Torphichen is a sleepy little village with no other action as far as eating out goes. The pub is the only game in town, and the only other commercial venture is the village shop and post office across the square, which is a good place to grab a snack and a coffee in the morning before the pub opens.
The Torphichen Inn has faced some hard times in recent years and has struggled to keep going at times, but they are really trying hard with their 'Scots Grill' restaurant and it's actually a pretty decent place to have lunch or an evening meal if you're in the area.
The service is attentive and friendly, and they pride themselves on using local ingredients so they know where everything has come from. The food is freshly prepared, so although it might take a while to arrive, you can be sure that it hasn't been sitting around for a while. We had the Cajun salmon with potatoes and fresh vegetables as a lunch, and although a fairly simple dish, it was wholesome, the fish was perfectly cooked, the veg were crunchy and the potatoes very flavoursome. Definitely a cut well above the average pub grub.
They can do catering for groups with a bit of advance notice and they have a huge function room through the back that would be great for a party or a medium-sized wedding. There is car parking at the rear, and what can loosely be described as a 'beer garden' at the front. No Wi-Fi though, which makes it difficult to check in on your visit! read more
