Very nice store in a great location. There wasn't anyone to show us how an ulu is made, but there were plenty to choose from, as well as other beautifully made items.

I stopped in the factory after viewing the Fur Rondy snow sculpture competition. After a week and a half in Anchorage I had already decided that Ulus are kind of silly. To me the shape lends it self to skinning wild game and dicing herbs. I don't do either as much as I would like. The fact that Ulus are everywhere caused me to survey some Anchorage residents. The owners of the B&B where I was staying do not own an Ulu and they do not know anyone who uses them. Two women I was volunteering with at Iditarod headquarters use them. One of the woman loves her's and said all of her friends use them. I didn't go in because I wanted an Ulu, I went in because I didn't think my Anchorage experience would be complete without going in. Since it was Saturday afternoon the place was pretty crowded. One employee was demonstrating how to use an Ulu with a wooden bowl. He said by turning the bowl while you chop you don't have to pay attention to what you are doing. Let's all buy big scary round knives and use them blindfolded! I didn't buy an Ulu, but I was very pleased to see they carried the full range of Rondy pins. Fur Rondy was almost over and the official store was out of antler pins. I picked up one up with the Rondy collectible spoon. This was my first collectible spoon. I am officially an old lady.

    The only historical display.

Very good customer service. Even though we were mainly browsing, staff gave us great local restaurant and activity ideas.

Friendly staff and great shop. They personalize the knives for you, and their prices are reasonable. A nice place to stop for souvenirs.

It's a great place to find a real Ulu. Other places have the cheap knockoffs. These are the real deal. Love this place.

The employees are very friendly and always gracious to answer questions and provide customer service whether it be in the green house or anywhere else. The offer a mixture of classes throughout the spring and into the fall that are very helpful for learning how to succeed in Alaska's challenging growing climate. I enjoy the mixture of perennials, annuals, herbs, shrubs, roses, etc that they offer in the late spring/early summer. It is really cool that they offer so many plants that will succeed here in Alaska. I most like how you really get your moneys work at AK Mill & Feed because of their rewards system, I spend a ridiculous amount of money there in the summer and am always happy to hear that I have money on my account to add towards my total, it's things like this that make this Alaskan business worthy of 5 stars.

Rethink Home is a family-owned business located on W. Fireweed across from the VFW Post between Arctic and Spenard. The display floor is filled with an interesting mix of antique furniture, novelty items like 80's icon shirt button pins (Pac-Man, Mr. T, Galaga, Max Headroom, He-Man, and Q-Bert among others), a large detailed oil-style painting of Audrey Hepburn from the movie Breakfast at Tiffany's displayed on the rear wall in the back room, Alaskan memorabilia, and crafts from local artists. Like all of my other reviews on antique stores, my main focus is the vinyl they have in wooden crates set up by the front register. The collection here is relatively small and like the secondhand thrift stores, they will arrive randomly without notice. There was an array of albums from the 40's and 50's up to the more modern artists from the 70's and 80's. I saw a few that caught my attention but unfortunately had to pass on because of the condition of some of the records. Some jazz albums I considered buying had visible surface scratches and split seams on either the top or bottom of the album covers. At $5 to $8 on some of these, these were priced relatively high by their condition alone. However, they did have a separate crate of records that were marked down to $2 or 50% from their original selling price, but again the condition was a concern. The nearby secondhand thrift stores had vinyl in better shape at only $1 apiece or .60 at the lowest with minimal surface scratches or fully intact album covers with the original inner sleeve available. However, the people running this store are very friendly and this place is a good option for anyone looking to purchase some paintings or a detailed wood-carved piece of vintage furniture.

From the office team to the crews, it's all about the customer and performing to the customer's expectations. During this year's snowstorms, there was constant email communication letting customers know what to expect and when (their plow crews were working around the clock). Jacob (the principal), is customer focused to the extreme. He has continuously solicited feedback and, when we've had some minor issues, resolves them right away. Today was a perfect example. I called the office to have them come out and "widen" the driveway a bit (snow mounds were encroaching just a bit onto the driveway). I was very clear -- this was not an urgent request, it was just tidying up the driveway a bit. Less than 20 minutes later there was a plow in the driveway taking care of the matter! We wholeheartedly recommend Be Happy for yard care needs or snow removal!

Review #11 for 2026…read more Our group went on this tour while on our Alaskan Adventure. It is a one hour tour that starts at the Anchorage Visitor Center. We arrived early to explore a bit of downtown beforehand. Booking was super easy. I called to book and they were super easy about the booking and payment, telling me I could either pay at check-in or use the emailed link and pay ahead of time. It is normally $25 a person for the one hour tour. We had used the Alaska TourSaver book and there was a coupon inside for BOGO free tours! There is a max of 2 coupons allowed per tour according to the coupon, so book ASAP if you are using the coupon. We had 2 coupon books for our group of 4 adults and were able to use both! Our 14 month old baby at the time was also free. So the tour was super cheap! There is free parking around downtown, but as with anywhere you go, make sure you read the signs to make sure. There is NO bathroom at the visitor center or on the bus, so allow yourself enough time to go to the bathroom first!! We had to walk to a nearby hotel to use the bathroom before going on the tour. This tour was short, so there were no hop-on, hop-off photo stops. However, the tour was informative and we all enjoyed learning about the city. My baby boy seemed to also really enjoy the tour. The bus was not full, so we were able to spread out. We also get a reindeer hotdog from the stand right by the bus and it was a great idea because it kept our toddler busy munching while enjoying his tour! They do allow food and drinks. Just be mindful and take your trash with you and keep the bus clean. They also have a place to store strollers while on the tour if you had on like we did. Would I come back? I think this is more of one of those things you do when you are in town for the first time. It is not really a tour you go on each time you are in town. However, I would not mind checking out the other longer tours. If you do travel to Anchorage, check out this tour!! It's affordable, even without the coupon and is a good intro into the town and history.
