Counting House is a catch all place in Dundee, Scotland. By…read moreCatch-all, I mean great drinks, and prices, add good food and a solid atmosphere...this place works for me. Beers rotate through counting house quickly, which confirms a solid customer base, lots of drinkers = lots of new beers coming through. I tried beers from Germany,Russia, Pakistan, and Romania...all good, but the Oatmeal Stout wins top Honors...best beer I've had so far...but I'm still looking. The place has ample tables, and a variety of food choices. We've gone for the spicy prawns and Bangers and Mash. Prawns are good, spicy, and are an excellent starter. The Bangers and Mash are awesome, as a US person, the sausage have great flavor, the mash potatoes have a dry, sweet consistency, adding the green peas, and I've found my second favorite meal, behind the smoked Haddock...which was incredible. Try Counting House, you can go wrong...

We opened the door and suddenly all eyes were on us. Then came the behemoth task of finding a table (finding an empty chair was hard enough). Eventually a generous man, downed his pint of beer in one and gave us his table. Although this was not the best start, I was determined to enjoy the food. We all know what to expect from a Wetherspoons (I always appreciate the attention to detail for allergens and other dietary requirements). Throughout the meal, the regulars continued to glance at us, as well as other people walking in staring at us, in the hope that we'd finished eating and they could have our table. Very uncomfortable experience, so I'm hoping I never have to return.

Bridgeview Station has panoramic views over Tay estuary, which makes your dining experience romantic and soothing. Their fantastic reviews led me to dine here. I was not disappointed!!! All my offerings were excellent, from the food to the wine we enjoyed. The Shetland Salmon Fishcake with Beetroot, Fennel and Dill Salad was not fishy at all very fresh with a flaky texture. The beetroot and fennel was a good combination for this fishcake. The Ayrshire Lamb Rump with Pressed Lamb Belly, Kohlrabi and Samphire. For those of us that didn't know what Kohlrabi/Samphire are: Kohlrabi is in the family of the cabbage just with a round long stem and Samphire is a european pickled carrot. The lamb and lamb belly were excellent, no game in this dish. Just amazing tastes with a side of veggies. The Malbec we tried was amazing...One of the best ones I've had in awhile. Well balanced, not dry with Cherry, cocoa notes...yumm! Will definitely come back when I'm back in Scotland.
