and I didn't even need to ask for the package to be scanned/a receipt - it was a given. I will never go to this location again. Avoid. read more

Well, coming a few times in a row at opening time waiting 10 or 15 minutes past the hour and having no one open is not very professional. Waiting three months for an insurance claim is also not very professional. Calling and there being no answering machine or way to reach them also not ranking high in customer service. It's really great to have a neighborhood UPS store in a nice location. I didn't submit this review until my fourth bad experience. Some of the guys there are very nice, there is usually not a long wait, they are generous with their supplies, certainly no one has been blatantly rude, -- stealing 20 minutes out of my busy day not once but several times just put me over the yelp edge --they have the potential to be a really nice neighborhood store but right now they're not. UPDATE: I decided to give this place another chance, more out of convenience. I hate that his UPS store is the closest one to me because the owner is SUPER rude and does not care AT ALL about customer service. This was my third visit (I have shipped 4 paid packages with this place). Prior to this visit I was serviced by young employees who weren't super friendly, but they weren't as rude as the owner either, which is not saying much. Today's visit was a hot mess, and the determining factor in my never returning there again. I'll drive miles to the next UPS Store to avoid this nonsense. For starters, the owner doesn't greet people as they walk in. It's a small space so it's super awkward to walk in and have him just standing there staring at you. Then he just puts his hand out to receive the package with no expression. This time I had a pre-paid package to drop off, and when I asked him for a receipt he rudely said "you can go online and track it". What??? WOW! He is fresh out of cares. One star might be one too many. This is one of the worst customer service experiences I've ever had. A year ago in my presence the owner, a Korean-American, "joked" to an African-American customer that he looked like a dog. Ha ha. Then, when UPS sent my package to the wrong address, the store manager was defensive, rude, and unhelpful. He told me I would need to figure out who had my package before he could send a driver to pick it up. I got another mail service to locate my package and send it to the correct address. After over a year of having an employee pick up my mail and packages without a problem, suddenly the idiot who owns the store said he "didn't recognize him" and refused to give him my items. I called to find out why, and the owner "Peter"(def not his real name) told me he was "doing me a favor" by giving him my items. I told him he wasn't doing me a favor, that I had personally added this employee to be able to pick up my stuff. He was RUDE and UNPROFESSIONAL on the phone, constantly talking over me. I could barely understand what he was saying as English is not his first language, nor does he comprehend it. When my employee got to my office to go over what was received(as I am currently away), there were three missing packages! I asked my employee if the owner told him they were missing, he said he said NOTHING to my employee, shoved the items he DID manage to find in his hand, and turned and walked away WITHOUT SAYING ANYTHING. I called the store, and the owner told me he didn't know where my 3 packages were, and then hung up on me! I called back, and asked him why he didn't tell my employee there were missing packages, because my employee would have waited there until they were found. He told me he did say they were missing. And then he said he was looking for them AND HUNG UP ON ME AGAIN! I immediately called UPS, and told them he lost my packages, and they called the store. Miraculously, they were immediately found. And today, I wake up to a notice in my email the MY BOX HAS BEEN CLOSED! I'm calling UPS Store Operations on Monday morning, 1-800-789-4623, to file a formal complaint, and I suggest if YOU have any kind of terrible experience, you do the same. This "Peter" should not be allowed to represent UPS in this, rude, unprofessional way. And then to take revenge on someone who DARED to complain! read more

Do not I repeat do not use this UPS store the owner whoever whatever his name is the Asian man that was behind the counter yesterday was the most obnoxious rude man I've ever met it was my first time in a store I had my mascon I didn't know what I was doing and he said I had to use the computer for my return I don't have my glasses I was trying to ask him for help he wasn't answering me we signed on he walked away he was helping other people he won't answer me I did not know that I was being charged most of the time I stood there waiting for him to come back to help me and he didn't come back. this other young man came and helped me to inform me that I needed to move closer to the door to get a better connection to my phone. A rating of 1 star is far more than this place deserves. I sent a hand crafted glass piece though this store that was priceless. I relied on Chris who's comment was "if I pack it it won't break" in addition to stating that if he packed it would carry insurance. He was so cocky and arrogant that he neglected to ask if I wanted "additional" insurance. Needless to say, he apparently has no reason to be arrogant because the piece arrive cracked and broken. Because he neglected to inform me the package was only insured for $100, the value of the piece was never covered. I have been in Ups stores before where service and customer care mean something. That is not this store. They are unprofessional, untrustworthy and repeat of responsibility. My suspicion is that Chris didn't even include proper packing, just charged me an inordinate amount to send. Despite the convenience, it is not worth entering the store. read more

Brought in box with prepaid UPS return label...asked for a receipt for the box...employee said cannot give one because they are an agent for UPS and UPS is the shipper. I said, OK, give me a receipt that you, the store, took it from me ....said he couldn't do that, they don;t give receipts unless we are shipping and paying them. I asked what prevents him from taking the box and it never getting there or what happens if the store loses it before UPS gets it..how do I prove you got it. He said, you don't. I went to ship a package to the hurricane striken Caribbean and the UPS store in Rutherford discouraged me from doing so because packages were being stolen and not delivered and UPS store said UPS was not responsible for any loss packages. uh????? It made no sense whatsoever. So I went to this UPS store in Montclair and the difference in knowledge, service, care, professionalism was day and night. I am sorry I forgot his name (skinny guy with dark brown hair) was incredibly attentive and not only did he say UPS had people guarding packages, he confirmed UPS of course would be responding in case of any packages not delivered. The attendant proceeded to pack my 75 lb package in another box and his attention to details was superb. I went to this store to deliver packages to the same location twice and never had a problem and the package was delivered within the week considering the circumstances post hurricane Maria. It was not cheap but gladly paid it knowing my highly anticipated package was in great hands. read more
