Wish this could be positive. We had very high hopes when going to Dr. Hyman's clinic. We honestly felt so blessed to discover they were located within the same state as us. However, our experience has ended on a negative note, after working with the clinic for seven months. The only way to summarize all our complaints into one is to say that the care my daughter received was not patient centered. The care is clinic centered. There's a lot of gatekeeping as far as access to the professionals. It takes days to weeks to get responses in the portal, which the clinic prefers you use as your primary means to communicate with the team. I will provide three more examples of how this clinic put what they wanted ahead of what my daughter needed. The first example was when the team initially decided that my daughter's issue was an eating disorder, not a medical issue. Her assigned doctor and team had decided this before even waiting for her lab results. And when they decided this, they had someone we had never spoken to before, Kelly, call us over the phone and tell us their opinion while my daughter )was sitting with me. they also said they need to pause her care because of this .It was not handled with any kind of care or compassion. however, when the lab results came back and showed that she was actually suffering from a medical condition, our main doctor said he understood why "someone" would've diagnosed her with an eating disorder even though she doesn't have one. however, that "Someone" was him. I also found after a discussion with Kelly that she had been led to believe before talking to us about the eating disorder that we had already been approached about it by the nutritionist and doctor. This was 100% untrue. When she contacted us to talk to us about it was the very first time either of us had heard about it. The second thing that happened that stands out, was when my daughter's doctor accused her of lying about what she was eating. When I actually confronted him on the phone about accusing her of lying, he then backpedal and called it "food amnesia". It's not that I don't believe food amnesia exists, but that's not what was happening here. My daughter lives with me, goes to school in our house, doesn't really go out socially because of her illness, and I'm telling you right now as someone who has a long history of battling these illnesses and who also has OCD, she does not lie about what she eats. And after he accused her of that, our trust in him pretty much went out the window. In the same conversation when I told him I wanted to talk more about the role her mental health was playing. he said he didn't want to. So I guess that means the doctor gets to only discuss his own agenda. The final thing that happened, was when we requested the Center to assign us a new doctor, because my daughter no longer trusted her current one. There was a lot of back-and-forth meetings and discussions and at the end of them all they made us stick with the same doctor. And as a social worker, as someone who works daily to advocate for my patients, I feel very strongly that the clinic did this for their own benefit and not for my daughters. if I had found out that any of my patients had a doctor that accused them of lying, I would've reported that Dr and denied him from providing future care for my patient. Not only did he insult her, but he didn't even reach out after our complaint to apologize. You know this was a 17 year old girl they were dealing with, not a 50-year-old woman. I could bite my tongue if I had to and try to move forward with trust, but I don't expect my daughter who's been through four years of these accusations to endure that. Anyone who's been suffering from her kind of conditions knows that you go through lots of traditional doctors before you find out functional medicine is the only hope. Those traditional doctors look at you and tell you there's nothing wrong. They make you doubt yourself enough. We didn't need the functional medicine doctor doing the same. I believe the only positive this place provided was that it ran a slew of tests that no other doctor prior had done. Those tests were helpful in getting us a diagnosis and providing us with some direction on next steps. I will also say that the dietitian, although she didn't really succeed in helping my daughter, at least tried and had a very good heart and was patient with all my daughter's questions and concerns. Meanwhile the doctor eventually told my daughter she just had to live with the situation and she would eventually grow out of it. "It's not gonna kill you." My daughter has done a ton and tons of research on her own and we know that's not true. We are now moving on and trying to find a different clinic that can truly help her. And we did spend a fortune getting care here, but we knew we would ahead of time. We just hoped that price tag would've produced better results. read more

The Ultra Wellness Canter gave me the health review and tune up that I needed. You can read about nutrition on your own, and you should, but reading alone will not work, because you need individual advice from an expert. What the UWC did for me was to fix my blood pressure and cholesterol without using any medications. Before the UWC, my regular annual check up doctor was ready to send me to the cardiologist to be put on statins and beta blockers. To prevent being put on prescriptions I contacted the UWC. I told the UWC what I needed. They said that I only need one of their dieticians for that. Thus the UWC charged me less than they would have charged for a doctor. That is professional integrity from the UWC. The dietician who I see at UWC is Lisa Dreher. At this point I go back every six months. When I go o the appointment now, first the nurse does an exam, and then the dietician uses the exam to discuss results and what to do next. It now is three years after starting with the UWC. My only other medical care is my regular annual check up in my city (not the UWC). My annual check up doctor tells me that I do not need any prescriptions. Thankfully, I still am prescription free. I do use the over the counter mineral supplements which they advised. As a plus, people who I know are impressed by the weight loss. You can't just go there and do nothing. You have to do what they tell you. You could not do better than the UWC. read more

I have called every phone number I could find for them and tried signing up on the email they sent me but I could not get through to anyone or no one ever answered my questions or return my calls extremely frustrating read more

GOING TO THE ULTRA WELLNESS WAS SO HORRIFIC I TRULY LEFT WITH WORSE PTSD THAN WHEN I ARRIVED!!!! When I walked through the doors of the Center my body was so broken down and desperate for help and answers, only to be greeted by the Center's "manager" who was this cold, disconnected woman, who ended up being extremely toxic. From beginning to end the entire process was blunder after blunder, and instead of owning up to their repeated mistakes the "manager" got defensive, rude and hostile. It was truly a nightmare! I visited the UltraWellness Center and travelled from NZ because I was a follower of Dr Hyman's work and was under the impression he and his colleagues at the UltraWellness Center were the #1 experts in the field of functional medicine. It was several years ago and I was pretty unwell then. I haven't written a review until now because it took me that long to get to the bottom of my health problems and I can now write a review with the benefit of hindsight. I was assigned to a doctor who did the interview and testing. She left halfway through the process and I was assigned to another doctor who seemed to remember nothing about me each time we spoke. The worst thing about the experience was that they gave me a large dose of mercury-chelating medication (DMPS) to test my mercury levels which triggered what I can only call an intense 5 day "trip". It was one of the most unpleasant and frightening experiences of my life, with both physical and psychological symptoms I had not had before. I am guessing the drug mobilised a lot of stored mercury...more than my body could deal with (I had acute mercury poisoning symptoms). I could hardly sleep during this time. I was so frightened I called a doctor once I got to Boston who came to examine me. He asked to see the documentation for the testing I did with the UltraWellness Center and told me that I was significantly overcharged for it. He thought I'd been scammed. It took me a few weeks to recover physically from that experience. The clinic didn't get to the root cause of my health problems. They told me I had high mercury in my body but because I'd reacted badly to the DMPS medication they used to test me, they wouldn't go near the mercury or help me with it. They didn't even want to discuss how I might detox it over time using another method. I felt like they washed their hands of the problem. They seemed to think that because I couldn't take the mercury detox drug DMPS, I was all out of options. Knowing what I know now about detox, this approach was downright negligent. What I discovered later was that I was in the prodromal stages of an autoimmune disease (if they had tested my ANA at that time they might have had an inkling.) I also had SIBO which they didn't manage to identify despite the obvious symptoms, and I had a sulphur intolerance & nutrient deficiencies which were driving it. (The sulphur problem was caused by genetic polymorphisms.) They did uncover 1 of the deficiencies (but not the other) & they didn't make the connection to the sulphur. They didn't even identify the sulphur allergy despite there being many obvious clues in the labwork. The sulphur problem meant I wasn't detoxifying sulfites & all detox was impaired (hence the high mercury). This had been going on for years & my body was breaking down. What I needed at that point was for someone to connect the dots (because there were obvious dots to connect) & advise me on detox, rather than shut me down when I asked "what do I do about the high mercury?" Instead they prescribed a high sulphur diet with an emphasis on lots of sulphur-containing foods (onions, cruciferous veg, meat) which made my symptoms much worse. They told me I needed these foods for detox. My health declined further from there & I became ill with lupus. (I later learned that sulphur toxicity is a driver of lupus.) These people were not health detectives. They seemed very much out of their depth. I paid $25k + to be told to eat better & reduce my stress, (which I already knew to do and was doing.) After having spent most of my savings at this place, I couldn't afford to see another alternative doctor & had no choice but to read, study up and be my own health detective. It took me 2.5 years to return to health via various forms of detox, including long water fasting. (As an aside, I really wish I had tried water fasting in the first place.) During that period when I was very ill (& divested of my savings) I did feel angry when I thought about how much profit Dr Hyman made on those medical tests that his doctors didn't seem to know how to interpret. I had no idea there was such a large mark up on the lab tests until the Boston doctor explained it to me. (Being British, I assumed all medical testing in the US was that expensive.) There's nothing wrong with making a profit but in retrospect, the markups seem like a greedy trick to make money from the ill & desperate. And I do think Dr Hyman has the same issue as the pharma companies - financial conflicts of interest. I still believe in the principles of functional medicine. But I may as well have flushed the $25k down the toilet. If I had, I would have saved myself a traumatic experience & a worsening of illness. Suffice to say, I don't recommend the UltraWellness Center. read more

letter to Ultra Wellness Center: hello. I am a fan of Functional Medicine approach and the work of Mark Hyman and all of U at the Ultra Wellness Center. I applaud all of your work, the You Tube podcasts, the wonderful books, etc. Bravo! I recently called to find out about costs. I was shocked to hear of the high prices: $2,500 for first 2 visits; $800 each additional visit. There is no way I can afford to work with these fees. Here's my idea. I get the idea of charging high fee rates. What if there were 2 other models to go along with this? (1) low income clinic to help those in dire need of good Holistic health care, like the clinics in part of rural America, some offering free services to poorer folks in need (white, black, brown, native) (2) some kind of sliding scale clinic for middle income folks Keep the fees for folks that can pay that higher level. In the Mindfulness movement, particularly Jon Kabat-Zinn's Mindfulness Stress Based Stress Reduction programs, they have set up MBSR programs in prisons, low income Hispanic neighborhoods (esp. with tennage gang members) Why become identified with the 1% of the 1%, with the health crises afflicting this country?? The Ultra Wellness Center will become know as part of the elite health movement, not available to most people. not good...Your center could be a hub for reimagining both holistic health and health care as a right for all peoples, regardless of income. please consider...I'd be willing to help, in any way I can...to see Medicare for All, as well as 'Holistic Care for All'... curious what U and other think? we are at a Pivotal Moment in the Human and the American story...I hope we can all be part of the 'solution' and less part of the 'problem'...Blessings to U all and thank U for your important work... read more

A bunch of scam artists. They present tests that purport to tell you something real but don't actually tell you what specific effects/symptoms it will relieve. There is no clinical data or evidence to support their anaylsis or treatment, and the conflict of interest is huge - all their advice points you to extremely expensive tests and expensive supplements, which they sell. Their admin is atrocious - many mistakes, bad communication. The final straw was an overcharge for a consultation I cancelled, which they said they would refund - and then cancelled the refund! If you have $15,000 to gamble on the CHANCE of improved health, then UltraWellness is the place for you. The fees for the initial visit, including lab work, will likely cost between $6,000 and $7,000. Then there are charges for high-priced supplements, follow-up phone calls, and additional labs. I saved money for years to go to UltraWellness, having been a long-time follower of Dr. Hyman's work, in the hope of relief from chronic pain. Some people get dramatic results. I did not, although I carefully followed all instructions. I ended up at least $10,000 poorer (It would have been more if I had not stopped after 5 1/2 months) and in more pain than ever. But the worst part is the flawed communication system. If you do not have the $500 per hour charged for speaking with a physician by phone, you need to communicate concerns and questions with a patient care coordinator, who connects you to a nurse, which usually means getting her voice mail. Several days later, the nurse answers, frequently by email. If the instructions by email are not clear, you cannot reply because emails from patients are blocked. So you will need to start the process all over, and MAYBE you will get a clear answer to your question after one or more additional tries. It was frightening for me to be following a complicated protocol for heavy metal chelation without adequate support. I still believe in functional medicine, and continued my care with another physician who follows this approach, but not in the way that UltraWellness sells it. read more

Please, please do not make my mistake. I was a huge fan of Dr.Hyman's work, and trusted him entirely. I finally became a patient, only to find out that this is a scam on the sick and desperate. In the end I paid them over $15,000. I am more sick then when I started. I was carelessly prescribed supplements that negatively interacted with my current medications and caused serious harm. I also paid thousands for these supplements, that i purchased from them, and ultimately had to be thrown away. I couldn't agree more with a previous review that they are "a loose assortment of pretty average family practice doctors that happen to have embraced what they call functional medicine". It has also been my experience that "They gather a lot of data, but don't really seem to know what to do with it". So many tests, soooo much money, no answers. I have a rare skin condition call acute subcutaneous lupus. In essence I am allergic to the sun. I would have these break outs over my arms legs and face. The break outs honestly look like ringworm. Bright red circle with white rough skin in the middle. Was very itchy and horrendously disfiguring. Went to several dermatologists. The advice that was given cover up wear sunscreen and let me prescribe a steroid (of which I had limited success). So when that didn't work the dr prescribed a med that could possibly cause me to go blind. I went as far as to buy this drug but never took it. I though there has to be an alternative somewhere. So I started researching alternative medicine. I found my disease is caused by inflammation. Started reading about Dr Hyman and Dr Elizabeth Boham and the successes they had in helping people with inflammation problems. Now mind you I live in the Midwest and called several clinics here and even went to a clinic here in the Midwest. No success. I was desperate so decided to go to Lenox Mass to see if these Drs could help me. Omg! It truly was a miracle. These Drs know what they are doing. I went through extensive testing. They put me on an elimination diet. Which means no dairy, gluten, and sugar. I lost 30 lbs doing this diet. It was not hard at all. I was absolutely full of inflammation. Once we got my system back in balance, we started introducing dairy, gluten and sugar back into my diet. It was determined I have a gluten sensitivity! My skin is almost clear now since I have been following their diagnosis and prescribed diet. Granted I still wear sunscreen and no longer sunbathe but I have very few break outs now. I can actually go outside and not worry about breaking out. They truly got to the bottom of my problem. I have been given my life back!! Had it not been for the Drs and staff at The UltraWellness Center I'm not sure where I would be. I would recommend this clinic to anyone who has any type of health issue. They take the time no matter how long it takes to discuss, diagnose and provide treatment for each individual. In my opinion the best alternative medicine clinic available. read more
