They have a nice selection of gaming items on their shelves, but if you have something you want that they don't have, they'll immediately order it for you, have it in stock quickly, and communicate with you the whole way through. I met owner Andrew Freeman on my initial visit, and he has a passion for card collecting. I'm a gaming and video novice, so I will focus on what I know: the baseball world. The store had numerous gaming customers who appeared happy with his selection, but it's a foreign environment to this baseball dude. There is plenty of parking, and it is easily reached from DSM metro, Ames, and Ankeny. Cool space, areas to get comfy and browse various elements. Open Tuesday through Sunday. I enjoyed browsing some of his better cards, as Freeman has a good eye for talent and ratings. It's not easy to find a Gretzky, Jordan, Aaron, or Griffey Jr card in this area, and he plenty of them, including a lot of $1 cards that brought smiles to my face. I bought a few of my baseball buddies' early cards for fun. I look forward to seeing this store's trajectory, as I like the overall store vibe, and Freeman's card passion was evident.

Has it been vacuumed in the last 10 years? Who cares? Does he have the best collection of vintage rock, heavy metal, and country in Des Moines? Absolutely. The owner is quiet and leaves you be. The music he plays is low-key and innocuous, alienating no one. His prices are just right: $30-50 bucks for most original pressings in good shape, and very rare ones are $100ish. If he charged less there'd be nothing to look at here. It's like a great guitar shop - you go there partially just to look at all the cool stuff. The new vinyl record stores are fake -everything they carry is was made from a digital master; just a vinyl version of a CD. All the other old record shops have a lousy collection and completely arbitrary prices. This place is totally legit.

He know's what it's worth. But with that comes a knowledge of whats great to stock and he always have killer new records coming in.. He will also cut you a deal if you are going to purchase 4-5 records at a time. Red Rooster does not really stock new releases or local stuff, so if your looking for the new Arcade Fire LP this is not your stop, but if your looking for that rare Zappa record to fill up your collection this might be your best stop in town.

The owner has expanded and this location holds all types of wonderful items from artists from across the country. The selection is not overwhelming but gives you plenty to look through. I will probably be back for Lego earrings or hope someone I know sees this and knows that I like them. Wink wink. I really love the IOWA love this owner has as do the many artists displayed there. I really fell for the prints that were being displayed and some of the IOWA jewelry up to purchase. Lots of unique gifts for someone who has everything. Right in the new building by RayGuns new location, this store is a beautiful addition to our Des Moines east side.
