By no means do they have the inventory of the big box stores, but they have a good selection. They pack everything they can into the store and even added space on the front patio. Many times, we stop in for shear pins for the snow blower, a can of spray paint or other tidbits of hardware needed for a project. I've found that during the summer months, they really kick up the BBQ/Smoking supplies, which is nice too. I think if you aren't acknowledged in the store, it's a pure fluke because we are always and I mean ALWAYS acknowledged!! We are greeted when we walk in and every time I wander around aimlessly to check things out, I'm asked if I need any help. Yesterday in fact, both young men at the counter walked my husband to the item he was looking for and when I started looking at seasonal items, I was approached by another gal. End of season items go on close out and they seem to get more and more little items added to their inventory all the time. Prices are a bit higher than box stores for the most part, but rarely enough to justify a trip to town.

This review is for the Dimond location but involves Old Seward. :-)…read more Shout out the customer service at the AIH Old Seward Location. I went in looking for a part for a STIHL Product and spoke with a gentleman at the counter who I believe was named Zeph. While the location didn't have the product, he directed me to the diamond location, which he was able to tell me had the correct part I needed. I go over to the diamond location and I speak with William at the counter who asks me for the part number of the product. I tell him what the product is and I show him on the STIHL Website, and he replies with " Sir, there's no way I can find your product if you don't know the part number" I show him the one given to me on the website, and he says "that doesn't help me". Respectfully, I offer to call the old Seward location to speak with the gentleman who directed me to the diamond location and see if he could tell me the part number. Immediately, Zeph picks up the phone and I explain the situation. I tell him that Wilson can't find the product without knowing the part number. Zeff replies with "Na, He's just being lazy. He can find the product." Zeph from Old Seward then gives me the part number, and I share it with William to help me find the product. Shout out again for the customer service at the old Seward location coming in handy, even at the diamond location. Ha ha. I would encourage the diamond location to be a little bit more familiar with the product so that they're able to help customers who come in, not knowing the part number. I understand how the part identification system works, but it did feel like William was honestly just annoyed to serve a customer, and I did kindly express how I desired to give him my business and wanted to help serve him by helping him find the product, but simply didn't know the part number. All around I'm always very grateful for AIH and their good service. :-)

The Nordic Home is midcentury modern, Dwell magazine, Scandinavian cool. Also, I was happily surprised to learn that they turn over their selections fairly quickly--so, I'm now going to make more of an effort to stop by if I'm passing the shop. Their staff is helpful and knowledgable. They care about their customers not just for the 'today sale', but for the long haul relationship. Products: Awesome! Customer Care: Excellent! JJ's is that place for me but, having now been multiple times in the last month, I've decided they're too great not to give a shoot out to on Yelp. The selection and quality of the furniture is much better than I've seen elsewhere in town (and my friends' dragged me to every used furniture store in town!). They constantly get new inventory (multiple times a week) and the variety is great: modern, traditional, antique. The furniture is also well-cared for. No tears, gross stains, saggy couches, faded or worn fabric. Some of the wood pieces have scratches but that's what you get when buying used. I think the prices are reasonable for the quality of furniture you get (in the $150-350 range for large pieces like couches, bed frames, dressers; in the $45-100+ range for smaller pieces like side tables, coffee tables, and bookshelves), especially in AK. They post new items on FB regularly, usually with the price, so you get to see a lot of what they get in without even having to go to the store. They are very response to FB messenger communications as well. They will hold items for you for days (in case you fall in love with something but need to come back with a bigger vehicle). They will load the furniture into your car for you. They will also deliver in town for a small fee (I believe like $30), though they only deliver to your door, they don't carry the stuff inside. They will also show you how to put bed frames or any other dismantled furniture together, check that all the hardware is there, and even offer to loan you the right tools if you don't already have them. The guy here is SO nice. It's like buying furniture from a friend. But like a friend who has good taste in furniture and takes really good care of it. It smells incredibly inviting and sweet I tried to put my nose on which scent I was picking up in hopes it was one priced for sale somewhere. The style inside is ever changing, and expertly fixed with care and an eye for arrangement. I will say, this store is by no means cheap. Much of what's inside is made locally in Alaska by artisans and artists, though there are some cute items that upon careful inspection are made in Indonesia so it feels bleh to buy marked up with artisan prices. This would be a great choice for visitors to our state looking for the perfect souvenir that isn't mass produced overseas.
