There is a bit of everything here. The prices are wide range depending on what you are looking for. I know this is not the only location around, but this is the Ankeny location. There is a ton in here. I haven't looked at everything in this store but some things are comic books, board games, action figures, vinyl, toys, game system accessories. I was there to see if they wanted purchase something from me. They have a space in the back where they will take and see if they will buy off you. They offer cash and store credit. I freakin love this shop. It has everything a dreamer may want or need from figurines to video games to squishmallows and LEGO. There's an abundance of seating in the back for gamers to get together and there's even a separate LEGO room. They also have movies, comic books, funko pops, and so much more! It's honestly nerd heaven and I'm a big fan. The employees are kind and helpful, the store is laid out nicely, and it's overall a great place to experience and explore. read more

So much cleaner and organized than the south side one, and the one in Ankeny is even better. Really friendly and knowledge staff at the two as well. I had only been to the southside one till today as its the closet but man i may not go back to it as these were a cutt above and 100 times better as far as staff, selection, price, and overall cleaniness. Jays is one of kind and awesome as long as ur not selling to them as i understand from the comments but thats there business buy really low and sell high. So as long as u know that and not expecting retail for ur items cause thats there business and wouldnt b around much if they didnt. read more

I have been a Jay's customer at this location (they have at least three across the Des Moines metro) since they moved in a few years ago. Jay's is a one-stop-shop for collectors. New and used vinyl, used CDs, toys (Nerf, Lego, action figures), model kits, table top games, video games, comic books, statues, used video and more can be found here, along with the items to help you preserve and store your collectibles. Unusual, but welcome, is their frisbee golf discs, bags, and practice holes. Things to know: * Easy access location right off of 235 and 22nd Street in West Des Moines. * Jay's has a good used video return policy, providing several days to play your new disk to check for damage. * You can set up pull services for your favorite comics, etc. * Jay's has a few seasonal sales each year, and participates in Free Comic Book Day, so it is worth keeping up on what is happening. read more

This is the smaller of the two locations I visited, but frankly, I don't know how you'd do this kind of thing any better...no, scratch that, I do and that would be to take the name "CDs," as in presumably compact discs, out of the title. While this one had maybe double the amount of CDs as the other store, it made up maybe a solid 1/10 of the floor space...yet is the first name in the title...maybe they're saving up the name change for if sales ever taper, but I doubt they will need to worry about that anytime soon. Both stores were quite busy and I think both had signs up wanting staff, so if you're in the area and need a fun gig (where you might also get first dibs on cool stuff), maybe wander on over. There is all kinds of stuff here, hobby stuff, natch, but also many, many action figures, statues, toys, vinyl, comic books, and board games. While store that primarily deal in used stuff will suffer from the inventory whims, I will say that you could plant either location in damn near any city I've been to and it would instantly be in the running as the best toy store, if not the clear winner outright. I love Jay's. This store is very welcoming and you really never know what you'll find here. I enjoy there large selection of video games. They are reasonable when it comes to asking for a different price if you truly think it's worth way different. They are so reasonable on price here that things move rather quickly from the shelves. So if you want it you better grab it before it's gone. They carry pops, cards, games, vinyls, dvd, blue ray, figures, statues, dice, gundam, and legos. They even have squishmellows. I can spend a good hour in this store and I have multiple times. It's hard to walk out without buying something. read more

I discovered Jay's yesterday and left with a big bag of goodies and a smile on my face. I limited my shopping to the music and movie section, so I can't properly review the games, comics, etc. Their buy 3, get the 4th free policy sucked me in. I left with 3 free CDs and 1 free DVD. (Do the math and you will see I walked out with lots of new to me stuff) read more

I love how all the staff were wearing masks. I love the selection. I have always gone to the one on SE 14th st. This is the 2nd time I have been to this store and it is so much better than the other store. The staff is nicer. There is a better selection to choose from. Jay's is a solid stop if you're searching for anything hobby related -- be it action figures, comic books, vinyl records, or board games. I enjoy scouring their used CD and Blu-ray sections on each visit. The staff is incredibly nice, helpful, and it seems as though special orders are easy. My only mistake is stopping in when I do not have enough time to truly browse -- there's so much of the store I have not even checked out -- like the comics and board games -- but my wallet is thankful. They have new interesting items come in everyday. I especially like this particular store branch because they have lego parts and pieces that I want/need. Also, they have a wide variety of movies, DVDs, CDs, games, and other toys and comics. I recommend this place if anybody needs lego pieces for a particular lego project read more

Jay's CD and Hobby is like a wonderland of fun! Everything from dvd's, to records, to comics, to books, to magazines, but most importantly one of the best selections of Star Wars toys I have ever seen! The record collection here is top notch they carry used and new vinyl and I got to say, I love that they carry the classics and great reissues now one else in town would carry like the massive CCR Vinyl Box set. They also have Record store Day releases, long after record store day which makes me think, people are just un aware of the new vinyl they have here! There loss! Staff is always super nice and I Love looking through the old toys, like baseball Starting Line Ups I used to have or old Star Wars Toys I should have kept better care of! This is my #1 stop in Valley West mall for sure! read more

Jays is one of my go to stores for older games. It is a really cool store, and they usually have what I want for the games. Even if I don't buy anything, just looking at the funko pops and the marvel/dc statues are really cool. No complaints about the employees, they are always nice and helpful. This is a gamer and geek wonderland all in the best way! I am very impressed at their selection of collectables both vintage and new, FUNKO figures, and games. Very nostalgic to see lots of the toys I played with when I was a kid now collectors items. They have a small selection of PS4 games which was disappointing, and I was really excited to see online that they carried N64 games, unfortunately they were mostly old madden games or really expensive. They have a good selection of game consoles including old ATARI sets, as well as a nice selection of movies and CD's. Some of their prices are a little high but they have a good selection and most is very competitive! I just wish I would have kept some of my old games and action figures. read more

It's a neat store with a lot of cool stuff, but the employees have no customer service skills. I had what I felt was a valid complaint, and the cashier rolled her eyes at me, got a manager and the manager basically did nothing. This is a neat store. Very big and lots of different kinds of items! I used to work in a record store and I appreciate having the option to still go buy used cd's and dvd's. The prices are also very reasonable! They also have a huge selection of different kind of hobby ralated items. I stop in when I'm at Valley West Mall because I like looking at what they have. They usually have a great selection of items. I've found many comics and records there that I've had issues finding in other places. My issue is the customer service and the employees that work there. While I have had great customer service, I've also had absolutely horrible service. Many times I've stood at the front counter while one person checks out a customer and two other people sit behind the counter and talk, while ignoring everyone else around them. Or I can hear them talking about customers from across the store. I want to love the store, but the customer service is what keeps me from going out of my way to visiting the store more often. read more
