Has it been vacuumed in the last 10 years? Who cares? Does he have the best collection of vintage rock, heavy metal, and country in Des Moines? Absolutely. The owner is quiet and leaves you be. The music he plays is low-key and innocuous, alienating no one. His prices are just right: $30-50 bucks for most original pressings in good shape, and very rare ones are $100ish. If he charged less there'd be nothing to look at here. It's like a great guitar shop - you go there partially just to look at all the cool stuff. The new vinyl record stores are fake -everything they carry is was made from a digital master; just a vinyl version of a CD. All the other old record shops have a lousy collection and completely arbitrary prices. This place is totally legit.

He know's what it's worth. But with that comes a knowledge of whats great to stock and he always have killer new records coming in.. He will also cut you a deal if you are going to purchase 4-5 records at a time. Red Rooster does not really stock new releases or local stuff, so if your looking for the new Arcade Fire LP this is not your stop, but if your looking for that rare Zappa record to fill up your collection this might be your best stop in town.

They had a very large selection of 70s and 80s music. I was shocked that they did not have a David Bowie section. They had a great selection of folks from the Des Moines area such as really rare slipknot albums. It's a pretty compact area. I did find Viagra boys which I did not expect I would ever find in a location.

There is a bit of everything here. The prices are wide range depending on what you are looking for. I know this is not the only location around, but this is the Ankeny location. There is a ton in here. I haven't looked at everything in this store but some things are comic books, board games, action figures, vinyl, toys, game system accessories. I was there to see if they wanted purchase something from me. They have a space in the back where they will take and see if they will buy off you. They offer cash and store credit. They entire store has a great vibe. Even though I didn't purchase something this time I left with a smile on my face and knowledge that I would be back.

There's an abundance of seating in the back for gamers to get together and there's even a separate LEGO room. They also have movies, comic books, funko pops, and so much more! It's honestly nerd heaven and I'm a big fan. The employees are kind and helpful, the store is laid out nicely, and it's overall a great place to experience and explore.

I came by there and I was waiting in line at the cash register and I was looking at the different…read morekind of alcohols and energy pills they have and stuff and there was one pill on it that said showed a man and a woman laying a man standing up in a woman laying on the ground and the pill said something about f****** her and then kill her and so I picked it up and looked at it it's some kind of a one of those pills that make you go longer in bed or something but I just you know a family Mart like that kids come in and out sometimes I just think it's really inappropriate and I pointed it out to the guy that could barely speak English and he kind of looked at me like it's none of my business but also I live in the neighborhood and the grass is knee high they always kept their grass clipped up nice and clean in the parking lot clean now it's starting to get kind of trashy like I said I was thinking about going over and mowing it used to be a friendly neighbor but you know what the guy's in business he's got a reputation to keep up and and you know some have some kind of a you know first impressions mean a lot and well that's my first impression of the new management anybody got a lawn mower maybe that maybe you want to go over and more but I sure the hell ain't yes not the same music station it used to be not at all I wouldn't recommend it to nobody and I'll quit going there I'm going to Casey's general store a block farther up the road from now on I could have took a photo but you can drive by there and take a look for yourself I didn't want to waste the time getting that close I won't even drive by there anymore I'm I mean I live just down the street but I don't need to drive by there anymore I can go up to Casey's general store now that I can recommend I'll give Casey's five stars out of five the new guy buys the business and now it looks like he never had it or lived in such a nice neighborhood I guess he's not accustomed to neighbors being neighborly and taking care of their own keeping their yard up so that the neighborhood looks nice yeah I can imagine some people just don't know when they got it good I don't recommend this place at all okay I got to go I'm on my way over to the Casey's general store on Hudson and 1st Street.​​
