This was my initial order at Upper Crust Bakery. I've enjoyed their pies in the past at other occasions or venues, but this was the first time I placed an order. I've attempted to order a strawberry pie in the past but this was the first time I was successful. Apparently, they're now marketing this so hopefully we can make this a tradition. I ordered and paid for the pie a couple of weeks prior to pick-up day over the telephone. A coworker picked up the pie when scheduled and it was beautiful. Moreover, it was delicious and everyone including the birthday guy enjoyed their slice. In fact, we enjoyed round 2 with the leftover pie a few days later. Unfortunately, we failed to photograph the pie. Visualize a mounting heap of glazed berries in a pie crust with a beautiful trim of whip cream. Ive been wanting to visit upper crust for years, and I finally just took the plunge before pie day. There's really no parking, but it's lake worth, so easy to just park on the side street. There was one staff member inside, maybe she was having a bad day. It's very small and barebones inside. I ordered several mini pies- it was difficult to determine what was in stock since some things were in a refrigerator instead of the display case. The pies did not disappoint! I had pie brain from the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday. I love all pie, fruit, chocolate, and savory. Roll out a crust, slap in a filling, and I am there for the first slice. As much as I love pie I really don't like rolling out a crust. I have a good recipe and every time I make a pie I think it was worth the effort but the idea of baking a pie exhausts me. I always wrestle with the idea of is it worth it to spend the money on ingredients and bake the pie myself or should I just buy one for the Thanksgiving table and no one would probably care anyway. To that end I decided to taste test the pie at Upper Crust in Lake Worth. Upper crust got its start in 1978 when Raul Quintero and his family moved from Pompano Beach to Lake Worth where he purchased an old cake shop located on Dixie Highway and worked on developing deep dish pie with a flaky crust and fresh fillings. Upper Crist is right near a thrift store I like to frequent so it was convenient stop to make after my shopping trip. There is a small amount of street parking on the side of the building. Come early for best selection. If you wanted to preorder pies for the Thanksgiving holiday you had to have it in by November 15th. They had a select number of additional pies for purchase. Pies are 9 inches deep and serve 8 and will stay fresh for up to 7 days after purchase. They also have mini pies but not for Thanksgiving. The first thing I noticed is that prices have gone up since the menu was last posted on Yelp. Fruit pies have gone from $14.50 to $18.00. A mini pie is now $5.00. I ended up trying an apple mini pie. It was good but didn't make me want to spend nearly $20 on an apple pie. According to CBS Sunday morning segment you can save up to 50 percent by making your own pie so that is what I did. I bought the ingredients at Aldi's and made the Pioneer Woman's recipe. I probably saved even more than that. If you don't care about the price or are in a time crunch, they have a lot of flavors and make a good pie. It was superior to a supermarket pie but they are getting pretty expensive. read more

I have been hearing about Upper Crust for so many years so I decided this will be the year to give them a shot. I was very happy with the blueberry pie. It had a lot of filling and wasn't overly sweet which I appreciated. The crust was very good and the pie was freshly made. Would definitely order this again. The banana cream pie was good but I was a bit disappointed with how it was prepared. The crust was good, same crust used for our blueberry pie. The creamy banana filling was amazing and had freshly sliced bananas mixed into the cream filling. I was let down because the pie could have used a lot more filling. The top was covered with whipped cream, lots of unnecessary whipped cream. More crust and whipped cream than the pie filling. The pie was still excellent but for $20, I would have expected more of the yummy filling. I am looking forward to trying their butterscotch cream pie and their peach pie. If you don't want to drive to Lake Worth you can pick them up at Bedners Markets. Ellie's 50's Diner did me a favor and added our pies to their order. Even though the banana cream needed more filling, I wouldn't hesitate to order it again. The pies are fairly priced considering they are made with high quality fresh ingredients. Why I'll go back: Because whatever flavor of pie I'm in the mood for, they make it! You HAVE to try: I'm partial to key lime. However, they offer a variety of berry pies, all of which are great. Unless you're a purist (blackberry, apple, etc.), the mixed berry is delicious. Tony's Tip: A two-fer here - first, the place opens at 10:00 and is often sold out by 1:30. Second, while I will often pop in for a couple individual pies and choose from what's left, you can order ahead ANY pie from their extensive list. Next on the list was Upper Crust, which is actually the name of a well-known local pizza chain in my hometown of Boston. Anyway, I pull up to this bare bones-looking corner shop on S. Dixie Hwy thinking it's gonna be strike three. And in a way, it was. No croissant. No bagels. No muffins or banana bread or breakfast sandwiches. Not even coffee. Just pies. Lots of pies. Of every flavor imaginable. A pie lover's dream, in fact! Turns out, this place has been around for decades, and all of the locals know it well. So, I decide to grab a large berry pie and a couple individual ones. I come home empty-handed (sort of), but the wife and I decide to pivot to pie for breakfast. You can order ANY of these with a day or two's notice, either large or individual. The product is VERY consistent. And the prices are more than reasonable - $5 for an individual pie that is good for two or no more than $20 for a whole pie that will last you for days. This is now a regular stop whenever we come back down to our condo in Palm Beach, and it's a must order when we host friends or have family for the holidays. My first time going to Upper Crust and my initial impression was a scowling lady (owner, manager?) who while not mean was not welcoming either, however when we left she was nearing pleasant and that can be because we purchased several pies. The shop could use a sprucing up and like the woman's attitude would benefit from some improvements. The pies ranged from okay to good. The problem I had was that the Peach Pie seemed to be not fresh peaches and I understand for the price and season I'm not going to get fresh peaches but this was like one of those syrupy peach fruit cups. The Cherry's in the Cherry Pie also seemed like they were of the canned variety and despite that both pies were still okay. With apples it's harder to discern and perhaps because of that I found the Apple Pie to be pretty good. The best pie was the Banana Cream Pie and this had a more natural taste and a good ratio of crust to filling and instead of mostly a cream filling it had a good amount of fruit. I would go back to Upper Crust and give them another try. read more

If you are looking for the best fresh made pies, look no further. This store has been making amd selling pies since 1978. We have been getrimg them since then. Make sure to go early in the day or order to get what you want. We went kater im the day and they only had pumpkin and a few mini pies. The banana cream pie is out of this world. Purchased a pie at a local market- peach is one of my favorites and it was good! I did feel it was a little pricey but it was fairly large and tasted fresh! The crust is very thick and buttery! The filling was good (wished there was more) and peaches tasted perfectly sweet and tangy. I grew up enjoying The Upper Crust Bakery. Truly a well known institution in PB County, at one time they delivered pies to local restaurants. They have a loyal following and if you want your flavor call ahead to ensure its availability because once gone you have to wait for the next day. As pies are made fresh daily any flavor will delight the senses. Thank god they have individual pies of the most requested flavors, like Chocolate Cream or Luscious Lemon Meringue. Their Raspberry Rhubarb competes strongly with my mom's homemade. Much better than grocery store bought this will be worth every trip you make. I love to support small businesses, but this bakery really falls short for me. Tried on two occasions ordering an apple & pumpkin pie, both times the pies were average at best. Filling for the apple was surprisingly similar Publix style apple pie filling. The pumpkin pie was also very average tasting Nothing homemade or local from this bakery. I thought for the lines I see from time to time that the pies would be amazing. But not the case If someone can recommend a good pie please , let me know. Sorry for the honesty . read more

Wow. A $17.00 cherry pie needs to be better than this. 1. Crust was greasy and left a film in my mouth that tweaked me out. It smelled bad too, like lard. My fingers were greasy after I examined the crust and I can't get the stinky lard smell off my hands. 2. Cherries were odd. It seamed like they used a yucky cherry pie filling from a can. I normally enjoy a pie from Upper Crust however ordered a mixed berry pie for Easter Sunday dessert and when we cut into the pie it was peach. Thank goodness no one was allergic to peach! The sad part of the story is when I called the store to let them know of the mistake the woman who answered the phone was abrupt an unapologetic.. she simply said oh well human error and I could bring back the pie for mixed berry. What am I to do with a pie today? Wow terrible customer service. Was I to return with a partially eaten pie? No so sorry or anything close to apologizing. And the peach wasn't that good either. I don't understand poor customer service. I was left speechless after the conversation needless to say I will no longer be a customer nor will my family or friends. read more
